I'm getting ready to do my first bullet loops and found your video. Thank you for the lesson. You definitely saved me from a few mistakes! I'm doing these for a .30-30 on a cuff on the buttstock of a Marlin 336RC.
That may be one of the best explained tutorials on here, pacing, content level.... I am in awe! I came for help with a Cosplay project, and I'm glad I did!
I've been doing leathercraft for about a year now, and you have been my teacher the entire time. I've learned so much from you. everything is explained so well, and you keep it simple for all of us beginners. I've built along with your videos for so many of my projects and they come out great. Thanks for all you do for us Chuck!👍🏼
Hey Chuck, Just thought I'd drop you a line after watching you for so long to say a big thank you. it's been long overdue! I leanrt everything I know directly from you and your excellent tips on leather craft. I wouldn't be as good with my projects without you sharing your knowledge. I don't live in the U.S. i'm in Europe, but if ever I find myself in your neck of the woods, I'll be sure to give you a visit. Thanks again. :)
Hey Chuck! I really enjoy your videos. I would like to suggest a tutorial on how to make a rifle stock cover and forearm cover as a project for dressing up a saddle gun. This would be a great project for cowboy action shooters.
yessir some good information for the uninitiated in the crafting of gunbelt bullet loops. I learned a long time ago by trial and error and found that stitching between the loops was best for me..took longer like you say but in the end looks better in my opinion. I'd like to see a video on your tool bench and tool holders on the wall behind the bench..I'm fixin to redo mine and am always looking for new and better ideas...keep up the Great work Chuck and Weaver!
I've been concerned about trying to make my own cartridge belt and boy I must tell you I am sooo happy I found these videos, very instructional, thank you
Thank you, Chuck. I've made a number of cartridge belts, with various levels of success. This was very helpful in making my projects look more professional! Blessings, Brother.
I made an ammo belt for 40 .30-30 cartridges. I used the sew-down method with two stitch lines in between cartridges. 12 oz leather for the belt and 6 oz for the loops. Start to finish was about 10 hours. I would have used the oblong method to save time, but I don't like the look of it and I feel it is less secure.
another great chuck video. im glad to see these. lately weaver has been posting other videos and i was getting worried that the chuck videos would be getting phased out. not that the other ones arent good, but you cant beat a chuck video.
On my first cartridge belt I did sewn loops, one vertical stitch and a connecting angled stitch between each vertical. It looked really good and it took soooooooooo long. I don't think I would do stitched loops again unless I had a machine. I really like oblongs and if you want a bit more decoration you can drop a small head rivet between the loops.
NO MATTER WHAT, DO NOT PUT 22LR OR ANY CASE THAT SMALL IN BULLER LOOPS! Use a pouch for loose rounds or make a square holder for the 50 round boxes bullets came in! And for 9mm and 45acp, don't do it because they don't have rims like 357 and 45 Colt and will slip down and out!
Great advice that would have saved me a lot of messing about when I built my own cowboy holster. I got the loops to fit perfectly and then I applied a bees wax finish to my leather and that made the loops a bit to tight. So apply your finish and then try to see if the bullets still fit before sewing every loop on your belt.
Such great and truly helpful information. I love the idea of having the small test strips to work out the kinks and then transferring that to the template material. As always you are so great at explaining things. I will be saving this video to refer back to. A HUGE THANK YOU!!
Gettin' a little shaggy there, Chuck :-) I was finally able to get a haircut yesterday. Now my head feels so light I can't keep it from wobbling. Seriously, though, great video, as always. Thanks for all the great info you share.
Thanks, Chuck! Very timely video. I've been asked to make a steampunk wrist bracer with loops to hold glass vials. The principle of making the loops should be the same.
I always stitch between each loop. Did one from a kit that had the belt punched with oblongs for the strip. Didn't like the placement and the spacing was awkward. Never again. Wet form tip was great. Why didn't I think of that? I seem to ask that question way too often!
awesome info as always Chuck I really love the leather elements makes it easy re-find specific topics. you forgot to mention you can use this for vials and other round objects for costume stuff .
Do you have a full build video/series for a gun belt like the one shown? I don't think I see it anywhere yet, and I think it would be really popular. That thing looks amazing.
I like your stitch method the best. It really adds to the appearance of the belt. That's a great color on that rig you showed as well. Was the latigo lace on the holster for a purpose or just for looks?
Yeah i bought an awesome leather gun belt in good condition. The only problem is who ever owned it failed to keep the leather conditioned and supple so when i tried to insert some bullets the loops disintegrated in my hand. Im not a leather worker and have zero tools and knowledge on working with leather but i might attempt to fix it one day but am afraid ill only damage the belt trying to get the rivets out, other than the bullet loops the belt is good and i got it at a decent price so not a total loss. I guess ill use a Bandolier for now for the ammo.
I'm working on restoring a similar project and its the first leather work I've ever done. I was so worried to pop the rivets out and take it all apart. Luckily weaver has a video on removing rivets with a drill and everything went absolutely perfect. Unlike the video we didnt have a way to dent the top middle of the rivet so we just used a slightly bigger drill bit and went super slow and it still worked out fine. Here's the link, hope it helps and good luck! th-cam.com/video/HLZZpm-rsPA/w-d-xo.html
Chuck, I need to make some English bridles and tack. Most of what I see has a padding between the layers of leather. What do you suggest using for the padding.
Chuck is there any way to tighten the loops if they stretch after the holster is made. I used the oblong method on a holster with a strip of 4/5 oz for the loop material.
Hi there, We ship worldwide - you're welcome to send us an email and we can get you a shipping quote and complete total. Just make sure to include your shipping address. The email address is: info@weaverleather.com
I would be willing to bet that others have opinions on stitch lines between bullet loops. Some of those opinions are bound to match your opinion, so the opinion in question is not only your opinion. :-) I'm not a gun person. Considering the options you've presented, if I ever have occasion to make a belt with bullet loops, I think I would be inclined to share your opinion and stitch between the loops.
Hi Gopal, You can order directly from our website, we ship worldwide. Or you can send us an email at info@weaverleather.com and we can place the order for you. Payment online would have to be credit card, if you send us an email we can also arrange wire transfer.
I'm sorry I have not worked with fake leather so I don't know if it would mold well or not. The best advice I can give you is to experiment with a scrap piece but I can't imagine that it would absorb water very well.
I hope this is okay for a leather element idea. I couldn’t find an episode on making a dog collar. I would love to see what ideas chuck could dream up for small and larger dogs
Hi Chuck Me again: Please take this comment JUST from MY point of view, as I cannot speak for everyone, but I'm sure there are those of us who are thinking the same thing. You "blew through" this pretty fast and (for me) there were some rough to understand parts during the math? That being said, I'd have rather seen you go slower and more deliberately on LESS different calibers; making it easier to grasp the math part. When you started going 90 mph with the metric as well as American size measurements, you just completely lost me? Before I could comprehend what you had said, you were off to the next set of measurements. Here again; LOVE your videos, and have NEVER had anything negative to say about them, until this one. Thank you for putting this video out for the holster makers. I've been a customer of WLC and a channel subscriber since day one, and I don't see that changing? Stay safe. Keep your head down and don't take any wooden nickles. Showing my age there.:+)))) God bless: Dave
I saw a good video where they cut the gusset long and counted the stitching holes in the main body. Then they put that many holes in the gusset and it fit perfect. They trimmed the gusset after that.

That’s awesome timing! I’m gathering supplies to make myself a belt and holster and the bullet loops had me a little worried 😂
Thank you
great info. would like to see you do a project doing it from start to finish. sometimes it just isn't as easy as you say. thank you for the video
Thanks, Chuck! Very timely video. I've been asked to make a steampunk wrist bracer with loops to hold glass vials. The principle of making the loops should be the same.

@@WeaverLeatherSupply it turned out well. I'll have to share a picture with you.

It would be nice to see chuck making a watchband for a dress watch.
Would love to see a full walk through of a gun belt
Awesome video!! Do you have any measurement patterns or tutorials for making those belts?
Not yet but we've had a lot of requests so we'll have to do a video!
@@WeaverLeatherSupply Please do!
Please do a tutorial for the gun belts you show in these videos. They’re very nice looking belts!

For an idea, can you do a gun buttstock cover?
Thank you for the suggestion, we will definitely pass this on to Chuck!
Do you have measurements for .30 caliber rifle cartridges for a rifle butt cuff?
Anyone know the bullet loop spacing for 44mag? I assume slightly smaller then 45cal.
have you done a cheek riser for a rifle?
Can you do a leather element on magnetic closures?

What weight leather is the belt body?
I don’t own any bullets, but this was a fascinating lesson, nonetheless.
The technique can be used for many items. Good luck with your project! :)
i have that belt, I got it for $20, now I have to find a holster to match it.
Hi, what i can do if my shotgun cartridge becomes loos?
Dude how about a video of making a good slipper shoe or an easy and short boot?
I'm interested in purchasing your products in Mumbai lndia kindly guide me through

unbelivable every size but not for 357
