Lots of love about this car!
I'm on the verge of taking early retirement and looking for a car to enjoy with all my spare time. Having read what you have said, I think I have found the answer!
To be honest , i wish the suv thing would go out of fashion. Apart from the trident grill, it could be a Cayenne/Kia cross. Struggle to find it amongst the herd in the supermarket car park. Stick with my old gen 7 Celica. Get lots of positive comments too for a nearly 20 year old car. Bring back the Coupe. Great video though.
I used to agree. Then I bought an SUV. The ease of getting in and out compared to a 'normal car' let alone a Celica (I owned an 190vvt)! Is easy. The slightly higher riding position is nice. But obviously. SUVs are hardly the last thing in driving dynamics. But truthfully, how often are you experiencing that last ten percent of performance in a sporty car. I get it. But also get it 😮

@@markbrennan4693funny you should mention Cayman in an SUV/Crossover thread, because I have a 4.0 Boxster for my weekend thrills but absolutely love our Macan even though it’s only the 4cyl model - it’s such a brilliant all-rounder. The age of your Celica is making me think that you’re maybe stuck in the ‘90s with your assumptions regarding the handling deficiencies of SUVs - the current crop of “sporty” Crossovers are as far removed in their abilities from the early Merc ML’s and RAV4s as you’d find a new Cayman or GR86 would be to your Celica. Harry, I feel you, I have been a sucker for Maserati since the late 90s when I bought a biturbo, and drove from Boston to California and drive it daily for two years (!!). It never broke! I have owned several Ferrari’s since then (308, 355 spider, 365gtc) but the very late Merak SS I have now is the keeper, no hydraulics. I should probably make a video on the Merak as I have stroked the engine to 3.3L and done some internal modifications (looks totally stock), but it has a bit over 300hp now at 7300rpm. It goes well. Very exciting car now. I call it the Merak R
It's built on the Giorgio platform shared by the Giulia and Stelvio. Possibly one of the best platforms for any vehicle, ever. The multi-air 2.0L engine is also brought over from the Stelvio / Giulia. One of the best 2.0 4cyl engines on the market. Far from boring.
I see nothing boring about it. It’s quite good looking and the fact you f it being a 2L engine is irrelevant. It’s fast, it sounds great and it handles very well.
I have a Stelvio (and had a Giulia before) , they do the same but only to put it in D with the right lever! It doesnt work to put in R for which you always need to use the stick. Wish I could add that feature to mine - I love it
@@Frangranceif you put it to neutral first (pull both paddles) you can select reverse by just pushing the gear selector (no need to hold the shift button) to save 0,003 secs of your life.

Apparently to do with some bulls*** legislation (probably from the states) where some idiot has inadvertently pulled a paddle and crashed. New GranTurismo doesn’t have that feature at all even though same set up, as per Grecale filtering through now 😢
Very nice review, as always! It would be interesting to see the Trofeo version. How it compares to the Alfa Romeo Stelvio quadrifoglio. I had a Stelvio quadrifoglio - probably the best handling sports SUV out there! The problem is this thing is so dynamic, you end up driving way too fast! Now driving a much more reasonable Levante modena - it's so nice looking and so Italian! Love it!
the best thing about the paddle shifters is that you don't need to use buttons P D N R because you can do everything with paddles, when you start the car with the right paddle you go to drive, if you want to reverse you press left paddle, if you want neutral press both paddles simultaneously, when you stop you don't need to put in Park to turn it off, after pressing Stop it goes to Park automatically. so you don't need to use the buttons at all.
I had a Levante as a rental car and it felt like a jeep cherokee inside with some stainless accents. This is a much improved interior and i love the screen.
Had mine for 6 months and only issues so far have been with the alarm and some glitches on the screens. Car is a joy to drive on motorways and not too big to impractical round town. I had the Trofeo version for a week and its another level. Fantastic car with the V6 form the MC20 but a little much for daily use.
It's good news they made a competitive car and I hope it'll bring them success. Personally, I'd never be interested in an SUV, as it leaves me totally cold from a design point of view. But if this could be Maserati's Cayenne, it would mean they can produce more memorable shapes and that's always good news.
Thanks Harry - best part of Sundays - the problem I have with these screen dashboards is they will look so old hat in 10 years - Dials & clocks never date - well they might date , but they add charm!
Agree with your comments. £84k is expensive and must have most options ticked! I have a Modena Prima Series with most options included and cost less than this. Love the interior. The space etc. is better inside than a Macan. Coming from a heavier car, the handling is a revelation. But miss 6 cylinder. It is quick, fast enough for U.K. roads.
The interior and build quality is really a step up from last-generation models and at an all-time high for the marque! If I bought one I'd spec it a cream or white leather interior. Very impressive debut 1st attempt in the segment from Maserati! Just thought I'd mention the Maserati Levante Trofeo a wonderful car!! operatic, theatrical, magical engine and exhaust sounds!!!

I for one am tired of Maserati not having a higher class of dealerships and that is where it falls short but if you can get the price down by dickering then just maybe you can get past these issues!
Two of my favourite cars of all time are the Ghibli and the Bora fro the late 60's's/70's, an era when 300+bhp meant at least 8 cylinders and big capacity with a decent soundtrack👍 It's interesting to see how modern tech is achieving high power from comparatively small engines while hitting ever tightening emission targets, even though they may lack character compared to their forbears. Big colour displays in cars are not my cup of tea I'm afraid and this particular genre of vehicle isn't one that interests me personally although this one does seem to offer a decent alternative for the money compared to the opposition. Why is the clock ticking backwards at 10:10?🤔
It's a Stallantis product, so if anything significant goes wrong outside of warranty, or it has a minor prang, it'll go to the junk yard because of how insane their parts pricing is and how poor their after-market support is. As with so many "luxury" brands these days, they are lease and return - not own - and incredibly bad environmentally.
@@Beer_Dad1975 Leasing is not a protection financially. Might save you the headache but whatever you save in parts pricing you will lose in depreciation because no one wants to buy them until they're discountied 90%.

Stellantis/FCA's 2.0L four cylinder seems to be a pretty solid unit! From what I understand, a Giulia Ti Sport is a sweet spot for that car, thanks to the lighter front end from that smaller engine. I've driven a few Jeep models with it, and it's a perfectly fine unit. That Giorgio platform underpins the Giulia, Stelvio, Grecale, Gran Turismo (M189), and Grand Cherokee WL. Lovely platform.
Stellantis just makes me shudder - they are an horrific corp, most noted for bad customer service, poor Q.C. and over-charging for panels & spare parts to the point where near new cars are often written off due to minor accident damage.

Pretty much all of the e supercharger systems are only for low end response / transient torque fill. The braap sounded very VAG to me. I'm guessing they've used some of the usual industry consultants / service providers to do the setup & tuning.
Hi Harry, another great video which as all the others is so greatly appreciated. I have to say that this Maserati Grecale Modena in the colour you got is a seriously beautiful looking vehicle and which sounds great as you smash the accelerator and it flies up the road. I think the only things that is missing is like you mention in the video, is that magical Maserati sound from starting and the cost issue. Please lets us know if you change your mind though, and/or which Maserati you go for to scratch that Maserati itch. Best regards Jason
I drove this four cylinder version a while back and then the twin turbo V6. That V6 to me in my opinion was completely badass! Totally different characteristics. It felt a lot more playful. Here in the US the one I was looking at after tax was around 126k for the V6 version. Would I pay that having the money to do so? Hell yes! I really like these vehicles.
Expensive shopping trolley, pub car, school run. Like using the battery boost- get rid of turbos. Great that cars like this are being made, but the character is getting ironed out now, they are all 2L vans. Love the video, Harry
I’m really impressed with this car, however, I dislike the Ford puma looking front end and the Mercedes looking rear end, otherwise, great review and would I consider one over the Germans , most definitely yes, but it is definitely Maserati being pushed down the road of this suv design trend. Ultimately, I would still choose a Range Rover for my needs 👍
what are you talking about? Ford probably took inspiration from Maserati in the first place, the front end is a direct inspiration from all the previous models starting with the 200S and the likes of the 4200GT.
I've got the new Macan S with the V6 380bhp and most of the extras the Grecale had for mid £60k's. The engine is silky smooth and has great punch but still returns over 30mpg. It is as Harry mentioned small inside so depends what you need the car to do. For me I'd not spend £80k for a 4 pot no matter what the badge. Always look forward to new vid from Harry on a Sunday afternoon.
Thank you Harry. Do try the Alpina XD3 soon for comparison. Same BHP but 516lb ft (700nm) from a sonorous BMW straight-six diesel with its best-in-class 8-speed ZF box and iDrive comms. More room than the too-ubiquitous Macan; and much rarer. I bought one.
Great car. But there’s certainly a price sticking point. £74K++ to kit it correctly, and only a 4cc. Trofeo would be the ideal, but for that money I’d rather a Levante.. but then it’s more money again. I’m also a big fan of Maserati, very much so. Another great video Harry, I enjoy them all, thank you!
This is like a posh Stelvio Veloce with Alfa Tonale hybrid bits and a more luxurious interior. Stelvio Veloce is much cheaper and has dials for most functions and paddles for auto and manual modes. Plus it looks too much like a Porsche for my liking. I’m v happy with my Stelvio Veloce. For 90k the Alfa Stelvio QV V6 would be a better buy.
TBH the Puma is quite a fun quirky drive with that three cylinder engine, and probably one of the better looking crossover type vehicles around at present. Certainly not up the levels of the Maserati, but definitely cheap thrills.
@@DDd-hr6mzlevantes, understandably they’ve been out dated for some years now with bad reliability hence the big drop in price. nobody wants them. the grecale on the other hand, just gonna have to wait and see in 2-3 years
@@sunnysaenngarm5375 I don't have any reading on the reliability on Levantes, and I really don't trust the surveys. Even if they were stone ax reliable, the stigma of the past will drag them down. Same with Alfa, which is unfortunate.
A nice video. Grecale GT and Grecale Modena are cheap compared to the Macan and Macan T. However, the Macan S with its V6 engine of 380 HP is a bargain compared to the Grecale Modena (German prices).
Harry, nice review. I have also owned several Maseratis. After spending a week with the grecale modena I agree with your statement that it's missing a bit of that charisma. I just replaced my Quattroporte with a levante trofeo. The levante dispite not being a polished as the grecale still has that special sauce, not sure if it's the longer hood, frameless windows of sound of the 590hp Ferrari built v8. It was also way less than the grecale is I picked one up used. You should sample the trofeo products. They a quite different than the modena and GT trims... Love the channel btw.
Do not wish to bash this car too much. It's pretty good for what it is and will hopefully create a cash cow for our beloved brand to then build the pure Maseratis we lust after.
A Maserati that farts like an Audi with a 4cyl engine 😢 Personally I could not live with that screen to control everything & when it breaks you're screwed, car wont work . It looks very generic too, no real stand out qualities just £84k of averageness.
So basically it beats the crap out the competition from Porsche, BMW, Audi and even its bigger brother. Why would anyone buy a Macan or Cayenne, QWhatever when this is on offer? Good work from Maserati - they’re getting their act together
10:09 - Why is the clock going backwards? It shouldn't be a mirror image because the steering wheel is on the right side. Am I watching a video from TENET?😄
Quite like the look of that, bit like my Cayenne actually. Trouble is it cost twice as much (as I paid), has half the engine and no lovely buttons!!! Maserati are producing the goods but will it sell + deprecation?
Rented one on my visit to Rome recently. Quite the beauty I'd say. Mind you it was the GT which is the base model. Would I take this over the BMW X5? If it had more power, maybe.
Great review Harry. I don't really get the whole SUV thing. I understand the higher driving position to get a more commanding view, however, when everyone is driving one then that is neutralised. As for this Maserati, well the name conjures up a great motoring history, however, this SUV looks just like many others on the road today (Macan, CX6 / CX5, etc.). So it's no wonder Masarati feel the need to offer an option of having the name etched into the lights. If you were the owner you'd never find it in the supermarket car park.
Here in Canada, crossover vehicles are now the best sellers. When you have to deal with snow covered roads for several months out of the year, you appreciate the higher ground clearance. A couple of winters ago, a friend ripped the exhaust system off his BMW sedan on a road with impacted snow and ice. Then there's the usable space a crossover affords with 5 doors and a tall boot, great for dogs or whatever cargo you need to carry. Families love them.
Thanks for the review! It looks a lot like a Macan outside. And like a Macan, it's not trying to be a sports car. It's a practical 'sporty' SUV at the upper end of the segment. So in this day and age the four cylinder engine, that works well, is what is needed. Many people who buy this, or a Macan, will have another car, and that's quite likely to be a sports car. It's great Maserati have got this one right, I like them being around and offering something different!
Rav4 prime in top trim is over 70k euros in my country. Rav4! I honestly am not sure if it's just me, I earn good, consider myself mid class but spending over 50k euros for a daily that's absolutely mainstream is out of my mind.
@@JohnyMcNeal I couldn’t agree more with you. The prices have risen over 50% it seems in just a few years which was not obvious if you were taking cheap finance but now interest rates are higher there are no cheap deals to hide these high car prices. Where will it end?
I guess what Harry is thinking is somewhere along the lines of "i kinda like this car but OMG is 84k a lot for a car that will be sold for half in a couple years".
So many lovely colours to choose from and the press car is this grey - that said I like the thing! Looks great, colour aside and it the engine is clever!
Nice piece of kit ❤ I think it looks very Porsche like. If you are concerned about the price tag of a new one just wait and get a 6 month old one, will be worth 50% less 😅

Do the clocks go backwards in all the new Maserati or is it a feature of this model?
Came here to comment the same thing
Later on it ticks clockwise, so I assume he reversed that clip
Where is your Italian sense of passion, man. 😄
It's so fast that it goes back in time
@@danmayberry1185 I guess in the past
Harry at the 10:10 timestamp you can see the clocks second hand was going backwards. Very strange.
7:02 the sound of the closing door is amazing!
Clearly a very lucrative market for luxury brands… pity they’re all prepared to throw away their heritage for the fad
right? It is almost like they are companies with the sole purpose of making money. Crazy
I’m afraid this car leaves me completely cold. I’m probably getting old.
Agreed. “Save the planet; build two and a half tonne four wheel drive blobs.”
Capitalism cares not for heritage! Unless it can exploit it

What a product from Maserati! Beating the market atm. AMAZING!! Thank You for video and review! (Y)
Enjoyed that Harry thanks. Do you have any plans to test the Audi RS6 performance, interested in what your thoughts would be.
I suspect the V6 version would bump his 8/10 rating to a 9 or even a 10.. Really interested to see his thoughts on that one.
@@nailil5722 Still looks like a Ford Puma
I've got the new Macan S with the V6 380bhp and most of the extras the Grecale had for mid £60k's. The engine is silky smooth and has great punch but still returns over 30mpg. It is as Harry mentioned small inside so depends what you need the car to do. For me I'd not spend £80k for a 4 pot no matter what the badge. Always look forward to new vid from Harry on a Sunday afternoon.
I would love to say to the Mrs, I'll take the Maserati dear'. Good review Harry. Your best.
I like that Infotainment display
And it bodes well for long term maintainability, along with the twin charged hybrid drivetrain. Truly a future classic, sure never to depreciate.
@@944play I sense sarcasm....
@@alex_yates Pish tosh! I'm overjoyed that a storied marque is releasing another NPC gray midsize crossover.
Seeing Harry smiling, Grecale must be a driver ´s car.
Referring back to one of your latest videos (Range vs X5), take this over the X5!!!
Maserati really needs to sort out its poor reliability image problem. They make beautiful bodies but have a poor reputation for reliability.
Top tips for when you need to squirt through Cotswold villages to find a better bit of road.
Lovely review. Have to test drive one when the lease is up.
Looks just like a ford puma
I thought exactly the same as you!
Great minds think alike. 😅
I said exactly the same in my comment. What has happened to modern car design? This is just more jelly mould rubbish!
A fat puma, yes.
TBH the Puma is quite a fun quirky drive with that three cylinder engine, and probably one of the better looking crossover type vehicles around at present. Certainly not up the levels of the Maserati, but definitely cheap thrills.
The base car is £10K more than the Macan, it’ll also depreciate on an epic scale. Probably a bargain 2-3 years down the line…..
Yup. I checked out used Levantes recently. Shocking drop in price. Maserati REALLY needs to address this.
I took one out, it was really nice, it’s different and the badge is cool.
A nice video. Grecale GT and Grecale Modena are cheap compared to the Macan and Macan T. However, the Macan S with its V6 engine of 380 HP is a bargain compared to the Grecale Modena (German prices).
all these modes are so useful to optimize the school runs, probably the main use of those things!
Great review. Love the Maserati brand👌🇮🇹🔥
Do not wish to bash this car too much. It's pretty good for what it is and will hopefully create a cash cow for our beloved brand to then build the pure Maseratis we lust after.
I wonder if this model in, say, British Racing Green, would have the impact you are looking for?
10:10 Is this clock ticking backwards? Or is that this famous Italian quality in electronics or is it UK only?
A Maserati that farts like an Audi with a 4cyl engine 😢 Personally I could not live with that screen to control everything & when it breaks you're screwed, car wont work . It looks very generic too, no real stand out qualities just £84k of averageness.
Couldn’t agree more.
I thought those upshift farts were considered cool 😂
You pretty much said what I was thinking! No way I’d part with £84k for a 4 Cylinder either.
Totally agree!
Poor Maserati! If I think that soon they will fart like ... Peugeot...
I feel like crying!!
Your point about the screen describes almost every new car on sale though 😂 - not exactly a downside unique to the grecale
Sounds good, quite like a Golf R with the DSG farts. I've seen them at my local dealers and was put off by the 2.0L "hybrid" engine.
Seems to be a stretched Stelvio (gorgio platform) with electric added to the Giulia/ Stelvio 280 engine... gear change paddles look familiar 😉
You'll find (probably) that your tractor has a similar reverse/drive function, useful for loader work.
+1 .. The very best in the business, Harry's Garage and Harry's Farm. .. I wouldn't miss either one. . Cheers, Colorado 8,150FT
A Maserati SUV. Where have we gone wrong?
what's wrong with that lol times change
This is entirely the fault of the Governments you have elected, these crossovers only exist due to emissions regulations.
Marketing way it's wrong
@@connormatthews522 very bad changes....

Am i missing something, why is the clock going backwards?.

Nice car but I like switches also having your drive modes alll on a screen, what could possibly go wrong?
It's good to see this, there aren't enough large executive SUV's on sale now.
Now all the large executives will be happy.
Harry, if you fancy another Maser, buy yourself a Merak! The sleeper of the decade, and one of my all time favourites. Simples!
that paddle feature would be quite useful to extricate oneself from a snowy or muddy situation
The price of new cars is absolutely ridiculous these days. So many touching £100k is beyond me
Rav4 prime in top trim is over 70k euros in my country.
At around 10:10….why is the second hand on the clock going counterclockwise?
I guess what Harry is thinking is somewhere along the lines of "i kinda like this car but OMG is 84k a lot for a car that will be sold for half in a couple years".
Would have liked to hear how it compares to the Jaguar F Pace?
So many lovely colours to choose from and the press car is this grey - that said I like the thing! Looks great, colour aside and it the engine is clever!
Nice piece of kit ❤ I think it looks very Porsche like. If you are concerned about the price tag of a new one just wait and get a 6 month old one, will be worth 50% less 😅
read my mind, here in the states they depreciate faster than Wiley Coyote falling off a cliff.
It looks very Ford Puma!
I love that the paddles can change the direction from forward to reverse without taking your hands off the wheel. This is F-ing great idea. Congratulations Maserati. Who wants to be looking for buttons in a quick get away?
Lovely looking drivers seat
at 10:09... why is the clock second hand going counter-clockwise???? 🤔🤔🤔🤔
Because Fiat window cranks...
