11:03 As there were originally only 10,000 made, surely they could've numbered the box sets 00,0001-10,000 by embossing the front cover of each 'White Album'? Missed a trick for the collectors there! I found a site a few years back that listed all the differences between the mono and stereo albums of The Beatles. Fortunately I printed them all off so if anyone has any questions about differences on any particular albums fire away and I'll answer them here! Thanks Paul and SDE for another great review. Just wish I had the funds to have afforded to have bought it back in 2009. The Japanese mono cd's were available individually in 1998. I have a few of them. Cheers.
The 10,000 was only for like a month or two I think. Pre-orders approached that number so quickly, they decided to produce more starting December of that same year. And I don't know when they stopped printing more. If you're careful you can still get them for a reasonable price. Ironically, the Mono vinyls from 2014 (more recent) are already out of print! But the CD is still easily available. Lots of fakes on the market, though. I'm glad I got mine (legit) years ago. :D
This box set was so well-designed that I built a matching box set for the stereo digisleeves. Took a few months to reverse-engineer without dismantling the original box but it was well worth it.
I purchased the original Mono Box Set from Japan with the OBI. What a box set. I was very fortunate get that set. Unfortunately, when the vinyl Mono set was released, I missed out on the set. Maybe one day they will re-release that set.
HOWARD WEBER says - Just to remind everyone, on the original stereo Capitol MMT album, the last 3 songs on side 2 were not in stereo. Also, the problem with only having the mono box is you`re missing a lot of the Capitol mono mixes such as- I`ll cry instead - Any time at all - When I get home - And I love her from the mono Something New album and the same with the mono Yesterday and today album.
Thanks for doing these unboxings Paul. Great to see box sets I missed out on or couldn't afford at the time. Also loving your report in Germany you did a few years back. Keep them coming.
I was very fortunate enough to get the Beatles stereo and mono box that’s at the same time I love both of them especially the amount of boxes because they have very wonderful and unique mixes especially the longer fade outs on got to get you into my life love you too and all you need is love. I love the mono box sets they’re fantastic that mono CD box set from 2009 is just great I’m glad that Apple Records decided to release both of them in 9909 I bought them a year after they were released. I bought them at my favorite music store Music Millennium in Portland Oregon and I’m so glad I did everything about the packaging is fantastic in the mono box that from the little booklets to the reproduction in our sleeves and I love the LP cover aspect which I think is the way that CD album cover should be in.
Hi Paul . Thanks for the nice look back at the Mono box. A great collectible. If I’m not mistaken the Sgt. Pepper mono CD was also included in the Super Deluxe 50th anniversary box set.
this boxset would have been completely redundant if they did what the beach boys did and simply put both mixes on the cds They would all fit, with the obvious exception of the White Album
I wish a 50th anniversery of Rubber Soul, Revolver and Let it Be would be released but they have only done Sgt. Pepper's, The White Album and Abbey Road.
There are super deluxe additions of revolver let it be Abby road but not for the rubber soul box set yet which I believe is coming up next after the Beatles wonderful red and blue albums both on CD and vinyl If you’re looking to get the let it be and revolver sets they are available no let it be a box that was supposed to come out in 2020 but due to Covid with a horrible plan Demic or whenever it got delayed it was released in 2021 and the revolver CD set and I’ll piece that’s what released in 2022 The interesting thing about the let it be and that revolver deluxe that says that Apple records seem to have followed the EP or extended play format with four songs on the last disc I decided to buy the revolver deluxe box set because it had any pee I never had any pee before that was great and revolver is one of the best albums of the Beatles ever made along with everything else
I’ve got a fabulous collection of CD Promo Boxes full of CD’s from various groups including every Queen album art with drawers. Some of them cost a fortune relatively speaking for essentially cardboard boxes! The Yes ‘Relayer’ one cost me over £100.00 and is is my second favourite box (after the Queen II box because that cover is my iconic pick and my fave album of all time).
Actually it’s missing only 2 albums “Let It Be” and “Abbey Road” the mono versions of the 4 exclusive “Yellow Submarine” song are on the “Mono Masters”…

I've gotta get those Japanese mini mono cds of the last 3 albums, or are those just stereo versions? Either way, I must get them to fit into my mono box!
Hello, this beatles in mono box set is fantastic, the sound is very enjoyable, personally I like the sound of the monographic disco in stereo, although the stereo version is the best known, congratulations on this box set. greetings from Mexico
I still have my original American pressing of Let It Be, and the label on side one features a RED apple. Was that the case in the UK? I ask because the Japanese CD you show has the standard green apple.
The UK version of Let It Be is on the normal green label i believe, the only two albums released on the red apple were the US version of Let It Be and Blast From Your Past the Ringo collection.
I'm sorry but did he call the wax paper sleeves the CDs are stored in, rice paper? Rice paper is for food not physical media because rice paper rots over time.
I have to say that I not only like mono more for many tracks but the American release of ‘I’m Looking Through You’ with the “false start” is far superior to the way it was released on the official UK LPs. I grew up with the American albums so when I heard the UK version I had to start it over a few times thinking there’s something wrong. The song just doesn’t sound the same without it to me.
Since the release of 090909 I am still quite happy with my mono box and love it for all the pros and cons. Unfortunately, listening carefully with headphones and conducting comparative studies, I find more and more flaws. Although the packaging is beautiful, what, of course, is important, the 090909 sound obviously is not for audiophiles as it was advertised. Overall, the 090909 edition is far from the best. Let`s face it at last. How to get on with that? Easily. The best stereo for early albums can be found in US Capitol boxes 2004-2006 and UK stereo 1987 cd box (later albums). The best mono for early albums can be found in UK stereo 1987 cd box and EP cd 1992 box. Pepper, White Album, Revolver, Rubber Soul from 090909 mono box ain`t bad too. However, If I could buy newly made remixes in cheaper editions instead, I would ignore it altogether and saved some money. The main reason I don’t regret buying a mono box is that I collect mini vinyl CDs. If not for this circumstance, it would be best to just download everything you need in mono and buy a new stereo. I don't think the remixed albums are perfect, they have a lot of absurdities and illogicals, but if you need to stop at something, this is the way.
