A fantastic review! You're enthousiasm is inspiring. I bought this same Grey version of the special last week. Have to wait untill the end of September for it to arrive........I traded in my v7 café for this one. ( with a bit of paint in my heart.....) really looking forward for the bike to arrive! Very cool. I just purchased once in the Blu Formale color. I’m a triumph modern classic fan, but this Guzzi is definitely the best looking modern classic currently on the market. Perfect bike to keep stock and not take away from its intended beauty

@@mostlymotorbikes absolutely spot on! I did go for the bar end mirrors as I found the rear view better, and then found they really added to the look. You’re right about the brakes, but only when they’re really new. I’ve 1000 miles on mine now and the brakes are excellent.

Great review, thank you! This V7 will be my next toy. Besides the great looks and the iconic engine, one thing that stands out for me is - no more mucking around with chain & lube. It is the only classic bike with shaft drive next to the BMW RnT - but for half the price ;-).

I have a 2015 v7 mk1 it’s 179kg, get 200 miles out of a tank, sounds eargasmic with zart pipes no baffles, no traction or abs, which is why it will be a lot lighter, gobs of torque right of idle, looks freaking amazing and is so much fun to ride, great review

I think it feels authentic because it is! After a lifetime (I'm 68) of owning most makes of motorcycle, I now own a 2015 Guzzi V7ii. The only bike I'd change it for is another Guzzi, more than likely the V7 850. Perhaps the Darwinian slowness of the V7's evolution is the reason it feels so right; The engine and transmission layout has remained the same, but modern technology has made it more than capable on today's roads - without sacrificing any of its vital character.
They have remained so similar that the rocker cover gaskets on my V7 Classic 2012 are interchangeable with my 1984 Monza as is the timing cover.

A really good review. I have the exact same model that you rode and I fully agree with your assessment. The best word I can find for this Guzzi is “authentic”. What it sets out to do it does exceptional well and with style and character. Most of the criticisms I have seen come from sports bike fans judging it fir what isn’t trying to be,
The vibrations and the brakes improve as the bike beds in. The shaft drive is brilliant and unique in thus sector. And you can increase the gear change warning level once the bike is fully run in. It’s published wet weight reflects the 25 litre fuel tank: other manufacturers can score cynically with smaller, much less convenient, capacities. The weight is also mostly held low down and so is less noticeable than some lighter but top-heavy bikes. The air cooled motor is easy to get at reducing maintenance costs for people like the two of us who are best kept away from spanners.
Give this bike a try if are in the market for a fun, classic-looking, practical bike with real world power, plenty of the kind of torque you actually need and all the electrics that are really necessary. If, however, you want (or perhaps even need) 100+ horse power with all the latest electronic gizmos, or something with off-road capabilities, then look elsewhere.

I have the v7 lll, fun bike, low maintenance, upright and comfy, lightweight, nimble, affordable, no wind protection, great backroad bike, start getting uncomfy at about 75 miles, great second bike to a goldwing or ultra ect

Love hearing people gush over Moto Guzzis when they do. I always get the feeling that its the best bike ever. One of the few things that have stuck out to me have always been the V7's front forks. They always seemed flimsy to me. Yet I've never gotten that when looking at the Triumph Bonnevilles. I think that would be the only thing I would change. That and the front forks. Im happy that they finally decided to upgrade the engine as I think that was one of the biggest downfalls in this day and age. Happy 100th Moto Guzzi! Thanks for the video!

I've only ever owned two Moto Guzzi's, a 1980 V50 Mk II and a 1980 SP1000 Mk II, both were great handling machines with their own character.

I have a V7III, it’s my first motorcycle , I was literally shocked by the new 2021 clutch and gearbox, totally different, easier. Overall more rigid , maybe it’s the frame and/or shock absorber setup. The new back tyre is cool 😎

just had a test ride on a v7 and although i liked the the bike, you said on your test that the throttle was silky smooth, well i found the fuelling under 3000 revs to be very jerky almost Norman Collier in fact. but you are right about the brakes a bit wooden...But what a cool bike. god bless the Italians. As far as Italian bikes, I have owned a ducati 860, moto morini 500 camel, laverda 3cl 1000, cagiva 650, and currently have a 1989 Moto Guzzi Mille GT 1000 and a 2013 Moto Guzzi Stone 750. Have owned several German bikes to include BMW and Zundaps. Grew up with British bikes--meaning Triumph and BSA. Have never been interested in Harley. Owned several Suzuki's to include 2-stroke models, the water-cooled two-stroke 750 and the Wankel rotary 750. The Moto Guzzis have been my favorite above all the rest. Quirky, reliable, tractor-like in that the Japanese "refinement" is not there--but if you love just being connected to machinery and sound--Moto Guzzi!--mike battle

Love the twin clocks cant stand the offset ones. Love shaft drive. Had it on my bt1100 yamaha great for older riders not pratting around with chain

I have a 2022 Special in Blue Formale. I wanted a standard bike that does everything it's suppose to and not look like a toy found in a Cracker Jack box or video game. Great classic styling and is backed up by fully competent machanicals. It goes, it shifts, it turns, it stops. All done well. Low maintenance with the shaft drive and simplicity itself valve lash adjustments, it's an easy bike to live with. Comfortable seat and perfect ergonomics for my 5'9" frame. It gives me a pride of ownership I haven't had since my BMW R75/5 from the 70s. The Guzzi is a better bike in every way measurable though that shouldn't be a surprise being a modern bike in all important aspects.

You can still get into the abs with two fingers in the front brake. It just take a bit more of a squeeze than some bikes. It also has a braided steel line to the caliper so the lever is quite firm. About the same as my V-Strom.

I hesitated for a couple of months between this and a W800, as there’s no Triumph dealer in my neighborhood (which put the Bonneville out of contest). Pulled the trigger on a V7 Stone for the seat comfort and the driveshaft.

Good review, thank you. In my opinion it needs a colour coordinated rear 'guard, or stainless front & rear. Needs twin front discs, if only for the look. I don't like the kink in the silencers but mistral do a better looking & far lighter system. Oh, & why did Guzzi not fit the 80hp motor from the V85TT?...

If they had fitted the 80hp motor I'd have bought one by now.
I had a Guzzi for 10 years and rode it all over Europe. No other bike has ever 'spoke to me' in the same manner. I've since done it on BWMs, Goldwing, Rocket 3, Tigers and my KTM. I'd willingly bolt some panniers on this, strap on a tent and cruise around in the sunshine for 2 or 3 weeks (I'd have the Stone though). The only thing on my mind is that a Tracer 7 is about the same price and the Tiger 850 Sport is only about £1k more.

I would love a mix of the stone and the special.I like the blacked out stone but would love that with the special rims and dual clocks 👌 was also thinking about a tiger 850 but that's about 3000 euro more expensive here in Belgium.I ride a street triple R at the moment,also a great bike but I miss the "sexyness" of my Guzzi 😅
Great review! I have essentially the same bike but 2020 so a 750. Some comments if I may. Moto Guzzi is embroidered on the rear of the seat. No chain to clean and lube! The red rev limiter light is indeed adjustable to help with careful run in. The valves can be adjusted in 30 minutes and plugs changed in maybe 5 minutes. The air filter is under the seat and changed with 3 or 4 screws removed. The engine vibes are very interesting, never ridden a bike quite like it. Below 3500 rpm it feels like "2 pitbulls trying to get out"...a quote from a friend of mine who also owns one (and loves it). And at around 3,800 the vibes become a kind of hum or thrum that is most pleasant! I also have a V Strom 650, with more HP, but unless one rides in the 7 to 10k rpm range all the time the V7 is faster. In real world riding the 52HP mine has is plenty, at least for one up riding, like I do. The bike feels nimble due to the low center of gravity......the tank holds all that gas low down due to the fact that there are no cylinder heads in the way. Changes? Agostini exhaust, 10mm longer rear shocks (for quicker handling), and a switch to something like Conti Road Attack 3 (or 4) radial tires. And I am taller than you so I lowered the pegs 25mm and raised the bars 20mm. Superb bike and thanks for the review!

Could put a larger rotor or better rotor on the front or go up to 6pot calipers if you wanted to.Better brake pads improve bite by 10% & 10% is quite a improvement & sintered pads like EBC improve bite 15% but sintered wear discs out faster.Upgraded non sintered pads & larger premium rotor or better designed one like drilled & slotted do a great job for not to much.

I live in the states where we have a large highway system and the speed limits are 70 MPH in the area where I live. I spent my time split between the highways and the backroads. The highway gets you where you want to go quickly and then the backroads are great for just enjoying the ride. All this being said, reviews used to tell the RPM's at 60 MPH which gave a good idea what it was like at highway speeds. So I ask you, how many RPM's does the V7 produce at 60 MPH. How does it feel in sizth gear at 60 and 65 MPH ?
Can’t remember the exact rpm but it felt comfortable cruising on the motorway

How did you get on?
I have to rent one. Ive previously owned a Guzzi 1975 85oT and a 2017 V7III. This looks and goes real good it sounds. Im sure the commentators guzzis brake pads just need to break in. Remember the guzzi is new. Presently own 2015 Triumph T100. Love the Triumph. Its engine 865cc is amazing

Audio, editing, as well, just very nice. One complaint, please ride with index finger upon front brake lever. Saves milliseconds which translate to reduced response time & shorter, quicker stops in that inevitable emergency which may, or may not be your last. Word from me only, may Jesus give you many miles. Beautiful bike! I was all for the stone first but think the special looks great. Especially with a few small mods I can already see. Tail Tidy, remove the grab rail (is it easy?) and new pipes and mirrors 😀 stunning bike right off the bat nonetheless!

Looks fantastic and the new 850 gives it the extra punch. Objectively quite superior to the Royal Enfield interceptor but not when you run a value for money screen across it. Here in NZ it’s 60% more expensive. Plus I already have an Italian motorcycle so the Royal Enfield is going to get my money.

Better measure that front brake, it's supposed to be a 320mm not a 260mm. 4 piston Brembo. That's as good as you'll find on these single disc bikes.
How did you find the low to mid range fuelling? I like what I'm hearing about this bike from this and other reviews, but the Euro 5 fuelling constrained fuelling has been picked out for criticism by MCN and others. Fuelling on earlier V7s has been discussed as an issue (rightly or wrongly) on Guzzi forums.
Honestly I thought it was great. I thought the throttle was smooth and not anarchy at all. I don’t know what the other people were riding but the fuelling is fine to me.
I also test rode this bike for a couple of hours about a week ago and the clutch and throttle response/fuelling felt fine to me too. Don't be put off by the likes of MCN and Racing and Adventure (if they're the 'others' you're referring to), just take a test ride for yourself. :)
I have ridden mine for over 1000 miles in all weathers now and the fuelling is spot on. This is a new bike with little in common with earlier v7s apart from its style and shaft drive. You need to try one yourself and not be put off by people who insist in judging everything as if it’s a sports bike. The guzzi is comfortable, with a low seat height, has power you can actually use in the real world, a 250 mile fuel tank, shaft drive, ABS, traction control, and bucket loads of character and style. It is not a 150 mph missile with umpteen rider aids and computer gadgetry.
The brake thing... that'll be down to pads more than anything (and making sure it's properly bled). This bike doesn't need a second disc, those are added for heat capacity on track (or due to the extra mass of tourers), they don't affect stopping power under normal conditions. This bike should still be able to do stoppies with just the one disc, though that's easier with the ABS disabled.

I've got the v85tt and it's pretty much perfect though it could use a bit more power,but thats just me i do actually love it, but surprised me that they use the same engine in the v7 but reduced the hp to 65 from 80! 80 hp in a semi adventure bike but only 65 in a fully on road bike? Don't get it.

Nice video, is a good bike for commuting honestly? daily use (comfortable) and weekend touring, of perhaps recreation purpose? you know about maintenance/ repair? expensive? it is wise to jump from naked bike to this classic for daily use

At least they put a 6 speed transmission on this, unlike Triumph, that only stick 6 gears on their 1200 engine. My only gripe is the v engine turned sideways. Almost the same as the the BMW opposing twin. There's enough heat under u as is, without scalding ur legs on hot cylinder heads. But for the price, this one looks a winner, thanks for the showing.

I'd rather have a 5 speed gearbox.
The engine being mounted sideways & Heads sticking out means they're out in the wind & the heat just blows away as you move so your knees don't get that hot.Actually gets rid of more heat than a normal mounted V-twin that's why they ain't got oil coolers mounted on them like other oil cooled bikes.A Harley Davidson put out more heat on your legs.

Kinda like air cooled vs water cooled. It sure doesn't save the rider. I have had only 1 water cooled bike out of 6, and that was the Yamaha VMAX. 1200. And at a light, when the fan kicked in, the heat was just crazy. But on the ride, was fine. But I'm sorry. Those heads get hot, oil cooled, air cooled, water cooled. and them sticking out where your legs are will get ya. Gotta wear chaps I guess 😂. Anyway just enjoy and ride safe. Watch out for wet leaves and standing water. Two wheels weren't meant to hydroplane. Take care 👍

Maybe AAA motorbike 👖 jeans with armour sewn into them be ok for shorter riders with the heat not really a bike for really tall riders.I can see the heat getting hot riding in town or if tall & knees mm from Heads.
Has the “Special “ got a fuel gauge or gear position indicator?..( I believe the “Stone” hasn’t)
Not sure tbh mate. I can’t remember.
This bike ticks all the boxes for me....looks, shaft drive etc. However I can't bring myself to pull the trigger because of the appalling service and attitude of the dealer network. I have 2 friends who have had nothing but trouble from 2 dealerships 200 miles apart, and another friend paid a £2,000 deposit only for the dealership to go into liquidation a week later. A real shame they can't get their act together. Same goes for other brands like KTM too.

Yes, 100% you would have no issues.
Nicest of the current bunch of modern classics, without a doubt. Quoted fuel tank capacity will include the reserve so it's 21 litres total, going to reserve after 17 litres - still a very good amount for touring.

@@mostlymotorbikes Yes. They are cool but I prefer the classic look with twin clocks and all that chrome. I'll keep my fingers crossed for next year's colours to include gloss black with orange stripes, like the old 750S.
It's not that hard to paint the tank (and side covers). You could choose any color(s) in the observable universe!
