I am an artist. I do more sculpture and carving than drawing or painting, but I do dabble in it all. I like your art (at least what I've seen so far) and I have respect, as much as I can from what I can gather from your videos. But I do want to say that watching this "Day in my life as an artist in residence" and in this setting that we seem to share absolutely no common ground experience what-so-ever with this life experience nor would I want to. I was actually shocked as I watched considering a life like that. It is like you, and I are separate species and live in different worlds. Never-the-less it was enlightening. Thank you for the hard work putting out the video.

Good one Christina, nice routine. I don't do any of those things anymore, especially running, but did a lot beginning with my runs through the redwoods and along a completely empty north coast beach, then, when I was an undergrad and grad student at Humbolt State University in Arcadia. Lovely landscapes there too, but I was painting wildlife in the studio then, and later did do plein airs near where you are, in Napa, Mendocino, and Sonoma County. My first plein air competition was in Sonoma, 2002, and did the scenes you were doing, and also along the coast which is awesome.
I like your painting, since as was said by a plein air workshop teacher once that you should work on small panels and use a big brush. In fact, use a brush that feels really uncomfortable in your hand, it saves you from becoming too picky and detail oriented. ;D
Years ago, the PBS did a series of shows called the "Impressions of California", put on by the Irvine Museum which has a great collection of the early Californian painters. Folks interested in that genre should check it out, it was narrated by many folks including Jean Stern the curator of the museum. It is nostalgic and historical to see those beautiful landscape views of California then. Of course, now many are all gone to housing developments, and thus totally destroyed. Cheers. : )

Good morning. As always, thank you for sharing with us. It strikes me, not for the first time, that painting is such a solitary activity. Is it okay to ask what brushes you use? The ends seem wider than a flat or bright. It’s mesmerizing watching you paint. Have a lovely Sunday Christina and viewers!

I had to chuckle. One of the Dieberkorns you showed from the book was sent to me on a get well card from a friend of ours. We keep it on our buffet as inspiration! I also saw one of his works actually hanging in the LA Airport when we were cutting through several years ago.

This is so lovely. Relaxing, beautiful, inspiring. I've been finding the same thing, that having music or something playing in the background is just enough distraction to silence or appease the inner critic. I'm going to take some of this and create my own schedule for being an artist in residence at home! Love your paintings. That large cityscape you're working on is very beautiful.

    That was so cool Christina.
That circle mirror with the reflection of another mirror reminded me of the movie "The Ring". a little bit spooky a guess, lol.
I just have some little advices for you:
If you wake up earlier and go for your run and postpone the coffee and the breakfast to after your run time, this will give you some tremendous changes for the rest of your day.
The other thing is about cleaning brushes. I am giving you a life hack:
take as much as paint as you can off your brushes with a piece of fabric and then use gasoline in a glass and move your brush as fast as you can in that gasoline glass then take it out and immediately dry the gasoline with a piece of fabric from your brush and then move your brush in a glass of water, take them out move them in the air so they get dry and put them aside.
using this method will give you a brand new brush and also your brush will last long for ever! (they are sooo expensive, right??) ;)
that painting you were working on was beautiful!
    I loved it!
    Thanks for this video!

Thanks for sharing this so generously. It .looks like,e it has been a fruitful and deep.y satisfying retreat though that could be me projecting.I've been on writing and meditation retreats but never one where I just painted.Have been trying to find a reasonable residential painting workshop but nothing near by (I'm on the east coast of Canada)is arising.

Your editing is good so even if it takes away from painting just consider it like doing another art form instead of less painting, and you're doing great👏

Christina, I love love love this video! It's so amazing to find out about residencies and to think this one is almost in my backyard. I live in Redding, CA and I'm an artist as well. I definitely will have to try and see about doing this one! Have you looked into the Ghost Ranch(Georgia OKeefe)in Abiqui New Mexico. I go every other year for an artist retreat but have applied for a residency there as well. I had to turn it down due to the timing of it but will try again another time. Love your art!
