i cant pretend ive ever noticed these issues in the show. nine club to me comes across as just a group of dudes that like skating and hearing stories about it from guests. that alone has been enough interest from me to watch about 100 episodes. repetitive? sure... but the guests are interesting enough. the point about how they dont even make great money off it reinforces this feel.
I love their talks with skaters and industry people. Jamie Thomas, Mike Vallely, Jason Lee, and Jacob Rosenberg are standouts to me. Sometimes you want to watch something non toxic that isnt centered on ridiculous internet drama.
People are trying to make the show what they want it to be, it is not, is what Chris and the crew want it to be. Is a show about people talking to other people they liked or find interesting, with their own vibe. If you want it to be challenging or controversial you are drinking milk expecting that it tastes like orange juice.
They contradict themselves often by agreeing to the opposite side of the opinion with other skaters. Hella people just hate like crazy in the comments so they try to avoid any type of hate possible lol...
@@nancypelosi480 I agree, the older episodes felt more organic and natural. I've been watching/listening to the nine club since 2017 and it's pretty easy to see what I'm talking about when you've been tuning in long enough
@@mattmattga there's several skate podcasts already, Nine Club is just the "most known" one. I'm personally a big fan of "The Bunt", they do a great job while also being able to talk some shit and give unfiltered opinions and mess around a lot
This has been my only criticism of the show over the years. They are all so scared of saying something that may be taken the wrong way or deemed controversial so they just agree with everything.
At first they would joke around and bust balls but that only lasted a short while.. Jimmy Fallon no longer needs to press a button, Chris has forgotten what sarcasm is. It had so much potential
Its a damn disney show pretty much. Half the time Crob just looks like he's so disinterested in his guests too. I can think of like at least 20 skaters who would be more interesting and better hosts.
but even just bros should have an opinion. Like, I can watch every episode and I wouldn't know anymore about the panelists than I did before. It's fake.
Love the 9 club. They sit back, listen and let the person tell things from their point of view or simply just spew their opinion. Which in itself starts conversation. Everything doesn’t needs to be debated or intellectual. They literally just go with the flow. There are place’s and channels dedicated to that type of shit. Live and let live. ✌️
Agreed. I actually respect them for their approach. The mission statement of their podcast more or less is to “celebrate skateboarding .” and this is exactly what they do. Controversy is like a cheap sugar high, but if that’s what you want there are 1 million other places to get that. I hope they just keep doing what they’ve been doing
I would rather the nine club keep its formula opposed to getting views for people that have nothing to do with skateboarding. It’s a skateboarding podcast, not everything is about generating more views and monetary gain to appeal to an audience not tied to a podcast about skateboarding.
My dude dumbdata putting some actual content with substance out. Love this channel and the direction you’re steering into. Filling a void for sure, please keep up the good work.
substance? The nine club had a guest on. That some of you did not like. So dumbdata spends probably DAYS researching into the guest and then pinning that stuff on the nine club? Lol pathetic substance. Don't like a guest? Dont fuckn watch the episode you quack.
listen, I love the nine club but Crobs interviewing skills need some work. I'm not sure if he get disinterested or it's a little social anxiety but it seems like if the guest is not a natural extrovert the conversation gets derailed and even a little cringe. I'm only saying this out of love, I want NC to thrive.
I didn't perceive that as a serious critique, but more of a nod to the Gifted Hater, who like Dumb Data, is creating more interesting skateboard content in 2022 than the big name podcasts like Nine Club.
Gifted Hater comments on Elijah Berle for taking two weeks to respond to Austyn Gillette, and Dumb Data comments on how two weeks have passed since he responded to Gifted Hater.
Dude you guys need to chill seriously. The nine club is a great episode wit 500+ episodes and you guys are hating because of 2 episodes.. I am a huge fan of these guys because of them I was able to learn so much about my favorite skaters, see how they act and speak, all the great behind the scene storys and much more.. Thank you nine club for that!!!! You guys should all be more thankful for what you have and get and not just hate because you can in the internet!!!! thank you hope you all have a great day
As long as I can learn more about my favourite skaters I’m happy. I agree Crob should do a bit of research though, that’s how you get deeper interviews. Good video Dumb Data.
The Nine Club is literally just friends interviewing friends though. I don't know why anyone would expect them to not be nice. They've skated with damn near everyone they interviewed
I hope the Nine Club keeps doing this for the core skateboard fans instead of the growth of the podcast. Growth means death of what it was meant to be. Skateboarding is a lifestyle not a marketing growth opportunity.
Agreed, the 9 has a lane and they know it. This is a long term project and I believe people are acknowledging them and their lane. He shows up nervous so just talked about what he can talk about… their craft. I did not listen all the way through once I found out Gary didn’t skate, but said streetwear hella. Still the acknowledgment is positive.
but "lifestyle" & "marketing growth opportunity" are pretty synonymous at this point in the industry. just look at all the clothing, branding/corporate sponsorships, contests, etc... & the olympics, for fucks sake! skateboarding is all about growth, for better or for worse. if it wasn't everyone would still be doing slalom, downhill & wheelies & mimicking surfer styles & fashion. growth is inherent in all things. the 9 Club can't please everybody. goes the same for bands that don't continue to make the same record again & again, thus pissing off part of their fanbase that want them to keep doing the same thing they fell in love with them over. i do agree that some interviews could benefit from Rob & crew digging deeper or changing their line of questioning, but people are gonna complain whether they keep it formulaic or try branching out. sure, i don't enjoy every episode, but if they ended the podcast i'd be bummed. i feel like MOST people have at least a few interesting things to say. (aside from gary vee) at the end of the day , i watch the episodes i think i'll be interested in the most & usually i enjoy at least part of them.
@@cygmusmandulis7533 that's it. you enjoy more if it pokes your interest, maintains a certain level of curiosity, relevant to consume content. for us, there are tons of intellectuals debacle podcasts, and nine club are one of podcasts that we got to sit down and just chill romanticizing about how fun skateboarding is.
Real skaters appreciate skating no matter what and people that gate keep and judge people because they aren’t on the same caliber have lost the real meaning in skateboarding
I didn’t even know who Gary V was. I usually don’t check out Nine Club episodes unless I know who the guest is. These capitalism bro personalities are already toxic in skating (see Dyrdek) they really don’t need to be bringing in more douchebags
I feel like ever since Gifted Hater pointed out how positive they are about everything, more people have started hating on The Nine Club. The podcast is pretty good and they don’t have to be critics or anything, they’re just chilling
This is the problem with Skate Culture I noticed growing. It has this "hippy" and "peace and love" attitude. That we are all bros, nothing is wrong, he's sick, she's sick, he's rad, she's rad, we are all rad. Skateboarding is about expression and everything is good blah, blah, blah. This is what is called Toxic Positivity. That everything is good and nothing is wrong so you just end up agreeing with everything. The problem is when that happens, there is no sense of conviction. Nothing is challenged. And when nothing is challenged, you don't grow. Which is funny, because skateboarding is all about challenges and that helps you grow. It's a brutal activity. Yet, it has this stoner hippy culture that doesn't want to challenge anything. Which I don't blame them, most pro skaters never finished high school so they don't have that capability of deep thought. Of challenging the industry and arising different challenging questions. This niceness needs to stop and be more objective on things. It's good sometimes but if that's all you do, you're boring. You're the "nice guy." Who wants that?
Weird, that's not at all what I experienced in the late 90s on, I was the odd one out cause I wished more girls would skate. Now I'm the odd one out cause I think someone going pro cause they can switch flip a 3 stair and have a vagina is ridiculous or that a trans person is likely going to have an advantage competing against natural women.. You either have to be one extreme or the other to have a community these days EDIT: misread the beginning n thought it said growing up.
Another point is that skate moss prick, reposted some old Facebook post of hers complaining about women being judged at skateparks because of what they wear.. She goes to a skatepark looking like it's a runway show, teenage boys look at the obvious fish out of water and she has a hissy fit that teenage boys think the attractive "model" is an odd site at the skatepark.. Meanwhile as a dude I constantly got crapped on for what I wore at the park.. And anywhere else cause torn up skate punk isn't what many people wanna see.. I wonder what that bitch would post if she dealt with all the randoms screaming that they hoped I broke my arm or leg when jumping down a set or people trying to knock me off my board.. Or the multiple times people threatened to murder me.. Skaters were always 50% pussies but now instead of trying to fight you cause you didn't think they actually tre flipped an 8 when they can't even throw the flip properly, they're whining on twitter..
I love the nine club, they did drop the ball on the Gator thing but the guys seem to have little knowledge about skateboarding prior to the 1990's. They just seem like a great bunch of guys that want to talk and love skateboarding. Even with the best of intentions it's almost impossible to not have a few fuck ups considering the staggering amount of content they have put out.
How did they drop the ball though? They had someone on that talked about an incident that happened when they were just little kids. Are they expected to have known all the ins and outs of Gator's murder before having Mark Oblow on the show? There's this big push on the Internet too get angry at every host who just lets the guest talk and I think that's ridiculous. The person gets to see what they say, and then get called out on it on social media if people think they are full of it. That's a perfect system. It's not a bug, it's a feature. Podcast hosts are not supposed to play judge jury and executioner because they aren't always experts in the particulars of the subject. That's why they have guests.
@@jasondashney they dropped the ball by having no knowledge on this. There is a great documentary called the rise and fall of gator about it. I love the show and the guys seem so cool but I have noticed that they have put in little work in learning about skateboarding from before they're era. The gator thing is so well known in skateboarding that I think it's why people got so upset
@@DanHovington You're angry at them for lacking intimate historical knowledge about someone who wasn't even on the show? That's a pretty high standard. Everyone knew the Gator thing happened but not everyone should be expected to know the details of the case, especially when it happened when they were little kids. Dude, these guys aren't even clear about which videos they were personally in, let alone what Gator did decades ago. Chris will ask "Was Questionable before Virtual Reality" and I'm like yeah, the video your personal friends starred in. Yes, yes it was. If they get confused about that, you gotta cut them some slack. Cheers.
@@jasondashney Not angry at all, I pointed out the fact that these guys seem to have very little knowledge about skateboarding prior to mid 90's skateboarding. I do wish they would have more interest in skateboarding history prior to that period. I still love the show and think that they all seem like great guys that I would love to hang out with
@@DanHovington history just doesn't seem to be a thing in skateboarding. I live in a Vancouver suburb and I was telling a skateboarder that Mike Hastie lives right near him and he's like "Who?". This kid is in his 20's and started skateboarding when Mike was still pro for Darkstar and the town they live in is very small. Kids don't even know about their own communities history let alone the larger picture. The number of kids these days that have never heard of Jeremy Wray blows my mind, never mind Gator haha.
The 9 club never claimed to be investigative reporters. They give famous skateboarders/industry folk (mostly) a place to share their story. It may be accurate or inaccurate, but it's specifically NOT a confrontational integration and I hope it stays that way.
They don’t need to be “investigative reporters” if they’re just normal folks having a conversation, but they’re actively giving a platform to people who are spreading potentially dangerous or hurtful misinformation on THEIR show. At some point they need to take accountability and be able to stand up to a guest who’s flagrantly using their platform to sell bullshit or rewrite a dark past. Also, dumbdata is just giving suggestions here based off of *data* as to how they can survive the always shifting attention span of a viewing audience. I get that you like the nine club for what it is and has been, but there’s no denying it’s gotten stale and is borderline pandering to bullshit in order to remain afloat.
no. putting non-skaters/people who have nothing to do with skating on the nine club is a dumb idea. I don't know if you skate or not, but hearing each skaters view about the same thing or hearing stories about legendary or maybe random days in skateboarding history, is why a skater watches/listens to the nine club. as soon as you introduce outsiders, it becomes just another podcast, about which I frankly don't give a damn. I also love that it's not just another BS drama channel, like so many out there. it's for people who like to listen to skateboarding related stories, not for low-lifes who want to see people doing worse than themselves, to feel a little better >.
I like the nine club, i have fun whenever i see it.... Maybe you prefer the agressive ironic kind of tv shows, then why you watch the nine club? , you seem to know a lot of this program....
I have a feeling GaryV is on downfall and now is going anywhere that he think he still didnt scam anyone. anyone who thinks I am bsing plz explain me how I am wrong, I am open to that, but plz dont come with empty msg just saying how gary v. is great
At the very least he needs to chime in more with his knowledge. I know he doesn't want to be on camera, but he's got so much insight and random facts to offer all the time during conversations.
i dont disagree at all. he has so much info about so much. but i still think dubs was the best choice if roger isnt there, but still in the background though.
@@rodrigoorozco9263 he chose to be off screen, but help run production off screen. you still hear him there giving thoughts about stuff. hes just not in the lime light as it were. runs cameras and such, which is what he really likes i suppose. hes still a large part of the show, just back stage. it was his choice, and a respectable one.
They *lost* me with the Gary Vee episode, I just think its just so fucked Btw Dumb Data, you're fucking KILLING IT right now, I love all your content including these thinkpieces because your analysis is always so characteristically rigorous
that episode isnt for everyone i didnt like it either so i didnt watch about 40 mins in i stopped and ill just wait tell the next guest comes out im still waiting for koston penney and other dudes i bet when they get some guys like that on you'll be happy ?
For real, while there is a lot of hustle and grind needed to get good on a board, Gary Vee's mentality is just dogshit bad and doesn't match anything skaters are about.
@@stratfender89 well that's odd some people in the comments of the episode where happy to see that episode and I bet they probably skateboard I'm personally not a fan of him after learning what he's about so I stopped watching and just waiting for next week's episode
I'm sure there are. I'm just saying from all the skaters I've rode with throughout the years, I haven't met any who have taken on the Gary Vee mindset.
It’s worth noting that a show where people just chop it up with each other and a show that documents the oral history of skateboarding are two very different ideas. The nine are clearly more comfortable being the former, but they also clearly don’t mind if people confuse them for being the ladder, which then creates expectations they wont fulfill.
They talk about older skateboarding. Lots of 90s stuff. Skateboarding was better then, it's horrible now. All about, look at me, look at my tricks I landed, that took months. Think of this, we would go skateboarding for months, years, without filming a thing. At a time when history in skateboarding was happening, we still weren't thinking of self promotion. It was always about raw progressive skateboarding.
Professional skateboarding has been about self promotion and showing off the new tricks you landed since it first became pupular (probably before your time). Casual skating hasn't changed at all and you're just stuck in the past. Go with the times old man. Embrace the future
I would love to get with the times but I destroyed 3 discs in my back age 30. This was 15 years ago, and is probably why I am bitter and twisted lol. I was devastated, I loved it, could hold my own down skatepark and would defo still be skating now. I have had a roll coz my daughter is getting into skating. But it's painful and kills me when trying even basic shit. Hey ho, I'm more pragmatic these days coz I had a good run (no pun) and grew up in England with skaters who went on to be big names, and skated with some of the best skaters you could name from 90s. The real innovative generation
Dumb Data your video seems to be playing the devils advocate here and presenting some good analysis honestly. Nice work. Just wanted to add that The Nine Club are bringing positivity to the interviews. No gotcha journalism. This is what helps them get so many unique guests on their shows. It makes the guests feel comfortable and willing to put themselves out there on the internet. Many of whom don't do podcasts or on camera interviews normally. TNC has even talked about prior guests that didn't like something they have said while recording and they offer to edit it out if need be BEFORE they release that episode. I think TNC is being genuine and that they want to tell that persons story in their own words. If they didn't do this then I would be less knowledgable then I am now. I enjoy watching the show and if you don't then don't watch it or don't watch an episode with a certain guest if you don't want. They do all this work to create free content for us. For that I am grateful. But do please support any of the creators you like. I too enjoyed the wood talk vid though.
I don't think that The Nine Club is only about positive skate culture, it really is about getting people to share their stories on broad spectrum of the industry (filmers, photographers, company owners, writers, skaters). It helps document the history of skateboarding in a way and also gives us different views of subjects related to it (injuries, post-skateboarding career, sponsors) - which are "core" to the culture. I feel their attempts of branching out (Green room and the gaming stuff) are pretty boring so I don't really follow that and maybe (imo) they could come up with something better, mainly because Crob is a pretty funny guy (like the freestyle stuff with Andy Anderson). Should also mention that the more controversial stuff did come up naturally on some occassion like the Mark Johnson episode where he talked about his Lakai/Chocolate controversy even though Roberts, Eldridge and Jeron are still somewhat linked with the Crailtap. Also about the whole data thing and growing the channel, you are forgetting that The Nine Club viewership might no be the only source of income for this guys (besides Roger, Tim and Crob), they have the sponsors but also the merch on the website (that you didn't comment smh). In the end it still very much a passion project for most of them, doubt Jeron, Steezus or Kelly make much money out of it.
Well I watched/listened to your whole video and im in different. Comments are praising your point of view but I have no idea where u were going with this. Lotta people hate the nine club for petty reasons, but thats skating and the nature of people. They want it to be something its not. People want Chris, a grown ass man, to be something he's not. For ALOTTA people, nine club as become a safe haven of positivity and jokes. I hope they keep going down that path. Also didn't know Chris had a twitch, so thank you for the plug.
I think everyone should chill and not jump on the hate-train. The Nine Club has so many good interviews with a lot of pro's we all admire. And basically 50% of this video is about Gary Vee and partially Mark Oblow (F*ck you m8). So to immediately label it as "Everything goes wrong" is wrong imo. Give the dudes who spread love so much some love back. Nine Club is dope
This video doesn't label it as "Everything goes wrong" at all. Try reading EVERY word in a sentence and you'll understand what the actual subject matter is.
@@juli7xxxxx argh.. I have to admit that halfway of my argument I focussed more on the latter part of the sentence. You're right to correct that. A case study of when not agreeing goes right
@@mikequinlivan8842 she said in this interview there is a scientific difference between men and women and it’s fact and she would land things more easily if she were a male. Then when a female called out a trans female skater for winning a female contest, she laid into the other woman and told her she needs to change her attitude and rethink being in skating. She went the total different direction and is instead putting women down for having a disadvantage in a woman’s contest.
Honestly a lot of dumb ass data in this video. Congrats on staying true to your name. I like the idea of spreading positivity within skateboarding. One of the biggest things you must realize is that as you get older, skateboarding begins to be less about being critical about others’ skating styles and more about celebrating a common interest amongst everyone in this beautiful community. Not every page has to talk shit. There are pages that do it really well and others that do not feel the need to do so.
It’s not about skaters styles, it’s about who they are as a human being. If u got a shit personality, fake as shit, rude, condescending all that lame wack energy we can get critical about. Keep it sturddddy💪🏽😂
Gary Vee was a step too far for some. The Gator thing was a dude spouting off what he heard vs the facts had already been established. They should have pushed back on it. Gary Vee’s shit is a pump/dump scam. He doesn’t deserve their platform or audience. Mike Mo’s NFT thing was bad enough but at least it was collectible based and tangible. To each their own, at the end of the day. Cheers.
It seems like since day one people have been telling the nine club how to run their show but the reality is they have left all but one of their competitors completely in the dust. it’s fair to critique them however at some point people gotta accept that the crew knows what they are doing and know what’s best for their show.
Unfortunately we live in a time where the very same people who watch & listen to content are just waiting for those very same content creator's to fail! The Nine Club has literally produced week's worth of great entertainment and knowledge for the skating community from around the world, but just one 5 minute segment from a misinformed guest is enough to dismiss all that other great content and call for the cancellation of something they actually enjoyed a week before. It's a shollow unhealthy world we live in atm, and I honestly feel sorry for anybody who puts themselves out there and tries to entertain & inform people.
Chill dude. I don’t see anybody calling for cancellation. There’s nothing wrong with criticism. Yea it’s “free” content, but it’s made for an audience who generate views which generates income. It’s in the best interest of the show to at least to some degree take it into consideration. Obviously there’ll be extreme cases of people being idiots but the vast majority is just calling them out on a misstep.
Exactly, to many people lost in their ironic egos pretending these fallouts are even vaguely a positive thing. Society is decaying in the opposite way as presented.
Wow, good analysis; I learned a lot from this one. Another reason for the soft ball interviews is that they want everyone to come on the show and to return.. if the show gets a rep for challenging guests, some might not want to go on. It would generate much more interesting content tho
The thing is, there is a difference between challenging guests and being CONFRONTATIONAL to guests. You don't need to be openly hostile and beligerant, but it's nice to have a more challenging or tricky question in your sleeve to keep the ball rolling in an engaging way and avoid being used for PR for scams or indefensable ideas. To put it into perspective, a massive podcast here in Brazil almost went kaput because shit like this. Not only the podcast had a similar "hands-off" approach to conducting the show, one of the main hosts was this "hardcore libertarian" who thought he is free to say everything on his mind without repercussions. In the end, he got booted from his own podcast and almost prosecuted because he went on a wild and hyperbolic tangent about how there should be a legal Nazi Party because freedom of expression gives too much space to the "radical left" or some shit like that during an interview with a couple younger lawmakers.
There’s enough depressing stuff in the world, it’s nice to listen to a group of guys always speaking positively and humbly about what they love. They don’t need to start arguments with guests. One could equally criticise you for making a video about a nothing controversy for the sake of getting clicks. How about take a lesson from them and spend more time trying to do something positive with your time.
@@thegreatwhitemoose1582 no, I do not watch his streams because I am not into gaming. But the take is still stupid. Where‘s the connection between these points? He can do whatever he wants. Maybe that’s his best way of a balance

You’re complaining that they aren’t critical enough and aren’t talking shit on enough things, when that’s not what their show is about? That’s like critiquing a rom-com on the fact there aren’t enough super-hero fight scenes in it. Don’t like it don’t watch it lmfao Edit: also 23:15 is an awful take, what’s the point

I don't care about their non confrontational style of interviewing. I just have to stop watching sometimes bc I get tired of Kelly Hart having to interject his two cents into literally everything.
I think where the Nine Club guys are a little mistaken is that it’s not really that people don’t like that they don’t talk shit, it’s that they have had some guests on who have said some pretty inexcusable things or have done some inexcusable things, and they sat back and didn’t speak up. The prime examples being Jason Jessse and Mark Oblow. I understand it’s incredibly more difficult to confront a guest in person when you’ve invited them to your place, but for instance when Mark Oblow said Gator “accidentally killed his girlfriend with rough sex” they absolutely should have spoken up and contested that, because that’s grossly inaccurate to what really happened to that poor girl. Or with Jason Jessee, when he tried to beat around the bush about his past, they could have calmly but firmly contested him with the concrete evidence of his white supremacy, and how that is incredibly damaging to the inclusive culture skateboarding should have. (To his credit, I know at one point Roger did get seemingly fed up with his rambling and straight up called him a racist, but there should have been more dialogue about it.) Idk man, I don’t demonize the guys because I think they do have the best intentions in mind, but it is a little discrediting to say that all their criticisms are about people wanting them to talk shit more. Sure, there are 100% those people, but it’s not only that.
Glad you made a video about this. I’ve tuned into The Nine Club less these days because of 2 reasons; I don’t know / care about the guest, and the hosts always agree with everything and think everything is so sick that it gets really boring. Like do they actually have no beef or negative comments about anyone in the industry? Comes across as a little fake. I’m not saying they should be starting all kinds of drama, but a touch of tellin it like it is honesty would be refreshing.
I am all for controversial discourse, so much so I have spent years studying the details, the tactics and psychology behind different perspectives. i have also been subscribed to Nine club for years, watching and listening to a ton of episodes. I never had this thought though about them. This isn't a place many can understand but skateboarding isnt the rest of the world. Skateboarding sets the nect trend. It's the true melting pot and that world isn't required to create tension and stir undesired, unnecessary drama. These attitudes are similar to many other skateboarders Ive met throughout the years. Its never been a contraversial podcast, and to expect it to tailor around your perspective is a list of things,( I'll take one from the Nine ) and not mention.
9Club need to bring Mullen or Koston or Bieber to boost their ratings. Hell, they should held a conference, interviewing Mullen on stage in front of thousand of live audience for a special 9 Club episode !
If you don't like it don't watch? So what they not in the game of throwing stones like some others. Why would they invite someone on the show and roast them? The Gary V ep, if you're open minded a little could be used for skaters to learn to use social media better to grow. Alot of skaters are still stuck in the 90s like 80% of the filming too.
Realistically Nine Club can't challenge people they don't have the same amount of subscribers as No Jumper. Nine club is still trying to get guests like Koston, Mariano, etc. So, they want to create a welcoming platform not a challenging one. It's not fair to expect them to challenge guests on the spot, they can address it on the experience show. I think if it's brand new info, give them some time to research it further and respond.
You and Gifted Hater shouldn't be beefing, you two both fill a void in skate culture and an important one. As far as the Nine Club, well, it's Crob's show, he treats it like he treats his skating, lets everyone around him do all the heavy lifting, he takes the credit. As far as this channel I can get behind someone who objectively analyzes something for what it is, keep it up.
@@チャーリーブラウン-w8l Thats his job, some things are actually funny in skateboarding. And his opinion by nature is subjective, what he finds funny may not be what you find funny, or right or wrong, so don't be so morally virtuous. know the difference between The truth and YOUR truth.
If anyone doesn't enjoy the 9 club, I don't see how that's a problem. This isn't national television. The podcast is the result of a mutual interest from the hosts and their public.
You're overlooking the fact that not all podcast listens are counted purely through TH-cam. Plus the number Hawk v Wolf is doing is great for a podcast that has just made it a single year now. Usually it's MULTIPLE years before a podcast even breaks even in terms of earnings. I do agree that Nine Club (and other skate podcasts) would be wise to branch out their guests a bit, but the more skate-relevant they are the better. Spike Jonez is a good choice, but you could get basically any Hollywood personality with a connection to skating in there (Josh Brolin, Jonah Hill, Rosario Dawson, etc), get fitness people in there, artists and musicians who have done stuff for skating, maybe people behind the Tony Hawk or Skate video games, hell, even people involved in urban planning or law or who have something to do with skateparks and spots in some capacity could be interesting. They don't even need to be long episodes; it'd actually be better if they're on shorter side. Mostly, they need to make sure the guests are good at banter, which not all core skaters are. That and, yeah, ask some good fucking questions! Crob in particular needs to really look at what the all time great interviewers have done and take notes, on top of finding out what questions the guests have been asked over and over again.
@@dcross8382 there is great solution for that if they don't have booked guest don't talk about getting him on podcast (or doing many things that will never happen). It's easier to under promising and over delivering or in simpler words "less talking, more action"

At some point they just got more famous as talk show hosts then as skaters and so people expect they would have the skill of a journalist to push back on sensitive or contentious topics on the fly. I can imagine it’s much harder to do then it looks to be able to manage that with skill. Those who can make it look easy, and that’s often why they’re able to make a career out of asking people difficult questions. As for the show itself, I come and go, every now and then I have periods where I’ll rinse it for some weeks and then I’ll forget about it for a while knowing I’ll probably return later.
I Think skateboarding for the general public is only fun to watch. They don’t really care to learn about the individual skater and I think that’s the main reason skateboard podcast have a smaller audience. Only core skaters listen cuz we wanna know the history.
Crob tuned out years ago and doesn't seem to listen or care what the guests are saying and doesn't have much of a mind or interest in skate history. The problem is it's a free form chat podcast that's shoehorning the 'hosts' as personalities, but they dont offer much personality up. They need a break, Crob can be a funny, charming dude who just seems burnt out.
Lmao okay inwoke yo no note then 15 mins ago, just tryna get my coffee on and boom! that clip of him kissing his dad on the mouth slapped me straight across the face. What a way to wake up
There is nothing more cringe and off putting than "Accountability Culture”. Doesn’t matter if it’s music, welding, knitting, video games, or skating. Every TH-cam community has those gossipy drama channels that try to hold people “accountable" for this or that. Its like high school girl drama. It’s just a podcast.
And they're ironically so nok self aware of their actual negativity..they're the worst kind of people who are clearly like that in everyday life. Prime example above.
I don't understand the point of this video... That the Nine Club are nice to their guests? They're not journalists, they're skaters who mostly interview skaters about their careers and lives. You even put a pop-up on screen when the NFt douche said "skill", Chris added "style", and the conversation continued. Why? So what? That was pointless and meaningless to point out with a pop-up. This video is pointless and meaningless.
There not being something they are not I've got nothing bad to say about nine club if people want to talk shit about other skaters they should just make their own channel
i cant pretend ive ever noticed these issues in the show. nine club to me comes across as just a group of dudes that like skating and hearing stories about it from guests. that alone has been enough interest from me to watch about 100 episodes. repetitive? sure... but the guests are interesting enough. the point about how they dont even make great money off it reinforces this feel.
Lame apologist just like them.
They contradict themselves often by agreeing to the opposite side of the opinion with other skaters. Hella people just hate like crazy in the comments so they try to avoid any type of hate possible lol...

Well put
Weird, that's not at all what I experienced in the late 90s on, I was the odd one out cause I wished more girls would skate.

The 9 club never claimed to be investigative reporters. They give famous skateboarders/industry folk (mostly) a place to share their story. It may be accurate or inaccurate, but it's specifically NOT a confrontational integration and I hope it stays that way.
They need to evolve if they want the channel to last
They don’t need to be “investigative reporters” if they’re just normal folks having a conversation, but they’re actively giving a platform to people who are spreading potentially dangerous or hurtful misinformation on THEIR show. At some point they need to take accountability and be able to stand up to a guest who’s flagrantly using their platform to sell bullshit or rewrite a dark past. Also, dumbdata is just giving suggestions here based off of *data* as to how they can survive the always shifting attention span of a viewing audience.
True
Professional skateboarding has been about self promotion and showing off the new tricks you landed since it first became pupular (probably before your time). Casual skating hasn't changed at all and you're just stuck in the past. Go with the times old man. Embrace the future
I would love to get with the times but I destroyed 3 discs in my back age 30. This was 15 years ago, and is probably why I am bitter and twisted lol.

Put it better than I could.

Incredible take that's all too familiar to all of us these days. The internet was a mistake.
Wow, good analysis; I learned a lot from this one. Another reason for the soft ball interviews is that they want everyone to come on the show and to return.. if the show gets a rep for challenging guests, some might not want to go on. It would generate much more interesting content tho
Good analysis? Its almost stalker. God damn get out there and skate. Don't like a guest? Dont watch it.. Cry babies.
Yeah, Chris Roberts says this on the Jason Ellis show interview
I think the points made in this video are over your head 🙄
Important distinction; I agree
Nine club is decent, rad to hear skaters talk about stuff.
iactuallylikedlearningaboutwoodfor2hours
There’s enough depressing stuff in the world, it’s nice to listen to a group of guys always speaking positively and humbly about what they love. They don’t need to start arguments with guests.
One could equally criticise you for making a video about a nothing controversy for the sake of getting clicks. How about take a lesson from them and spend more time trying to do something positive with your time.
It's depressing to hear people ignore what makes people depressed and act like it doesn't exist.
@@jenks4879 you can always find other outlets for that. There’s millions of podcasts out there, this one doesn’t have to check every box.

Love the nine club. It's a nice break from all the madness of the world
Its not a fucking a debate show
Its nobodys job to call anyone out. Nineclub is not responsible for what others say. Its merely a platform for people to talk.
I died a little at the sigh before Roy Purdys name
Hey Nora I don't think you need to worry about getting those episodes deleted, everyone skips over yours anyway.
😂😂😂
You’re complaining that they aren’t critical enough and aren’t talking shit on enough things, when that’s not what their show is about?
That’s like critiquing a rom-com on the fact there aren’t enough super-hero fight scenes in it.
Don’t like it don’t watch it lmfao
Edit: also 23:15 is an awful take, what’s the point
Its the fact that they dont critique ANYTHING! Like a rape apologist just ranting on their show. You missed the point hard bro
1 sided interviews aren't interesting. Gotta have the back and forth to unearth the gold.
@@ceezus_ he didn't call for them to be cancelled just pointing out there blatant unwillingness to call out their guests bs

I don't care about their non confrontational style of interviewing. I just have to stop watching sometimes bc I get tired of Kelly Hart having to interject his two cents into literally everything.
Actually Kelly sometimes can be a breathe of fresh air, when he's not fake laughing ALL THE FUCKING TIME....ugh. It must be a nervous tic.
@@capo_di_capi Yeah, that gets rough. He can be okay sometimes but he also has some mega Chad energy for sure.
(To his credit, I know at one point Roger did get seemingly fed up with his rambling and straight up called him a racist, but there should have been more dialogue about it.)
Idk man, I don’t demonize the guys because I think they do have the best intentions in mind, but it is a little discrediting to say that all their criticisms are about people wanting them to talk shit more. Sure, there are 100% those people, but it’s not only that.
Exactly. Some of the ppl in these comments dont get that, we dont want them to just start hating wtf
If you don't like it don't comment?
Realistically Nine Club can't challenge people they don't have the same amount of subscribers as No Jumper. Nine club is still trying to get guests like Koston, Mariano, etc. So, they want to create a welcoming platform not a challenging one. It's not fair to expect them to challenge guests on the spot, they can address it on the experience show. I think if it's brand new info, give them some time to research it further and respond.
lmfao i forgot about them having dave mayhew on there talking about how he designed the shoe
Mike V's episode was so damn good. His engagement and storytelling made that 5+ hours fly.
GH brings nothing to the table at all compare to DD, and GH has only been acting like a clown lately.

Skating game developers would be very interesting imo..
they talked about getting Jonah Hill for years and nothing happened, they talk a lot for sure but not so good on the making it real

Bro nobody gives af about Nora! Those type of ppl are the exact toxic problem in this generation! 🤦🏽🤦🏽🤦🏽🤡

Imagine trying to weaponize accountability for shit you say. Y’all really live in another reality.
Did he kiss he dad on the mouth?...🤮
