    I was looking for these under the name rice fish, I couldn't find any, so thanks for the medaka name. Can you put any into a 1 gallon tank or is that too small? These look way bigger than the rice fish I saw on TH-cam, I thought they were called rice fish because they were the size of rice, literally.

      @Mountain_Aquatics  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad I could help, and I’m glad you enjoyed the video 😊
      I’m not sure about 1 gallon. As always it would depend on too many factors - filtration would be the main issue. Obviously the more water volume you can give any fish is always better. I do know the Japanese keep them in large bowls outside though with plenty of planting so as long as you stock lightly you could be ok.

      I’m looking in to this at the minute, I currently have them in the garage so not outdoors anymore, this video was made before that article came out. Not sure if it’s actually breaking any laws or if it’s just advise

    • @Berniegraph
      @Berniegraph ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Mountain_Aquatics Personally, as a non-scientist, I don't see the problem if they're kept in a tub or enclosed pond, unconnected to a natural body of water. I suppose eggs could be transferred via birds' feet, but so could Goldfish or Koi eggs. Maybe I'm missing something.

    • @Mountain_Aquatics
      @Mountain_Aquatics  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Berniegraph that is what I have been thinking. It all seems aimed at the seller but I haven’t seen anything actually saying I cannot keep them in my garden. There is a lot of scaremongering about Medaka at the moment, which is quite ridiculous. OATA merely sent out a communicae to retailers to remind them that they should advise consumers not to keep them outdoors.
    It is absolutely not illegal to keep them in a pond, bucket, barrel or whatever outside.
    It is to do with the individual shops/wholesalers importing them as aquarium fish under license and then selling them as outdoor/pond fish.
    If someone gifted you some knowning that you are keeping them in a pond, they are not breaking any laws either.
    People, as usual, have completely overreacted to create drama.

    • @Mountain_Aquatics
      @Mountain_Aquatics  ปีที่แล้ว +1
