I can’t wait for my cybertruck... seeing this, I feel like every day I don’t own a Tesla is another day I’m missing out on the future. This app is so cool!
Thank you for your video. I downloaded this app and love it. I often leave my phone at home so this is perfect. Also love opening my garage door from my watch, for no apparent reason!
This was fanatastic! not only do I love having this app (never knew it even existed) your explanation of its features and how to use it was spot on! Nice Job and thanks so much for doing this !
Great video! I also gave the video a thumbs up and subscribed. Purchased the app just now and it is working like a charm. Your step by step instructions are extremely helpful.
You sold me on it. The app is totally cool on my S5 watch. :). I use the "remote" app which is for the iphone with Siri shortcuts like "siri cool my car" or "siri heat my car" so thats useful too
Finally got it after so many tries, that I got locked out of my Tesla account. Reset password. Rebooted watch and iPhone. At last, success!! A good part of a boring morning shot.
Using another app that has the watch feature I accidentally open my trunk in the pouring rain and it was five hours before I could get to my car. I stopped using it on my watch app for that reason.
Hi you did a great exclamation around including the complication. Sometimes the complication imagery changes to spelled out "Tesla Watch" others times the Icon for Tesla... do you have any idea why? Thank you.
On a side note I upgraded from the Series 0 (original Apple Watch) to a 4 last year and it is Night and day difference. Battery lasts 2-3 days at a time, just charges when I am in the shower, and complications are awesome. I would consider a used or leftover S4 when they launch the 6 if you want to be FrugalAppleGuy also, or jump for the 6 and hang onto it for a while. Thanks for your video!
Unfortunately we don't get the LTE watch here in The Netherlands. Apple doesn't sell it. I have the standard one, so I guess the options in the app would be quite limited unless I also bring my phone.
There is also an iPhone app with watch complication that is really quite good called Tesla Remote. It would be great if you could do a review/comparison of both along with your conclusion. I love the watch app especially when in the garage, to open the car without having to go get my iPhone.
This review is great! Thank you - I bought & configured the app. This happens to me from time to time when I am working upstairs (phone on charge stand) and run down to the car to get/put something.
Never heard of this app until I saw another video of you unlocking your Tesla with your watch. I can't believe they haven't added an Apple Watch portion of the stock app yet. Will definitely download this. An update since you posted this, though, it's now $5.99, up from the $3.99 that you stated. It must be getting more popular.
Very helpful. Thanks. But changes since this was made. $11.99 for one but worth it. I don’t see how to start my car. Maybe that option has been removed.
Looks like it would be handy, but having to charge y wristwatch every couple of days, and having to switch to an Apple phone, I'll stick with my RAZR app and my Casio WWV watch which runs a couple of years on one battery. Some really nifty programming, my hat's off to the author.
Great video. My Apple Watch for Tesla mileage is not in sync with my iPhone or on the monitor in my Model Y. Do you have any tips on how I can correct this?
thanks for your video on the Watch app for Tesla. since I took delivery of a Model Y 5 months ago I remembered watching your video when I was researching Tesla. it was time to follow up to see how it is going. my question is: are you still using the app? have you had any problems with the functions? has there been any security issues? thank you for making this video…
Just got watch and was wanting to exactly all this, really helpful review will definitely get this app. I have stats app too, does this enable entry without phone too?
So, I do not have the App Store on my watch, and can’t figure out how to get it. Finally I read the requirements for the watch app for Tesla and it says it needs a OS 6 or later (which I don’t have) You said in your video that you had a gen 2 watch. My watch is version 4.3.2 model A1553
Great idea but I have been unable to sign in from my iPhone X. Totally frustrating since the phone keyboard does not put up to assist in login. Trying to input from the phone by audible input or text almost impossible. The shortcut noted in FAQ does not work. My phone won't accept it. I need a quick solution or info on how to get my money back.
As usual, a very good video. The only issue I’m having is selecting the app for the complication. The Watch for Tesla is the only app loaded to my watch that doesn’t show up. I was wondering if you had this issue and found a work around.
Thanks for your videos they are very informative and very well-made. Please make a video similar to this for the standard Tesla iPhone app. Also please make a video of the SiriusXM 3Rd party app. Thank you.
Christian Störcher had the same problem - BUT last night an update came to the watch and the car picture magically appeared on the watch in the background. Very cool.
I’ve got the app installed on the Watch and shown as a complication on the watch face as well. It’s giving me the battery percentage etc. Question is: does this app keep the car awake all the time which leads to increased phantom battery drain?
how exactly did you get it to work? I put the whole link in the background image but still not showing up also tried uploading my own image and adding the link and nothing. Help?
If you have any feature suggestions or bugs to report, please let me know by opening an issue on the issue tracker by tapping the support link at watchfortesla.com :-D Feature requests or improvements are most welcome!
I’m having the same issue, I can copy the string, even download it to my iPad/iPhone, but how the heck to get that copied into the field on the phone app?!? @frugalteslaguy - can you please help us?
First copy this URL into your iPhone clipboard: static-assets.tesla.com/v1/compositor/ Once in the Watch for Tesla App settings on the Apple Watch, enable the ‘Background Image’ and ‘Add vehicle option code querystring’ options and when you click in the field below the ‘Background Image’ option, select the keyboard option and then from your iPhone tap on the pop up notification for keyboard input. Once there, do a three finger tap on the iPhone keyboard and you will see a paste option icon appear at the top of the screen, tap the icon and the URL that you copied to your iPhone clipboard will populate the text field, hit return on the keyboard and the URL will be present in the Watch app. See the FAQ page for additional information at www.watchfortesla.com/faq
Great review, bought the app immediately after watching it, thx! Just one question, how do you enable the keyboard function on iPhone when entering the Tesla username and password? I only get the dictate and scribble option.......
Frugal Tesla Guy Ah, that clears it up. I thought I might have missed some hidden apple feature of the iWatch, since I don’t own mine that long. Thank you for your reply!
Do you get a safety prompt if unlocking car/opening trunk or frunk? I'm currently using the Nikola app and accidentally opened both frun and trunk sometime last night. Pretty annoying when the garage door is busted so anyone can get into the parking house :)
I have a Gen 4 watch and the app will not show as I scroll thru the app list when I try to add Watch for Tesla. Any ideas? By the way price is now $7.99
Can’t figure out how to copy entire configuration url. I press on it to bring up copy function but only copies the visible portion on screen not the entire URL.

If you input exactly "static-assets.tesla.com/v1/compositor/" without the quotes as the background image url and then enable add querystring option, the app will automatically generate configurator image urls for your specific vehicle. This is especially handy if you have multiple vehicles - then each vehicle will have a corresponding image according to model, color and wheels :-D
The continuity keyboard in iOS 13 is super buggy. In order to paste, you need to use the new three-finger-tap gesture directly on the textbox - then you should be able to paste...
Oh - and do try with "static-assets.tesla.com/v1/compositor/" without the quotes and enable the querystring option :-D - then the app will generate the correct url for your specific vehicle
I downloaded it. It’s “ok” but slow. Trying to type in the configuration url on the keyboard is monotonous and even after two tries, the car never showed up. It would be nice if it let you copy and paste but the keyboard doesn’t let you. What’s the secret there?

Yes, you must always have your phone within reach because the watch uses the phone’s signal whether it’s LTE or WiFi. If your phone is in the car it will not be locked.
As a software developer, I hate 3rd party applications that require private credentials. It's bad practice and just another way for another company to invade my privacy. It's a hard pass from me.
As he said in the video, you could just generate the authentication code on the Tesla website and copy it into the app, but you won’t be able to get keyless drive.
Of all theTesla channels I see here, this is one of the most useful.
I agree. The information is well thought out and positively digestible.
Absolutely the best review and demo I have seen for any app. This influenced my purchase. Great job. Subscribed!
This is another video that needs updating. The app is now $11.99. Huge price increase from 2 years ago.

FTG!!! I find your tips really helpful. I LOVE this app (one month in), and I've also taken your recommendation for the phone mount. Great stuff.
I'll give it a try and see how it goes. I had to give up Temp complication to post this complication. Only had my Model Y for 5 days and love it.

$12.99 currently. unless there were some wild improvements made I think I’m good. nonetheless, I appreciate you making this informative video. cheers.
I have been waiting for something like this! Can't believe you guys are 101°. And thank you for your intuitive video.
I’ve used this app for a couple of months and it’s fantastic!
Finally got it after so many tries, that I got locked out of my Tesla account. Reset password. Rebooted watch and iPhone. At last, success!! A good part of a boring morning shot.
I just downloaded this app last night. Your review cleared up some questions I had about the app. Thanks very much!
Always helpful. Thanks for the insightful information.
I recently got this App - I do like it. It is much more responsive than other option.

Interesting watch application. It looks well done and useful.
Great explanation of the features and the install. Giving it a try.

Thanks....Great tutorial. Where is the URL for the image upload?
I wasn’t aware this watch existed.... I may go get it. Great review and detailed explanation.
Tesla need to make this as an official complication on the Tesla App
I wish. I feel like Tesla doesn’t care enough to improve the app for iPhones because…Apple.
Great App. And always, a simple, easy to understand explanation. Thanks👍
So great. A real interesting report with so many information. Thank you so much. 👍🏼

Having trouble either copying or pasting the car picture link. Any help much appreciated. I have copy and pasted link int watch app, no picture.

He actually talks about this just after the 5 minute mark
I just looked at downloading the app, but the list price was 19.99 not 3.99.
Are you sure it was watch app for tesla? That sounds like the price for stats app.
Frugal Tesla Guy I did what you said from the iPhone and the image looked like your video with the different screen shots.
After few try I figure out background image, it’s a best app so far for Tesla. I highly recommend.
how exactly did you get it to work? I put the whole link in the background image but still not showing up also tried uploading my own image and adding the link and nothing. Help?
Love the app! If I beg enough can I beta test Siri commands? They are fairly predictable on my Apple Watch 4.
I am planning to get the GPS only watch not cellular, what features will I lose access to?
👏👏👍
Thank you so much, great Video, great APP, so much more fun!!
Any chance that Summon will be added to the features?
Thanks for the video. I downloaded the app for the watch and it's awesome on the latest Apple Watch. Appreciate the info on it.
Great review and tempted to get it. Unfortunately its now $11.99….big increase over the $3.99 you paid.
Plus you still need a card, a fob, or your phone to drive the car! Watch alone will not operate the car!
It’s 28.00 in Canada
It is $19.99 now. Would you guys still think it’s worth the price. I’m still debating. Only 657 reviews still

I'm currently using the Nikola app and accidentally opened both frun and trunk sometime last night.
Pretty annoying when the garage door is busted so anyone can get into the parking house :)
Not for unlocking the doors which is also the case in the native app. However, I do get a confirmation prompt for the frunk and trunk.
I have a Gen 4 watch and the app will not show as I scroll thru the app list when I try to add Watch for Tesla. Any ideas? By the way price is now $7.99
Frugal Tesla Guy-today I bought the app, but I have a couple of questions. What is Tesla API, and in the box it says Token? Thank you to your reply.
The developer would probably be able to answer those for you better. He can be contacted via twitter. @watchfortesla
Great informative video as always. Looking forward to getting my Tesla in2023 do you think they might do a facelift by then. Cheers 👍.
Can’t figure out how to copy entire configuration url. I press on it to bring up copy function but only copies the visible portion on screen not the entire URL.
Just paste in "static-assets.tesla.com/v1/compositor/" without the quotes and enable the querystring option - app will do the rest :-D
Did that. No joy. How does app get details on my vehicle’s configuration?
Hi - with my configuration it was enough with even a shorter url: static-assets.tesla.com and enabling the querystring
Is it true the software is now updated as an app to install on your smart phone instead of installing just on the watch?
Can you use Siri to open the trunk?
Siri voice command states” took too long to respond.” How so I fix this?
Another great video. Just downloaded it.
Like it so far. Love that I can disable it waking my car up. That’s why I don’t use the stats app.
I just got a watch and have stats app, which auto installed on watch i noticed, does it constantly poll the car, and cause phantom drain? Do you know

How do I get the configuator url from the website onto my watch, to show my car like you have?
I ended typing it into my watch manually. It’s a process but worth it!
Great video as usual! Wondering if there are any security concerns with providing the app with your Tesla login information.
There definitely are - and you should always be careful. If you have any reservations, use the token feature instead - tokens are revoked when you change your password, so it's easy to log out everywhere if you feel suspicious. And by only handing out the token, you can rest assured that only the tesla-owner api can be accessed, and not the rest of your account.
Thank you from Germany the jörg from Darmstadt super done
What does the “add vehicle options querystring” toggle button enable?
If you input exactly "static-assets.tesla.com/v1/compositor/" without the quotes as the background image url and then enable add querystring option, the app will automatically generate configurator image urls for your specific vehicle. This is especially handy if you have multiple vehicles - then each vehicle will have a corresponding image according to model, color and wheels :-D
Hello dear, please can you help me how to find my API auth token. Thank you!
Would this work on Apple series 3 watch?
Yes. Mine is a series 2.
How did you get the image url into the app? Using the keyboard on my iPhone doesn’t allow me to paste the url into the text box.
Great app, love it...
Makes me want a Tesla even more. 👍😍
Is there a Model Y configurator option available to update the app image?
Not sure. It may not have been around long enough for someone to make one.
Try 30.99 now
