The Rise of the Far Right | The News Agents Investigates

  • The Far Right are growing in strength, power and number across Europe and beyond. In election after election extremist forces are becoming bigger and bigger players, destroying old more traditional conservative parties.
In this episode of The News Agents Investigates, Lewis heads to the Netherlands, where an old political face, Geert Wilders, could now be king of all he surveys. But Holland is just one story, a microcosm of one of the biggest political tales of our time- the slow collapse of the centre and the forces of moderation on the right of politics.
Online conspiracy, misinformation and the polarisation arising from the Gaza War is fuelling the fire. Liberal democracy could be burnt along with it.

It’s not a coincidence that all these liberal left leaning countries, I’m talking about the ones in Scandinavia in particular are suddenly becoming far-right. They are seeing their countries change within a few years, they are seeing urban rioting for the first time in their history (led by immigrants) they are scared to go to the shops at night for the first time in their life, this isn’t merely just a coincidence. If parts of the older generation who have always been predominantly left wing are suddenly turning right wing, I think you have a pretty clear problem. Don’t blame them, blame the people that have made their countries unrecognisable and unsafe.

We have a perfect storm brewing; both man made.
One - the global capitalist model has been hijacked by neo-liberalism and its race to the bottom which is driving down wages, widening the gap between rich and poor and turbo charging imported migrant labour. As consumers, we are part of the problem but this is the economic paradigm we find ourselves in.
Two - the climate crisis is already starting to displace populations in the Global South. This is going to get *much* worse as our biosphere heats up. There are going to be tens of millions of people on the move as we approach mid century. If you think things are bad now, you ain’t seen nothing yet!
There needs to be a new deal that prioritises people and planet before profit.
I rate the chances of this happening as being between nought and zero.
    Have a nice day 👋

The original "far right" were Socialists and Marxists, e.g. they were actually "very far left". What many are calling "far right" now is nothing like that, they are capitalists and want to protect their country from undemocratic and authoritarian outside influences, like the EU and Islamic law. It's very sad that some people do not understand that.

Heritage is what we value and cherish from our past. Our history. Traditions passed on to us by many generations of common ancestors.
