    The absolute best whisky with sherry maturation in terms of price and quality. Period. The Tamdhu style is beautifully harmonious with the sherry casks. I completely agree that I would pick this over Glendronach, Macallan and Dalmore. I am thrilled that it is available in PA state stores for about 105$. Amazing price for the quality. I bought a second bottle as soon as I tasted this one last year. Apparently they launched this as their "annual limited edition" release. I really hope they add this to their core range.
    Its 8.30am and I am tempted to pour myself a dram as I work from home today. I might, its Friday. This one is a sheer delight. The nose is complex but approachable. Sweet and spicy. Decadent mouthfeel, burst of dry fruits, berries, red pitted fruits, toffee and jam, delectable oak spices, clove, anise and brewed tea. Where it is exceptional, is not in its inherent complexity. But the way it arrives, develops and evolves. It is rare to find a whisky that finds that symphony of flavor notes. What a dram!
    The only other 15 that I love as much would be the Springbank 15 and Glenscotia 15, although neither are sherried finishes. I recommend those two for your review as well. Whisky snobs might turn up their noses when I say it (and I know I am not alone), but Tamdhu 15 is better than most Macallans, even in their halcyon days.
    It would be interesting to see them try out wine finishes. I am not sure whether their distillate would be ideal for a spirit based bottling. But definitely wine finishes. But, their sherry finishes are so good, I would not be that disappointed if they stick to this quality forever (stay away Diageo). Cheers!

      I don't believe it's a finish, but I agree this is one of the best 15 year olds on the market. Personally, I like it more than Glen Scotia, although that is a damn good whisky at an affordable price. Have you tried the Balvenie 15 Single Barrel. One of the best sherried whiskies out there, regardless of age imo.
      Ah, so it's an “annual limited release.” I suppose that makes sense. Good to know it's being produced consistently, otherwise I'd have to stockpile a couple bottles myself!
      As I mentioned in the review, I doubt any other style of maturations would eclipse the quality of their sherried stuff, however I'd be curious to try Tamdhu in any other iteration just to satisfy my curiosity. Cheers!

      @@Gwhisky Yes, I should not say "sherry finish" here. Tamdhu is exclusively matured in Sherry casks. Haven't tried the Balvenie 15 single cask. Thank you for putting that on my radar.

    I identify as sherry-curious.
    It was the Glengoyne 12 that got me into whisky. The development and chocolate finish basically opened my mind to the possibility. As I explored young CS bourbon matured options last year I had in my mind that infamous unicorn KK8.
    My curiosity forced my hand to the Tamdhu batch 4, which I agree, is way more exciting than an aged 46% refined dram.
    I'm normally in the combination camp like an AnCnoc or the Glenallachie 12 or even the Aberlour Casg. Intellectually I want to enjoy the malt character but a good Sherry butt seems to increase the complexity more than a bourbon cask.
    Wish my job was to thread that needle between sulfur and over-sherried in the tun. But I'll be happy to enjoy this, the Balvenie 15, or maybe an old Revival.

    • @Gwhisky
      @Gwhisky  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I like a good sherry/bourbon.maturation myself. AnCnoc is fantastic. Been curious about that Aberlour Casg.
      Btw that Balvenie 15 is a total stunner, however it's very expensive here. A personal favourite of mine, though.

    Great review Jeff . I meant to comment earlier since I haven’t opened mine yet. I want to open it next month when I go on vacation. Take it with me. Glad you liked it. I have seen a white box, so maybe the blue box is the earlier version ? Kind of like the green and white laphroaig 18? I raised an eyebrow when you said this could be the new Glendronach 15 and Macallan at its finest. Wow.
    Anyhow happy to see more content from you.
    Stay safe. Watch out for the commies, and keep making these vids!

    • @Gwhisky
      @Gwhisky  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lol consider me on full alert.
      I think the white bottles are the older versions. A couple years back Tamdhu switched over from round white sleeves to the more decorative squared ones.
      Well, yeah, I'm really impressed with Tamdhu. I do think they're an up-and-comer. Of course even in its heydey, Glendronach was considerably cheaper than Tamdhu, so maybe not a fair comparison. But still, great quality sherried stuff coming out of Tamdhu.
      Really hope you enjoy your bottle and your vacation! Where to?

      I’m just going to the east side. Sanibel Island and Captiva. I like that side more. Less crowded than my side which has the Keys etc.

    Hi G ..agreed Tamdhu 15 cracking stuff great review as usual
    just bought and tried the “ Omar Sherry “ you recommended ..wow this is good stuff really nice and not crazy money .
    Talking of which , because I needed to try it to see / test for myself what it’s about ..just bought a bottle of Dalmore King Alexander 40% abv
    Oh dear not a smart a smart buy , especially when you’ve just tried the Tamdhu or the Omar 🙈..I should have known not high enough abv and IMO not worth money by a mile ..
    we live and learn .
    Keep the reviews coming
    Can I just check please ..Which is your favourite Aberlour ,long time since I tried anything from this distiller and keen to have a crack at it again , I know there was two you said were good but one you preferred ?

    • @Gwhisky
      @Gwhisky  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm glad you like the Omar. That's one that I think has very little visibility in the west but it's definitely a good dram!
      Sorry to hear you didn't like the Dalmore, though. I'll admit I've been curious about that one over the years. I've never tried even a sample. I've heard some pretty mixed things about it. You'd think that for that price Dalmore would at least ramp up the abv to 43% at the very minimum. Odd choice, but seemingly it's still popular. Anyway, yes we do live and learn. I've been burned several times buying overpriced bottles myself. Part of the process.
      As for Aberlour... I've stated that I like both Casg Annamh and the A'bunadh. I think they're quite different and it'll depend what you're looking for. The A'bunadh is big, sweet, loud, and satisfying. The Casg is calmer (although still very full-flavoured) and has a more spicy, tannic profile. I suspect it to be older than the A'bunadh as well. Personally I gravitate towards Casg.
      Hope that helps and thanks for watching! 🙂

    Hello Jeff, I bought a bottle of Tamdhu 15 after watching your video and I am not disappointed. Great product. You hit it right on the head! :-)

    Got my Tamdhu 15 this week... tried it a couple times. It's good and very sherry forward, and maybe I need more time with it, but it feels too dry and lacks sweetness. I didn't get any of the sweet notes on this one... maybe very hidden vanilla, but not marshmallows, no chocolate mousse, nothing. It is good, but maybe I was expecting something similar to GlenDronach 15 and it's definitely not. no sweetness at all in this sherry... maybe some air in the bottle will help? At this moment I'm not sure it's worth the upgrade from the 12 (which is also not sweet but less than half of the price).
    I'll of course give the bottle some time... it was an expensive one so definitely not a daily sipper (that's what the 12 is for).
