    Somebody help me here. Why was Foreman allowed any time to recover from his knee injury?
    It was not the result of a foul. That is tough luck for foreman and he either needs to be able to fight right away or quit. Mercante should have never been allowed to ref a fight again. He obviously had an interest in Foreman winning that fight.

    • @langhamp8912
      @langhamp8912 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Because most knee injuries are from the collision of two fighters stepping into each other and banging knees. So if it's from banging knees, you see if the fighters can recover as no one wants to see the fight stopped from accidental knees. Most of the time a banged knee is harmless even though it hurts a lot; you give the fighter time to recover and if it wasn't from banged knees then the fight is indeed stopped as you say.

    • @wanderer5438
      @wanderer5438 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@langhamp8912Yes, but for it to be counted as a foul the referee has to spot the foul and call it on the spot. In a situation like this, where a fighter is downed mid round, and very clearly not directly from a foul, the ref has no right to give the fighter time to recover. If the fighter cannot continue, it's a TKO. That's even the case if an accidental knee hit two rounds earlier was the initial reason for the later problems but wasn't called.

    • @langhamp8912
      @langhamp8912 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@wanderer5438 This isn't the first time Cotto has fought an opponent with a severe knee injury going into the fight. The Cotto vs Martinez fight had a very similar look and feel to this one (both opponents wore knee braces). That is, the doctors of the respective organizations should have examined the fighters before the fight then called it off.

    • @wanderer5438
      @wanderer5438 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@langhamp8912 you're right, of course. A boxer with a knee in such a bad state has no bussiness in the ring, their corner should have cancelled/postponed the fight. But of course that means giving up a big paycheck and sometimes the chance for a "big break" for a fighter, so many boxers will ignore serious injuries and just... hope for the best.

    The towel comes in for a reason! It’s not up to the referee whether the fight should keep going! If the towel comes in they have given up and the fight is over simple as that and any referee that throws a towel back out of the ring should never referee again in my opinion

    • @michaelk8642

      BINGO! The corner knows the fighter better than any referee and if the corner thinks it's unwise to continue based on what they are seeing of their fighter, then that's the decision and a referee should have no say. Frankly, it's all about giving the fans and PPV what they want, and lining the pockets of the boxing organization, which is pretty fucking pathetic if in doing so a fighter's life is on the line.

      @@bonitamc7097 That's my point, though. Just because it's a rule doesn't mean that it's a good rule. The ref should NEVER be able to override a towel being thrown from the corner unless under very rare circumstances.

    Martinez should've been disqualified AND he should not have gotten an another title shot.

    A lot of the time the towel doesn’t mean anything. Anyone in the audience can throw in a towel. So the red most of the time want to see the chief second on the apron and wave it off. Throwing in the towel is more of a figure of speech than anything. Mostly seen in movies and other media.

      That's no good if your fighter is being whooped in a different corner,ref won't see you in the apron and won't hear you over crowd obviously

      @@geedee1264 I’m not advocating for it. I’m just stating the rule. Anyone can have a towel in the audience. Some fights even sell white towels as merch. Anyone can throw a towel into the ring

    Ah yeah easy, best stoppage was Mike Tyson getting a taste of Holyfield's ear. Straight cannibalism in the ring.
    We have to stop this fight because of cannibalism. One fighter ate human flesh on camera, two times. A record that will hopefully never be repeated.
    If Mike said after the match, "I started getting stronger when I got a taste of him," the whole sport could have detonated.
    What would be really cool because he is such a fantastic human being, is seeing Mike Tyson do a Who Do You Think You Are ancestry show where they really dig in with respect and honesty. The episode with Emmitt Smith was emotionally devastating.

    What right does any referee have to overrule the corner that throws in the towel!?
    The corner knows the fighter, they protect the fighter. The ref should also protect the fighter. Bodyshots will cause a fighter to drop hands leaving them open to headshots. Fucking moronic excuse from the ref. As soon as the ref threw the towel out, the whole corner should have jumped in the ring and stopped the fight.
