Perfect timing on this video, Luke. It confirms a recent discussion with the PSO at where I bowl. He said with my switching to lefty, the IQ Tour and Hyroad would be the best foundation to add to my Hustle AU.
Yeah, they're just hard to beat, and that's why they're still there. IQ Tour everyone knows about, but people are still sleeping on the Hyroad Pearl for some reason
My favorite ball cracked on me. It was a Lane #1 Dynamo. I’m looking to replace it. The HyRoad and iQ tour look similar to its consistent arc on the backend.
Scratch the Hyroad off because it's not remotely similar in ball design, the Dynamo was more of a stronger symmetric solid, so while the IQ Tour will be similar from a shape perspective, what's more similar on paper is something like an Ebonite GB5, might take a look at that and see what you think.
I’m very happy that i have two marvels. I love both of them and i’m adding a hyroad to my arsenal. I have an astrophysix, pitch black, pin up marvel, pin down marvel, and soon a hyroad.
I know the vid is old… however u mentioned the !Q Tour being ur 3rd favorite ball on the left side. My question is what are ur top 2 balls on the left side? I’m a lefty is why I’m asking. Thx Luke as always keep up the good work
It’s funny that the hyroads ARE iq hybrid and pearl in 12 & 13 lbs. both have the same core as the iq. In fact all the symmetrical ball in 12 & 13 have the centrifugal core just different cover stocks, same RG and DIFF.
I watch your videos for an honest opinion not just you gotta have this in your bag. I’m 72 and broken and realized watching Angel gave me a better perspective of ball motion due to her lower speed and revs and I have improved greatly from it. Thanks to both of you.
I have a iq tour solid and love it.. I'm on my 2nd iq tour now.. I am thinking of buying a hyroad hybrid and worry there might be overlap.. the numbers between the two at 14# are close, is there much difference between the two? Thanks
The numbers are actually further off than they seem, the Hyroad is going to go a fair bit further down the lane and be sharper. They'll "hook" about the same amount but be a pretty big difference when it comes to shape.
Yo, sorry I missed this. Phaze V and Hyroad Pearl are fairly different, they do have the same cover of course, but the stronger core in the P5 makes a bigger difference than you'd expect.
There isn't a whole lot, not that isn't going to feel somewhat similar in strength anyway. A Hustle or Electrify is somewhat of a step down on paper, but it's not a big step down on cover and those cores are also both earlier than the Hyroad core. I wouldn't recommend dropping as far as a Tropical Surge or anything, but something like a Hustle USA once you got some games on it would at least be smoother. It's going to be stronger out of the box, but with some lane shine and like 20 games on it, then you'll have what you're after I think.
Great videos! Ty for your insight. I'm getting back in to league bowling and need to upgrade my equipment. I'm looking at purchasing the Hy Road. Can you give me a comparison between the Hy Road and my ball, Columbia Full Tilt 5.0? Ty
I am a full roller and I am thinking of getting the iq tour. I tend to see my bowling ball move at the worst times once the lanes transition. I have decent “hand” but it is frustrating to see my eternal cel get down the lane only to come up high once it hits the friction. I’m thinking even maybe throwing a pearl ball may help. Any advice and or recommendations would be appreciated. Great videos by the way👍🏾
These are all 4 or 5 balls, so the lower end. I'm not sure any of these go between the X2 and a RAP, maaaybe the IQ IF you kept surface on it, the RAP is a lot stronger than people realize
Love you vids. I recently switched to storm equipment. I have a Phaze 2, Phaze 3 and a rhino(close to the match up brb). I’m looking to fill the gap between the p3 and rhino. Would the emerald or hyroad be a good fit? Or would you recommend something else. Thanks. Keep up the great work.
I feel like I answered this already lol, sorry if I didn't! YT is weird with notifications. I'd go with the Hyroad probably, the Emerald would be a little too close to the P3 I think.
@@LukeRosdahl I have a Roto Grip spare ball drilled lefty now. I bowled one game and got 66. Switched back to right handed and did awesome. I will have to bowl a game left handed to start then switch.
I'd like to ask a question! I put a post up on the Storm and Roto buying selling page about the Storm Marvel S. I'd like to know just how similar is it to a Phaze 2 and the IQ Tour? I had someone on there tell me that it was essentially the Phaze 2 BEFORE the Phaze 2 came out. And that it was kind of a good mid way between both the PHZ2 and the IQ Tour except just a little less versatile. Could you give me a little bit of information about it? I know you did a video on the Marvel Pearl but not one for the Marvel S. Thanks :)
Yes, the Phaze 2 was kind of a replacement for it. The Marvel S shaped slightly different, but this is easily the closest you're going to get to it. I actually never had the S, that was a little before my time with Storm.
@@LukeRosdahl Ahh right I see! I saw that the S has the same core as the IQ Tour so I would have guessed it would have a very similar motion to that except stronger. But I'm glad its close to the Phaze 2 though! I really wanted one but they are really expensive over here because of how popular they are. The videos I've seen on it reminds me of the Crux prime with the heavy rolling chugging motion.
Luke I like playing straight up the boards and I’m considering both of these balls. Which one would work better on a typical house shot playing straight up the boards? My comfort zone is anything 3rd arrow and right of that area. I recently drilled up a phase 3 but it’s too strong for the house I bowl in to be comfortable using it.
I really don't know, it all depends on the lane surface and lane pattern and your game. Any ball on the market could do what you're asking depending on the variables, so it's quite a bit more complicated than this. Short pins for a house shot generally aren't a good idea, if that's something you have to do to make the ball reaction work, then something is wrong. Either you're using too strong of a ball, not playing the lanes right, or just need more practice to learn what's going on and what you need to do to adjust.
Luke Rosdahl my house has been putting down a shot that has been drying completely out by the 2nd game. I have equipment that is burning up and standing up. The deeper I get the weaker my game gets. I’ve tried urethane and it works great the only problem is I mess the lanes up for everyone else. I figured a weak short pin drilling would be good for that situation. Why don’t you agree with short pin on house shots? Mo pinel swears it’s better than urethane and the lane itself
@@petersavino3890 It depends on the purpose, urethane is a lot better for creating carrydown and hold on tougher patterns than reactive, but short pins can create a more resin shape that can help with carry. A weak short pin is just going to give you angle issues as it's going to be more responsive to dry boards while the layout is going to also make it weaker from deep. I don't know that you necessarily need a short pin, what are you using right now that's too strong?
Luke Rosdahl I took 10 years off Bowling and just got back into it 3 months ago. A friend gave me a vapor zone solid that wasn’t drilled and I purchased a phase 3 and a purple hammer urethane. The vapor zone is too strong and stands up while the phase 3 is great for the first game middle of the 2nd game tops. I don’t have the confidence to get in any deeper than 3rd arrow because my release varies from shot to shot due to timing issues. I’ve tried the purple hammer straight up the boards and it seems to work well but I’m causing problems for teammates while doing so. I’ve never drilled anything short pin before but I’ve seen mo pinel talk about it on a video and he says he’d go short pin reactive before using urethane.
Yes actually, the T is a little cleaner, slightly more defined, and more of an arc rather than the round climbing shape of the Pearl. They're identical in hook potential, but there are small shape differences. I kick 10s with the T that I ring or plack with the Pearl, but the Pearl also trips 4s that I leave with the T
Luke Rosdahl oh okay, I’m looking for a ball that I can use when the lanes are just trashed and I need length but my idol pearl just hooks too much.. would the hy-road pearl be a good option for that?
Luke Rosdahl okay thanks I’ve just been trying to decide if I wanted a hy-road pearl or something like a mvp for trashed so thanks that helped me decide
Craig Jones and his cousin Day-Day see you bowling next to the mini mall they're watching over. Day-Day offers you a Holey Moley donut in exchange for ball recommendations for him and Craig to use not only on the lanes but also to help get their stuff back from Santa Claus and impress Donna and Pinky. Do you eat the donut and what ball do you recommend to each of them?
Honorable mention to the Phaze 2, those 3 balls are Phenomenal!
Perfect timing on this video, Luke. It confirms a recent discussion with the PSO at where I bowl.

Yup. These 3 balls were the core of my lefty arsenal.
may I asked why you switch to left handed
I have been throwing the pearl for 4 years now. Still carrying low 190's t age 70!
Hyroad and Virtual Gravity changed the game. Every company, yes, EVERY COMPANY, has been playing catch up ball since.
EVERY ball manufacturer has a ball that CHANGES THE GAME!!!
It was the Virtual Energy for me, that ball was amazing
