What a fantastic vocalist, singer, and musician! I remember reading an interview by him from a few years ago where he said he left a high-paying corporate job in order to sing for Tesseract. He said he now makes so little money (unfortunately) compared to his corporate job but that he'd rather make way less money doing music-something that he loves-than what he was doing before. Seems like a really cool guy 👍

@@petarpavasovic6333 well, dan has much less trouble with pitch, mostly because his technique is much more refined and proper than Mike Lessard's. They're probably my two favorite vocalists, but Mike has his own unique way of singing that slightly sacrificed technique for tone. Also, Dan is extremely healthy and that really contributes to the quality of his voice. Don't know if he does anymore, but back in 2015 I encountered Mike after their show and he was smoking a cigarette, which is very restricting to your vocal chords.
Big fan of Dan and Tesseract here. Loved seeing this :) But why isn't his channel linked in the description though? Gotta give the man props y'know? I'm already subscribed to him but still feel it should be there :p
I think taking the high harmony from the chorus and using it as the main in the last chorus would really help carry the energy of the last line in the bridge.
Man... this is honestly so inspiring. As a longtime covers vocalist who has such massive anxiety about writing my own songs, seeing the actual process and how SURPRISE songs often aren't written all at once, it's a big help, especially hearing someone with a similar more melodic vocal style in a scene engulfed in fry vocals and growls! Messenger and Seven Names are my personal favourites, Dystopia is just madness from start to end and one of the best. Utopia is really atmospheric and eery, tourniquet is heartbreakingly beautiful and haunting, cages is great as it is constantly building and building and pays off big time and Pheonix is just pure class. From beginning to end. Controversial here, but survival seems to be a fan favourite but to me it does sound very generic and boring. Very nice. Funny thing, i'm a logic user as well, and i've always wondered why the waveform is so thin when recording audio tracks. It's really annoying. But as long as you have the track scrolled enough down it works haha.
What technique is he using when he groups all the tracks into one channel at 7:43? and all the takes keep being recorded and thrown down to a sub channel. What's that called? Is it possible to do it in Studio one?
It's called bussing or grouping and it's absolutely possible in Studio One! You can record all the tracks separately (individual tracks), then select them all and right click - pack folder! Do the same in the mix window (select all the faders you want to route to the bus) and right click - add bus for selected tracks. You can then assign the bus to the group folder via the wee dropdown selector on the folder and voila, you've got yourself a fully controllable group of individual tracks that act as one cohesive unit!
