You have simply revolutionized the way I play guitar. I saw this lesson a couple years ago and put the time in to learn it.
    It HAS changed my life.
It HAS made my world a better place at the very least.
    Thank you so much!!!!
I went on to learn Shiloh Town, a cover By
Mark Lanegan. Such a fun song to play.

Hi Steve, I feel excited at this new way. Many thanks! Just a question: When my thumb hits the 1st string (low E), do the next three fingers also brush down the 2nd, 3rd etc. strings? Then does my index finger pick the 4th string up as the end of the movement (E maj chord)?

*Great video! Besides guitar, I also play bass, and I use a variation of the clawhammer technique while playing bass. While I use other techniques, such as slap n' pop, plectrum, etc..., my main technique is to anchor my thumb on the side of the neck, pickup, or thumb rest, and to use my 1st, 2nd, & 3rd fingers to play fingerstyle, while adding thumb slaps and finger pops in as might be needed, but also throwing in the aforementioned clawhammer variation... For example..., I could be doing a fairly standard one note at a time bassline in the lower registers, but adding accent chords and melodies in the higher registers by frailing the strings clawhammer style... It's a really great contrast, as you have the deeper darker more rounded traditional tone of the pads of your fingers for the standard bassline on the bottom, but when you hit those high melodies and chords, you get the contrasting brightness of your fingernails, adding a plectrum like clarity and articulation as well, so you not only have a low register/high register counterpoint thing going, you also have a darker/brighter counterpoint thing going as well..., and with your picking hand in the clawhammer "claw" shape, your thumb is perfectly positioned for thumb slapping the low strings, and your fingertips are perfectly positioned to reach under the strings to pop them... And at any time, you can instantly re-anchor your thumbtip and straighten out your fingers for the traditional fingerstyle bass technique...*

That's so true many hours I've tried to learn from different women and other men players but I think you teach the best I don't know what it is that you can't see their hands as well as you can yours on the movement that is what I like so I do play a banjo ukulele and a guitar acoustic but I don't know about the the hamstrumming I still got to practice that I'm an old woman old woman

I don't think it's a British thing, calling other styles 'Clawhammer' by mistake. I've seen loads of Americans do it too.
I've always understood that Merle Travis only picked with his thumb & first finger, meaning what you (& many others) call 'Travis Picking' is also a mistake.
I would call what you did there to demonstrate 'Fingerstyle', rather than 'Travis Picking', tho' I'm aware these techniques can evolve & blend into each other somewhat.
That said, cheers for the upload, there's some good info in there!
