  • It's been a bit since the Black Bay 58 was released, and it is an absolute gem of a watch. But in 2021, would I still recommend this diver for your hard earned money?

      The t fit would definitely improve the wear but uncle seiko make a half link which solves the problem. A 4th mico adjustment should have been implemented by tudor in the first place.

    I have the BB58 for 2 years. I wouldn’t recommend it as your first watch because you probably won’t want another watch after this. It gets the most wrist time of all my watches and I never stop being amazed at it’s beauty and functionality. The snowflake hour and second hand make for the best readability than any watch I own. When the sun hits it just right and the gold tones pop it’s simply breathtaking and I forget to actually read the time.

    Closer up, my favourite thing is the rich, round, 'ploppy' gold dust text and chapter ring application. The way it can shadow and catch the light, so round bodied. So much depth. It really adds a lot of character imo, versus, say a sub with simple, flat print white text that is shrewd and cold.

  • @morganthedruid1
    @morganthedruid1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I do hope you are foreshadowing, that bronze in 39mm would be amazing and you're the man to make it happen Max. I love the BB58 but it is a small Black Bay and the Black Bay line is seen as Stepping Stone watch much like the Oris Divers 65 and many other really lovely sub £3K dive watches. Tudor need a destination luxury dive watch, I think they should have made the whole range of the Black Bay available as 39mm alternatives to keep us all happy then made something amazing , imagine a 38mm precious metal 9401 Submariner, something well over $10K, beautifully vintage and a real statement. 3 beers in Max and getting carried away 😂

      @WatchCrunchOfficial  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Another great video--the shots are fantastic. Like this watch, except for the gilt dial. I really like the Navy Blue version, although I haven't seen it in the steel yet. The blue has a cleaner look. The No Date and no crown guards really give it a vintage look that I like.
    Alas, these are too hard to get right now. In addition, I am not willing to pay the Flipper Tax. I can wait until I see one at my local AD. Finally, it's no tragedy if I never get one.

    Cool review. Did you have any issues with sizing the bracelet? I noticed you use 4 and 6 links on either side of the clasp which is my configuration as well. But, my issue is with the length of the clasp. It's slightly too big and pushes out the bracelet a bit which doesn't allow it to wrap around the wrist smoothly. Do you have this issue?

    • @WatchCrunchOfficial

    Hey there love your videos I have a question. I want to get a statement piece under $4000 brand new (got a lot of middle brand watches and such and a lot of divers already)
    I would like to get one piece that says luxury and is my go-to, for let say, a weekend nite out on the las vegas strip w friends dressed up etc. Something that pops and looks superlative and special I would like to buy.
    I've been thinking about the tudor style in black dial, or something like a carrera?
    But I recently have been watching a lot of videos on tudor black bay. Especially the 58 in blue on bracelet. It looks really nice and I think would be perfect for my first lux piece but
    ..I think it won't be a statement piece or a visually stunning piece?
    Haven't seen it in person. I've read a lot where they say the black bay is just very understated almost muted and the vintage aspect of it just doesn't make it look like a lot of luster in appearance.
    Also , i have too many divers. But i dont just want to get a dress watch just to fill the evening watch statement watch when my gut says bb 58? I don't know. I haven't seen one in any store near me. What is your suggestion about the 58? ( in terms of style and look as mentioned above in my concern, not sizing as I know the specs are fine).

    Good visuals on this video. One note about the geometric shapes. This is part of the history of this watch as a tool for the Canadian Navy. One of their requests was to further differentiate shapes from the previous iterations supplied for the Marine Nationale. So for me, I like the story for why we have the shapes on the dial. A full snowflake version would be great as well but overall great watch however you look at it.

      @@WatchCrunchOfficial I think you miss the point of this watch…while certain watch geeks will search out the watch you own,many others just want a good looking watch without obsessing over minute details. Not to say one is right over the other,just stating an opinion. Not everyone can have an original snowflake,and congrats on yours,but not all of us need that. I myself just liked the vibe of the BB58 when I first saw a pic of it and eventually bought one. I have a datejust I bought new in ‘83 and love it…the BB58 is just a change of pace for me. • @WatchCrunchOfficial
      @WatchCrunchOfficial  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question. It's a beautiful watch. But to my eyes, the Rolex sub has round shapes (mercedes, lollipop, hour indices). The Tudor pelagos for example has square shapes instead. The BB58 mixes the two and that bothers my esthetic sense.

    I’ve had a few watches that I suppose would be in the luxury category… Have not yet owned a Tudor. I have been very interested in the Pelagos (42mm Titanium)...One it has a top grade ETA movement that is less expensive, as compared to the in-house movements, to service. It’s dinner the models with the in-house movements… Although 42 mm as a lug to lug of only 48...I guess I need to try on both...I have a 7 1/2 inch wrist so I am thinking proportionally 42mm might be the way to go...thanks for the great review....as always!

    @joelmoore3804 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I agree the the dial lacks a little bit of the macro detail. However, I think the case and bezel make up for that, at least for me. The form and subtle curves of the case and the bezels fine refined knurling are what allows such a bold and somewhat unrefined dial to shine. The watch as a whole design is really quite brilliant. I could do without the snowflake hands though.

    I hadn't actually seen the Black Bay Bronze dial with the Arabic numerals. That is very cool, and I would love to see that variant on a BB58 model. I don't really have an issue with the shapes, as it is true to the vintage design. I also wonder if Tudor has any plans to slim down the movement in the Black Bay heritage in the 41mm sizing. The thickness of that line is the only thing that makes me hesitate, because I do have a 7.25" wrist that can support that diameter, and not have it look large.

    I very recently bought the Black Bay 58 Navy Blue on the steel bracelet to compliment a range of predominantly black-dialled watches in my collection that include the classic Rolex Submariner Date 16610 that I've owned for 19 yrs. The Tudor is a super, very well-made luxury timepiece and I appreciate its rather understated blue dial and bezel compared to the 'bling-blue' ceramic of my Omega Seamaster 300. Like-for-like think of the Blue 58 as a more modern take on its original black and gilt sibling. The blue really pops in daylight or in well-lit rooms and a pleasure to wear. Although not quite up there with the Rolex Sub in the absolute quality stakes - but why should it when barely 35% of the retail price - go to an AD and try one on. In-house COSC certified movement, 70 hrs power reserve, staggering lume.... you won't be disappointed.

    Personally I think the dial layout of current BB models is genius...nothing clashes for my eyes. What I could the BB line and BB58 accuse of, is that these obviously aren't real dive or tool watches...many other watches are too, but that is something that is very prominent in the BB line. While I think Omegas Seamaster 300 is an rather ugly watch, its more of its own thing without trying to be a remake of something.
    On the other hand, there is no real alternative if it goes for a classic and classic sized dive style watch without any unnecessary fuss. Most other contenders are 41 or 42, which rule them out for me.
    Just got my BB58 and really like, while not loving it (yet)...was eyeballing a 5 digit sub, but these made a price jump withing the last 2 years, which I cant see myself spending for such a rather simple watch.
