I grew up in post war Britain and only heard a German in war films and of course that wasn’t flattering.
Then I heard a nature documentary in German and though I couldn’t understand it, I found it extremely beautiful.
Similarly, on visiting, I found German people to be very charming. I love their perfectionism, everything is such nice quality, clean, neat and tidy.
Even the petrol station had a five star buffet 😂

Its paradoxical for the Green representative not realizing the amount of harm they´ve done to the nation. They JUST DONT SEE THAT. They are talking of having a blueprint for the society as a whole. And THAT might be the problem. Voters don't fall for that any longer

Why is it that popular opinions "must be countered" by all sorts of initiatives designed to control how people vote and what ideology they subscribe to?
How about simply addressing and dealing with some of the core issues and concerns that the far right, and by extension, a large amount of the population have been raising? If democracy is supposed to work, you can´t simply dismiss the opinion of 1/3 of the population, no matter how much you may personally disagree with it.

I am from Britain, and this 'plan' would work here too. Instead of calling Brexit voters (I wasn't one) racists, and bigots; how about addressing their concerns so they don't vote for populists and revolutionary referendums. This would require self-awareness, accountability, and political intelligence, traits that are not possessed by politicians in my country.
If you don't satisfy concerns of the ordinary, they will turn to parties that will.

That was in the 2000s. The far left peaked and are now in decline over the past few cycles. They were actually under surveillance just like the AfD is. The far left is also far weaker, they integrated themselves into the system and helped bring populist voters from East Germany into the fold rather than outright challenging the system.
They were tolerated at the state level as they just want more social programs and labour rights. Now the populists are still disatisfied and shifting to the AfD which is more of a threat and has far more extremist elements, Some of the AfD policies are far more challenging to the status quo.
Because they are, and never really were the problem, remember what happened in history, the xenophobic, the racist, the demagogues, they present a real danger to our freedoms, to our rights, to our prosperity and our security, they will ruin everything for everyone!

I think much of it is that the political programs of the established parties are aimed at urban population at the cost of rural populations.
It often feels like one is completely forgotten, or even vilified by many of the established parties. That sadly drives alot of voters to the Afd
I looked up an article about one of their strongholds. It's a small city of 15k. Their complaint is that infrastructure is bad. lol
They have areas in the east which have economically collapsed.
I tend to disagree, maybe the more liberal parties (SPD, FDP, Greens etc.), but a large part of the CDU/CSU's voting base Banks on the conservative rural populations as opposed to reactionary tendencies of the AfD.

The AfD has a much wider potential voter block in Germany, which may have sympathies with their far-right values, but for as long as liberalism and liberal democracy is associated with economic growth and prosperity, they will not vote AfD.... it is when there is a large and significant economic downturn, that's when there will be an increase in voters for the AfD. Things like the Ukrainian war, high energy prices, Brexit, etc... they all help the far right, as they are economically destructive. The far-right wishes to damage the voting public's association of economic prosperity with liberal democracy.

I'm a near centrist, and this mini document is awful. I'm not stating the AfD are the good guys being smeared here. First, education - for it's potential Germany has far to improve the educational level.

It's unfortunate that moderates don't speak up more about the core uniting principals of the nation and that extremes are growing due to a failure of the education system to make it clear why democracy and dialogue is so important.

@nwhite3080 they had many partners from eastern Europe, too many, and Italy (and it's catholic church), and japan that had a huge population boom at the time, Austria, and so many others, they weren't alone like what many propose
Theoretically, they had CDU (Angela Merkel's party) for years in power, and they are supposed to be center right. The problem is that on the left side you have greens, SPD, the left, the pirates, and so on. On the right you have CDU, and if you are right wing but don't like the CDU policies, the next biggest right party is AfD. You do also have FDP (free democratic party), but I am not sure how right wing they are (they have liberal/libertarian tendencies)
@@oshomroni CDU was centre right but they shifted too far to the centre. That ate up the SPD's support but opened up a vacuum on the right. That was ill advised since they could just enter a coalition with the SPD but now their combined vote share keeps declining and could soon not be enough even in a grand coalition.

Really good video about what people of Germany are feeling at different places, whats even more good people not giving up on their opinions and values. Did not hear how AFD people think about the problem, but i guess video portrays them as the problem. Germany is going through some tough times, these are times decide how the people want their future to be. This is not something new, hard time forces people to look for radical ideas which may be harmful to them in long term. But this is history , it keeps repeating
