    Just picked up this one today (batch 5). Lord it’s good. I really like A´Bunadh, but this was just a step up in my book. My first Tamdhu, and it doesn’t disappoint 😊

    The part with the ABunadh/GlenDronach/Glenallachie comparison I found very helpful! In my opinion the ABunadh is getting less and less interesting in the new batches, Glenallachie never fully convinced me and the premium tag on Tamdhu made me uncertain, but your review just gave me a better idea about this expression, cheers 🥃

    One of my go to drams for winter after dinner its rich oily and the flavors are spot on for sherry lovers. I like to add water it tones down the spice a little and the abv. Tamdhu for the win for quality sherry casks.

      Agree. Definitely some good casks at work here.

    I can taste Pfeffernüsse on the finish (well it is Yuletide and I have German heritage), I think I prefer this over Aberlour A'bunadh, but I will still stock both.

    That Tamdhu comeback/rebrand is really taking shape since they moved away from the canned carton.

    Thanks for the review! I picked up a bottle of this yesterday to replace the Craigellachie 13 I just finished off but haven't cracked it open yet. The bottle I bought here in the USA does not say non-chilled filtered anywhere on the bottle but it does mention it on the box it came in. This is also a Batch 5 and cost $116. I'm looking forward to see how this compares to the cask strength Highland Park that is so, so rough until it is watered down a bunch. Cheers!

      Interesting side-by-side between two very different whiskies. I like the "sherry bomb" style of the Tamdhu, but I also like the ruggedness of the HP. Depends on the mood for me. Cheers!

    Love your reviews Geoff, not too long winded with plenty of good information, love the 12y as its accessible and priced fairly well in NZ.
    Think I'll get a batch strength and maybe blend with the 12 to see what happens.

    • @Gwhisky

      Thanks Rock, very kind of you to say! 🙏
      The batch strength stuff is also excellent. A side by side or even a blend of the two would be interesting! 🥃

    Love Tamdhu. Only tried the batch 3 among the cask strength bottles. For me, Tamdhu stands out for their quality. Much like Arran, all their whiskies are beautifully crafted. I have to find this one. Only the 12 and 15 are available around here.
    Tamdhu will soon out compete with Macallan in my opinion and I, for one is gunning for "the little dark hill" (what a beautiful name for a Speyside Distillery)

    • @Gwhisky
      @Gwhisky  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Big fan of them myself. Polished and elegant. I hope they don't learn too much from Macallan, though. The price of these CS releases has climbed quite substantially over the last couple years where I live.

    I’ve been drinking Tamdhu for years. I’ve finished 1, 2, 3 and 4. I bought 3 of each to hold. Surprisingly, IMO, 5 beats out all 4.

    Watching this is killing me! these are too expensive here in Brazil and I have a trip to the US scheduled for September... the anxiety is killing me! Hoping the prices don't suddenly shoot up even more. ordered the 12 to battle the anxiety. lol

    Hi Jeff
    I drank a tamdhu cask strength right alongside your review and I have the batch 4 57.5 abv and I have never had any other batches, I find myself loving this whiskey, I started with the 12year old tamdhu and it is just a warm up for me, I love this whiskey, I love your reviews and watch ⌚️ all of them, I have a bottle of the 15year old as well, and I will be trying it very soon, this bottle of cask strength cost me $95.00 dollars, and the 12year old was $75.00 dollars, I love the tamdhu house style for sure, cheers brother and keep the great reviews !!!

      Glad to hear you're a Tamdhu fan. Such an elegant house style. The Batch Strengths can vary, but the general quality is fantastic. The 12 is my go-to alternative to Macallan! Thanks for watching and for the kind words, Frankie! 🥃

    Tasted the 14 ambar version, real good. Only heard about this distillery 6 weeks ago. It noted indeed natural colour. Think I'm going to buy this batch 5

    G-reat vid : finally, batch 6 returns to Ontario for 130$CAD (batch 7 is already out in UK) . . . alongside certain well-known gent in the bothy, I will lean on your 90 score to get a case to hide away (like Brackla-12). . . retiring soon, thus one must future-proof a little u know. . . ((letter-pun intended, hehe))

      By the end of the bottle I'd probably leave it on an 88, but it's still absolutely delicious. I don't know about Canada, but these have shot up in price over the past year in my market, so it's probably a good call to buy them now!

    Thank you for the review! I love your reviews and liked every video that i clicked. But im struggling chosing between the Tamdhu 15 and Tamdhu batch Strength, which one would you recommend?

    • @Gwhisky
      @Gwhisky  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a tough call. I think the 15 is more refined, but the Batch Strength is more big and fun. Depends what you're looking for. Appreciate the likes! 🙏

  • @justincase5124
    @justincase5124 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Batch 4 needs the neck taken out and let it breath for at least a month. Then the spices subside and it gets really complex

    • @Gwhisky
      @Gwhisky  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's been true for most of the batch releases I've had. The 2 in particular.

    • @justincase5124
      @justincase5124 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Gwhisky That's good to hear. Cos scotch for dummies kinda trashed the batch 4. One of them said something along the lines of "I don't want to struggle with it for a month or two and need an exact amount of water to make it enjoyable" Seriously?!?!
      If I went by that statement then I would have disregarded at least 30% of my whisky....
      Anyway, You have a great channel and your reviewing style is spot on.

    • @Gwhisky
      @Gwhisky  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@justincase5124 I can't speak for anyone else, but you'll notice that none of the bottles I review are freshly opened (and if they are, it's likely because I've had another opened recently).
      I'm not a fan of reviewing freshly-popped bottles or bottles that I haven't spent a few weeks or even months with before putting forward my opinion. I need to get to know a whisky before reviewing it. That's especially important as a sherry lover, because sherried whiskies often take more time to open up.
      Thanks for the kind words btw. Much appreciated!

    NAS? In New York I haven't seen any Tamdhu around. Would love to get in on the hype for batch 5 but if it's in the price range of integrity 18 year olds I don't know if I would pull the trigger.
    I'm enjoying the Balvenie 15 but I'm still not convinced on Full sherry bombs. I crave the malty distillery character shining thru. Haven't actually tried an ABunadh or cracked my 15 Revival yet but I can tell you that for $65 the Casg Annamh is a tremendously delicious dram for my taste.
    I am definitely expecting this Tamdhu to satisfy my sherry curiosity. But will I see a batch 4 or 5 Glenallachie first?

    • @Gwhisky
      @Gwhisky  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well sherry bombs aren't for everyone. I totally understand why you'd prioritize age. Revival is really nice stuff.
      Haven't had Casg Annamh yet, might try it out soon though. Between this and GlenAllachie 10 I prefer this, but only slightly. If it's much more expensive than the GA, it might not be totally worth the price hike. All of that depends of course on what's available in your area. I've heard bad things about the selection in NY.

    • @tjross1313
      @tjross1313 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I feel like the recent Abunadh are not really much to get that excited about. Get a sample from a friend before pulling the trigger. I haven't had any of these Tamdhu CS's but am a fan of their work and have a bunch of bottles from their standard range which I really like. Abunadh though, it was pretty disappointing to me...

    • @Gwhisky
      @Gwhisky  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tjross1313 I agree, these days most batches of A'bunadh that I've had are overhyped. I still enjoy them, but the older batches were much better, and I think there are some really good alternative sherry bombs out there that can outperform A'bunadh.

    What’s the age and why don’t they list it? Gotta be 15-18?

    • @Gwhisky
      @Gwhisky  ปีที่แล้ว

      There's likely some stock over 10 years old, but there's also likely stock younger than 10. The NAS Cask Strength release is very common in the industry. Often good, but I agree, it'd be nice to know the age. 🥃

  • @otron805
    @otron805 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    which is better tamdhu 15 or tamdhu batch strength ?

    • @Gwhisky
      @Gwhisky  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Depends what you're looking for. The CS is bigger and more "fun", while the 15 is calmer and more sophisticated. I might reach for either depending on my mood. But to avoid being too vague with my answer, I'll say that I personally prefer the 15. 🥃
