    It's kinda funny how he says "Street Photography is not my forte" and then continue to take some of the best picture I've ever seen.

      That one really got my attention too! I was wondering if the underexposed or just made that shot according to the camera photometer. Anyone has a thought on that?

      You can tell he has a great eye for portraits as so many shots have such pleasing "studio" lighting. eg. butterfly lighting at 2:22, split lighting at 3:34, rembrandt with a fill (!) at 3:39, rembrandt at 3:50, etc. etc. Portraits are second nature to this guy. Fantastic shots.

      I think you did well enough. A different look than Ed's usual perspective. Your perspective seems more focused on what goes on behind the scenes but Ed's approaches seems more head on in the thick of the action. In other words, Ed's more ballsy with his approaches hahahaha.

    yeah I'm a total novice at shooting in general but I can tell like many others in the comments this guy's got some natural tallents for street photography, I mean most of the shots were impressive and had no touble getting on people's faces etc even standing in the middle of the street for the cool shoe shining shot. Enjoyed the video thanks!

  • @DavidComdico
    @DavidComdico 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Good video. Always nice to see photographers at work. Best thing about the OM1 is that it is completely manual. The batteries are only needed for the meter, which has a nice needle match system. For such a small camera the viewfinder is huge and very nice. Film cameras always have much nicer viewfinders.

    I bought an OM10 with the shutter speed accessory with half a dozen lenses, flash, filters and bag for £60. I bought it intending to upgrade to an OM1 or 2 but I like this camera so much I've never found to replacing it. I think if I did it would just be for the name and the "pro" title that goes with it. It also has Fuji Superior in it at the moment, not a pro film but one I find quite neutral with no going overboard with reds, blues or greens. Great video and I'm looking forward to more collaboration between the two of you.

    I strongly feel that the Olympus cameras are greatly underappreciated even up to it's current digital line. I work with an OM-2S myself and i love it and will seriously recommend it to anyone. I mean the OM-1 was made entirely to rival the Leica M series such that it was even named M1 but forced to be renamed as the OM-1.

    • @bwc1976

      I always wondered why Canon didn't get in similar trouble with Nikon when it came out with the F1.

    • @FantasticOtto
      @FantasticOtto 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bwc1976 Possibly because Nikon never made a camera called F1. The line consisted of F, F2, F3 etc. The M1 however, was already used by Leica for their 1959 rangefinder.

    That film had some great color rendition, but WOW the low light level grain was HUGE. I can only hope people shooting digital find the thrill of film photography.... it makes you THINK before hitting the shutter... you aren't going to blast off 300 pictures in a day hoping for a couple good ones..... and with a good film scanner, you can work with them on your computer just like digital pictures.

    I had two of these before. I loved them. Later on I got spoiled by Canon A-1, but I still miss the OM-1 I had. The shutter trigger is mechanical, not like Canon A-1, so you can really feel it. Ed, I think it would be great if you can put the shutter sound in every time you show the picture. The sound of OM-1 is one of the best, it is not as quiet as those rangefinders, but it was a pleasant sound.

    • @weili4026
      @weili4026 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It shoots aperture priority mode, better focus screen (I think OM-1n improved the screen), cheaper lenses. A-1 is just easier for me to work with. But I do not really like the feel of it, chunky, whiny.

    one question, how can I get the right battery for OM1? There is no 1.35V battery any more

    • @FrankWalsh
      @FrankWalsh 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Use Zinc-Air batteries. They are very close in voltage and they have similar characteristics as far as decay, that is they hold the voltage mostly constant then die quickly. You can also purchase a small adapter that has some electronics in it to convert alkaline voltage, but these are kind of expensive ($30)

      M Dat get the WeinCell battery. It needs to be 1.35V or else the light meter won't be accurate. You could also use an adapter or even get the camera converted to use 1.5V batteries that as much cheaper and easily available. I personally just use a handheld light meter. (There are even free light meter apps that work really good)
