    Considering the state of the world by the time of fallout 1, the idea that someone eventually reached the level of personal stability to take time to write their memoirs is a huge step towards winning back civilization for the fallout setting.

    I have to say the main two characters that have the saddest endings to a story is “the vault dweller” and “the sole survivor”. The vault dweller is rejected by the overseer after all the heroic deeds he’s done. he’s forced to leave his home. The sole survivor loses everything from his past, including his family. At least there’s a silver lining for both. The vault dweller and the sole Survivor have a new family in the wasteland.

    • @Edithae
      @Edithae 2 ปีที่แล้ว +210

      The vault dwellers fate isn't so bad. Half the population of the vault desert the Vault in protest of his exile and join him in the wasteland where they found the tribal village of Arroyo. The vault Dweller marries one and starts a family.
      The Sole Survivor has it much worse.

      @@Edithae oh yeah that’s a fact. Both characters have the same fate in a way. The silver lining. But still the biggest tragedy is that both characters have to give up air conditioning, clean toilets, and clean showers lol 😂.

    • @Edithae
      @Edithae 2 ปีที่แล้ว +79

      @@Steel-101
      No they literally don't share the same fate. The Vault Dweller does not lose his family, and is not left alone. In fact he inspires his fellow Vault Dwellers to join him, and he literally founds a tribe.
      The Sole Survivor is essentially kidnapped and frozen for 200 years until everybody he knows is long gone, his wife is murdered in front of him and he misses his son's entire life, only reuniting at his son's death bed. But hey, he gets a new dog (to replace the one he lost 200 years ago), a schizo robot sidekick and an obnoxious American Revolutionary LARPER for company I guess...
      I know which one I'd prefer to be.

    • @Steel-101
      @Steel-101 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@Edithae I said “in a way”. They are a bit similar when it comes to rebuilding a new family. That’s what I mean. Both endings for these characters are bitter sweet. Plus they both come from comfortable backgrounds but have to adjust to a very rough lifestyle in the wasteland.

      No vault resident main character in any Fallout game can ever go back. Vault Dweller gets exiled for saving Vault 13, but the Lone Wanderer also was exiled from Vault 101 for saving it. Amata even says something similar to the Vault 13 Overseer. Nate/Nora (Sole Survivor) can go back to Vault 111 anytime they want. My brothers played the OGs when I was a young. The whole world was beyond me then. Looking back on the lore stuff now it's very understanding why Bethesda was excited to pick up the IP and put their twist on things. It brought the story and world of fall out back to the forefront of a whole new generation of gamers who tried it out. But some things in the original will always just hit different and the Master's dialogue has to be up there as one of if not the best writing in the entire series proper. Pretty impressive feat from a fairly old game at this point.

    My favorite aspect of the vault dwellers is how they are lulled/brainwashed into a false sense of security. Their vault could be surrounded by death claws that could easily break the walls (many vaults are placed in open caves) and they have no clue. And if a threat comes, they are totally unprepared, because they have absolutely no information about what goes on outside. Totally isolated. If I lived in a vault, it would drive me insane. I would constantly listen for clicks and bangs, or anything out of the ordinary

      New Vegas was pretty awesome, it felt closer to the Classic Fallout games more than Fallout 3 and 4 did. Makes sense considering that Obsidian has devs that worked on the original Fallout games - they clearly know their stuff. Though personally I love Fallout 3 too because it was my first Fallout game so it's probably nostalgia. Fallout 4 on the other hand felt cartoonish and bright, it didn't feel as dark, gritty and dirty as the previous games so I was a little disappointed in that one, it also didn't feel immersive - it's an OK game.

    Spoliers and Only a theory for the Fallout TV Show:What if Norman gets kicked out of Vault 33 due to the reason of suspension of poisoning prisoners. His punishment would be to receive a new water chip for the fault by leaving. Afterwards, he would find the water chip and possibly team up with his sister, Lucy. Despite, getting a water chip for Vault 33, he will be permeantly banished from Vault 33 and will remain with his sister, Lucy. Ergo, he meets a similar fate like "The Vault Dweller" in Fallout 1.

Our stories were engraved on our memories...all unpleasant....but there were 'moments' that made it all worthwhile. Cheeky banter, insane battle cries, screams of pain or loss....we have all felt it...and we will all feel it again....I would tell you welcome to the wasteland....but you never really left.

    • @Brigand231
      @Brigand231 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      They aged just fine, the issue is that many people joined the franchise with Fallout 3 or New Vegas that aren't isometric or turn-based fans. Rather than accept that those games were made for a different audience, most of those folks falsely claim that the games are bad. Similarly, there're a lot of Fallout fans who think Fallout 3 and after are horrible because they're FPS games. Both are more than allowed to like what they like and avoid what they don't like, but expecting things to be what they're not is plain foolish. That's like a vegan complaining that there's too much meat in a hamburger compared to their veggieburger. Apples and oranges are two different things even if their names might be similar and they both come from a farm.
      I'm a fan of both formats. I cut my modding teeth on Fallout New Vegas and enjoyed the most replayability of any game I've ever played out of it. Of all the Fallout games so far, though, I think Fallout 2 is probably the best in terms of story, content, and what it brings to the franchise; I replay it every year or so and use it as the standard I hold any isometric/turn-based game to.
