In this video, Mark is talking about the different kinds of cartridge loops we manufacture, and our client's favourite the Signature 3D loops, and how they are manufactured.
He also explains how he builds these loops onto belts, holsters, staging strips etc in a way that they never expand and become too loose for your cartridges to the point that they fall out.

If I didn't know I would say that was a picture of my shop, love it. Keep up the good work.
Thanks, and thanks for watching @Oneil Long
As a new leather worker I really appreciate your videos. Thank you so much! Awesome work!
Thank you @Thomas Skehan for your kind words and for watching our videos
I just watched this video and I’m about to make my first ammo belt with holster. I love your style and I will do this with mine. Thanks
Awesome so great to hear @Chris Lettenmaier, thanks for watching and keep us posted how your project is going.
As a saddle maker, and I have made a few gun and holster sets for kids, I really like your work, I have subscribed as well 👍
Thank you David for your kind feedback, we really appreciate it, and thanks for subscribing.
Great video, thank you
Thanks so much for watching Jeff
love your belts! after years of hand me down leather equipment, I'm finding rivets an metal rusting out. even good metal, rusting too leather acids! I would like best rust proof metals used or no metal at all with leather rapes an knots!
Thanks for your kind words @Tim Barnett.
So yes the use of metal on leather will over time rust due to many reasons. I find that brass works not any better than steel rivets. I’ve found that stainless steel lasts a little longer. Keeping the leather clean, dry and storing it in dry warm place will help prevent it.
Sewing or lacing is the best but it takes longer to do, but be aware, lace can break down as well if the leather isn’t looked after.
Thanks. Very thoughtful.
On the pull through loops which are not sewn, do they stay? Do they just rely on the form to keep from loosening?
Seems with a few rounds out they could work. Or do you glue them?
Thanks,
Mark
Thanks for watching Mark, no the loops are not sewn or glued, they stay as they are. First off one has to make sure the leather is cut the right way so that it less likely stretches, then Mark uses the cartridges to form the loops and he says it needs just the right amount of tightness around it and lastly the loop-band is sewn at either end (not between the loops but at the end each end). We're making these loops like this for almost 20 years and they all stay even after all these years.
Thank you sir for sharing this video! Thanks to you I was able to very cleanly add loops to my pocket carry holster.
way to go @GrizzWorks and thanks for letting us know that our video was helpful
Very nice leather worck ,and I have been looquin for sambody that can make a similar stile gun holster and belt for a 92 fs beretta .
Thank you, and thank you for watching the video Gilberto
Excellent product design! I'm stealing it! Love your energy!
Thank you
Great show mate you've got some good ideas
Thank you Chris
Love from canada. I’m Indian. ⭐️👍🏼
Waving back at you @Jashan, we are in Canada too
how thick are the .22 lr straps that make the loops?
Thanks for watching @Malcolm Buehler, Mark uses 2/3 oz leather
Hey there! Awesome demo of these loops. How do you determine the spacing of the slots that the strips go through to form the loops? I want to make some loops to hold my .30-.30 cartridges but I’m still new to leather working. Thanks!
Thanks for watching Matt. We actually answered your question twice already here in the comments :-) to get the measurement you need to put all the cartridges next to each other and measure that distance. Then whatever material you are using you have to factor that thickness (x2) into it and add to your first measurement. This gives you the total width and now you can divide that width by the number of slots you need to make
@@Beavermountainworks Hey I really appreciate you replying to (at least) a two year old video! I apologize for not seeing your advice in previous comments, but thank you for clarifying! Hope you're staying healthy and happy this year. Take care!
@@mattfairfield9103 Hey Matt, no worries, and we try to answer every single question on our videos, no matter how old the video is. Hope you and your loved ones stay healthy too
Thanks a lot, super helpful!
Thank you Sam for your feedback!
What thickness/ounce leather do you use for the loops?
Hey Daniel, thanks for watching the video. We use an approx. 2 oz leather for the loops.
I would liked to see one for 12 gauge, that was my reason to watch this video. Maybe next time ?
thanks for watching chiya2006, yes maybe next time, it wouldn't be much different though
Thanks I know I was vague in my question. What I meant was how much longer is that 2 1/2" leather strip (the inside part) than the actual belt buckle to Belt hole? Hope this makes sense.
I don't know if we're on the same page or not but I was referring to the strap not the Billet part of the belt. How much longer is the strap cut then the actual waist size?
@@rogerd.hardin7156 Sorry Bugsy I missed your comment here. I will do a video in the next few weeks on how to measure a belt and add the tip and buckle ends in the sizing. Is this what your asking?
Stitched on loops are much better than having all those bag plugs cut out .
Thanks for watching @Infidel7153, what ever you prefer, some like white bread, others like brown bread
On your 22 lr loops, are you sewing in the loops or just using glue?
we don't use any glue at all, thanks for watching.
@@Beavermountainworks Weary Traveler, I realize I didn't completely answer your question. We punch out holes and weave it through just like the other cartridges.
My loop lace is 1/2" wide for 22lr
I want a chest rig x on chest and back looped that hooks up with a belt and the belt has hostler on each side
Hello Pio, please contact us at info@beavermountainworks.com to discuss your custom item and a quote. Thank you.
How do you get the measurement for the space between the slots?
Thanks for commenting Kyle and sorry we only see this now, two weeks after. So to get the measurement you need to put all the cartridges next to each other and measure that distance. Then whatever material you are using you have to factor that thickness (x2) into it and add to your first measurement. This gives you the total width and now you can divide that width by the number of slots you need to make.
can you make a long cartridge loop for 12 gauge shells??
yes, contact us at info@beavermountainworks.com to discuss your custom project
How far apart do you make the holes for a 357?
Let the cartridges tell you
Was the 3D design for cartridge loops used as far back as 1873?
The general technique was used back then but we did not research if the 3D design was used and have never claimed it was historically correct.
Thank you for that info! I am looking to make a traditional cartridge belt for use with an 1873 Winchester in 44-40 and a holster for an 1851 Colt Navy. Your craft methods are great. Many thanks!
Is it possible you can make one for a shotgun?
yes, it is Andrew, contact us at info@beavermoutnainworks.com for more info and pricing.
How do you size this style of gun belt?
Hey Roger, thanks for watching. We do waist size + 4 inches.
i need one for 500 smith that holds 12 rounds price please
Hey James, please email us at info@beavermountainworks.com
It did not show how you maid the ammo belt you gust showed how bullets fit your belt.
That's correct Sherry Rhymer, this video is not about how we made the ammo belt, it was only about the 3D cartridge loops. We have an older video series where you can see how we make the belt here: th-cam.com/play/PLLGi_zIaHwCWXF3XycB4YOiHJElAU9Myq.html
Thumbs down for the hat.
Thanks for watching anyway
