I think Bulova have revised their accuracy metric to 5 seconds per month. I agree with you, the watches are very underrated. Great video, keep up the work.

Great informative video, yes very underrated & great value for money. The precisionist is a stunning movement in a variety of case styles & models. One of my models has a lower left hand pusher to alternate between running (or not running) seconds hand and chronograph seconds amongst other features fractions of a second subdial etc. Thank you for all the information.

I have a Marine Star 98B301 and I really like it. What I love about Bulova are three things:
    1) They keep excellent time.
    2) They make some great looking watches.
    3) Despite having a really impressive history, Bulova doesn't take advantage of that by charge ridiculous prices. With Bulova you pay for the watch, not the name.

@@TheWatchChannelAU Ironically, the only quartz watch I own, the Lunar Pilot is one of my favorites. The other, is a watch that reminds me of my dad, the Sinatra "Fly Me To The Moon" watch. I love both for their classic throw back styles. Growing up in NY in an Italian family, Sinatra was always playing and my dad was a huge fan.
I do happen to have another Bulova I love, my first one I got maybe 20 years ago, its two tone, tan leather band, the bezel is a gold tachymeter style, with gold hands and a white dial and the rest of the body is stainless. I have no idea what model it is, got it on Ebay from a seller in Italy and its labeled "swiss made" on the bottom of dial and case back and its an automatic. I could never find info on it, but it is a beautiful dressy watch and super thin (5mm). My go to when I am dressing my best.... I also have the Regatta and Wilton models.

I love the reissues of the watch designs for the US military during WW2. I'm purchasing a Bulova hack soon. The incredible history of this brand is awe inspiring and whenever I look fondly on many of the timepieces of the company, I get an almost profound sense of nostalgia for a time in which I've never personally experienced.

Couldn’t agree more… I own a bunch of Bulova and cannot seem to get enough of them lately. I found a 96B012 “Monaco” used for $100 and its incredible… a curved sapphire crystal, built like a tank and kinda rare and unusual. Then I have a High-Beat Accutron II “Lobster” and WOW what a gorgeous everyday diver and also very rare. For dressier occasions I have a Precisionist with alligator strap that just drips classy, also another High-Beat hyper accurate watch. My grandfather was given a Bulova Accutron in the 60’s when retiring from a career on the railroads and that sat in pieces in a ziplock for years. Recently I had this vintage piece totally restored for 25 cents (from a friend who only charged me a quarter) and it sits on display in my watch drawer. Also a great watch but unfortunately due to the rarity of the 1.37V battery it is a display piece. I wear the Lobster almost everyday now and I have over 30 watches! I just cannot get over how solid and sexy and accurate these are. The Rolex guys can keep their watches. I am not interested in a watch that costs 60 TIMES more that is allowed up to 8 seconds a day off…. And costs more than a Bulova just to have a watchmaker open let alone service. Yup, not thanks…

Ive only just started watch collecting this year, and I even just purchased a repair kit and a battery change kit (idk if that was included with the repair kit, but it never hurts to have extra tools). I have a couple Bulovas. I have a Citizen and a Tissot as well. But idk what it is about Bulova, but so far in my searches, they sell some of the most attractive watches out of a lot of what Ive seen so far, and I find myself returning to that brand for my next watch

Yes, I totally agree. I'm not "into" watches as such, I don't have a lot to spend but I like to have a couple of nice watches that are a little bit different and I recently bought a Marine Star 96B382 (basic, not the chrono version), and it's superb. It has the internal rotating bezel which is something not seen very often, and has blue indices on a black dial which isn't a colourway seen very often, so it's really distinctive without looking out of place. I think there was also a white version which also looks amazing. This only came out a couple of years ago for under $400 and now it's available in Europe from a reputable Italian seller on ebay for just over $200 - a crazy bargain. It's no longer on Bulova's own site so must have been discontinued already. There's also a 262kHz Precisionist model available on Amazon for just over $200 (£186 in the UK) which is nuts for that price, and this iconic brand should surely be positioned higher than they are.
But here's the elephant in the room. The final finish, while still good, isn't up there with the top brands and while you wouldn't expect it to be for the price, you would expect Bulova to actually be able to produce a better watch and be able to charge more for it accordingly. I bought a Citizen Oceanus for a similar price and the overall finish and quality is a lot better, and I hate to have to say that because I really like the Bulova brand and it's part of the same group.
I'm not sure their slightly offbeat colourways always help. I love the JetStar and would have bought one, but I don't like any of the colour options. Then there are a large range that have lots of crystals on and around the dial that just look cheap and blingy. They just don't work, and I think they need to make more high quality watches similar to the likes of Longines starting prices and increase the quality, because they have the brand history, one of the most famous and recognisable logos in the business - which doesn't even appear on the dials of some of the range, which again is madness - and the know-how and resources within their group. They're just missing something and need a new direction and a higher quality range that has mass appeal.

I have a Grammy Precisionist and a Catamount Precisionist. They are my favorite two watches, hands-down. I own some very nice automatics, and honestly, while I view automatics to be a technical marvel, they're also annoying AF because I constantly have to set the time on them. Automatics either die because I haven't worn them in a couple days and I forgot to wind them, or they just drift way out of accuracy, so they need to be set again. If you only bother to set your Precisionist once every other month to skip from the 28th to the 1st, your watch will never be more than a few seconds off from atomic time, and they're far more stylish than something like a Wave Ceptor or other radio watch IMO.

Bulova with their accutron quartz are good functional watches, they just needed to get better ideas in the design department. If you go to your local malls in Macy's, Nordstroms, or even jewelry stores, their watches look like overdone invite-ish style watches. What saved Bulova's recognition is the Lunar Pilots and JetStars in recent and today's time

The problem with Bulova is their marketing. Their products are so saturated. They have the history and the technology to compete with the bigger boys, but they did not fully take advantage of that. They need to market themselves as a full-on luxury brand, but at a reasonable price. They need to reinvent their image and products. Discontinue watches that cost $300 and below. How? By improving material choices. Use sapphire crystals on all of their watches. Use ceramic for the edges if applicable. Use real gold and diamonds as accents (lab diamonds are the best). Their entry-level watches should cost no less than $400. Price range for their watches should be from $400 to $2000. Now that's affordable luxury without compromising on quality.

Put a $20 movement in a $30 case and sell it for $400? There's a lot of profit in watch making. Now a days, with Chinese manufacturing, you are only paying a premium for the name on the watch, not the actual parts. Sure, fit and finish can vary between maker. Some very inexpensive watches look very nice and have the same movements as luxury name brands. Want to tell time accurately? Just look at your cell phone; everyone on the planet has one. Watches are just jewelry, fashion statements or conversation pieces. Cheers!

The Bulova website pictures suck ... looks like AI pics with no life, no shine, no depth. Polished surfaces are flat color and descriptions of colors are basic . My Mariner Star is described as blue, but it is an azure sky blue that gradually fades to a dark blue at the outer edges of the dial with a pearl like reflection ... why is the website so plain! marketing needs step it up !!!

Of course today, despite their illustrious history, Bulova is just a name on a dial, owned by Citizen, produced in China with movements from Miyota but that's just the way the industry is today. At the price range they compete in they are on par and even better than the many of the competition. The Precisionist gives you some of the most sophisticated quartz technology this side of a Grand Seiko and can be had for well under a grand. That's just insane value for money. Again it's a Miyota movement but because it's Bulova's trademark proprietary unit, they don't sell it to anyone else. Seiko were always my favourite brand but in recent months Bulova have taken over. I just wish they'd make more watches in smaller case sizes, with less garish designs, like the Jet Star reissue, which I've recently bought. More like that please Bulova
