Great video Paul...thanks! I agree...they should do a CD version of this box...and the Christmas messages too. I like your line "holding the music in your hands"...that's how it should always be...good job...

The Please Please Me single was Number 1 on all of the charts except "record retailer" which, in 1977 became the official chart authority. When please please me came out there were several "official" charts, including the BBC, who were considered, at the time, THE official authority auditing the charts and if, in those days, you were recorded as the number 1 single in the chart, by the BBC then you were the number 1 single. The other charts were NME, Melody Maker, Pick of the pops (BBC) and some other music industry papers where the single was number 1. Since Record Retailer were the only one out of those charts to list Please plaese me at number 2 and, becoming the recognised authority for the charts in 1977, the Beatles single was retrospectively demoted to being a number 2 record when in fact it had been a number 1 and treated as such at the time.

I see the McCartney-Lennon credit is on the From Me To You single. I assume Thank You Girl has it too. I think the Please Please Me single also has it on both sides.

Wasn't THAT big a surprise that Something only got to number 4 in the UK charts, it was released 10 days after Abbey Road, a highly anticipated album and bought immediately by fans who then didn't see the need to buy two songs they already had. Now if there had been a different B side it might have got higher.

Amazing single but it would of sold more if released before abbey road

With the first two singles, it's easy to explain how both sides of the singles ended up on the album: they were added after the rest of the album was recorded. (And The UK never got the single of "The Long And Winding Road"/"For You Blue"?)

Btw, "Hey Jude" on the Parlophone lable was released in Ireland, not on the new Apple Lable at the time!

Can anyone here tell if the "Ask Me Why" version of this box is really the ORIGINAL version of the single released on January 11, 1963, or is it the same version contained on the album "Please Please ME" (mono)?
So far EMI has never relaunched this version on vinyl or CD.

So the off centre bordering and very loose inner drawer which looks too short compared to the height of the box are genuine and not fake?

I’ve heard that the quality on these sucked. The vinyl quality and the sound quality.

Yeah, just read on Analogue Planet that "The new box sounds dry, flat and boring" and "To say I'm disappointed with the sound is an understatement. It's as weak as the packaging is strong. As a souvenir or attractive shelf item this set gets an 11. As something you'd want to play it gets a 5: middling."
I freely admit that mine won't get played much, if at all, and see it mainly as a cool looking collectable.

Thanks Paul, they are pretty, but since I've got the mono vinyl boxset.and a few singles I won't be picking this up.if I was a DJ however, that might be a different matter, I love the sleeves though, as a variant of the UK stuff

@@andrewskivington6453 don’t pay any attention to audiophile bores who describe vinyl sounding dry and flat🙄...another way he described it was sounding cardboardy!!...whatever that means. I’ve played them all in order...it was a fabulous couple of hours and they sound perfectly fine.

I'm going to lobby Capitol Records for them to finslly release a Capitol Records only release of all the American Singles in their original glossy picture sleeves from "I Want To Hold Your Hand b/w I Saw Her Standing There to the Lady Madonna b/w The Inner Light Single which was released on March 18,1968.

    • @georgeprice4212
      @georgeprice4212 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

Then you’d have to include the Apple singles as well, since Capitol was the American distributor (except for the Two Virgins Volume 1 album, which was distributed by the Tetragrammaton label).

    • @raulmacias6146

@@georgeprice4212 The majority of those Apple singles did not come with picture sleeves.
One of them that did is the "The Ballad Of John And Yoko" Single with that pariah Yoko Ono sitting there with a creepy looking John!
I can't believe George consented to be photographed with Yoko Ono for a Capitol Records picture sleeve.
I want it to be strictly "Capitol" Singles.
Ironically, the picture sleeve of the Lady Madonna single was taken on February 11,1968 while The Beatles were recording "Hey Bulldog" which would be the last time The Beatles had fun in the studio before John began bringing Ono to the studio!

This box set has more personality than most other box set, no idea where you got that information from.the box in itself is HIGHLY recognisabe🤔
The B&W Hard days night photo which you omitted is from the film. Not a good review!
Where did you get the info that John competed with Paul for A sides???
Your information on first single 'not to get (immediately) to no.1"
where did you get that information, because its wrong!
    Boring beyond belief!
