I spent a good few days playing about on a perfectly balanced margarita recipe. The combo of lemon and lime juice as well as steeping the zest in the juice makes this recipe a true winner! Hope you will enjoy it as much as all the production team did.
A green lime is under ripe. A yellow lime is fully ripe. Yellow will be sweeter and less bitter. If you go to Brazil or Mexico most of the limes are yellow. I prefer yellow limes over green ones, but some prefer the green ones. In America we think green is ripe but it's not. Limes can only ripen on the tree, once picked it will not ripen any further. 😊
I’ve made these and they are PERFECT. I tripled the recipe and made a giant batch for a party and everyone raved about them! This is my go-to recipe for margaritas!
I find the orange liqueur to be sweet enough to balance the tequila without adding sugar, but I do love the idea of making the juice ahead of time and allowing the zest to infuse. I do use liqueur instead of triple sec as I like the flavor and the ABV is higher in the liqueur, making it less dilute when the ice melts to cool the drink. I am one of the many folks out there that have been using my microplane incorrectly all this time, though, and it made me nervous every time as it was hard to control and I don't want to zest my fingers into a drink. Great video and thanks for the tips!
Made these last Saturday, as a Professional Mixologist I'm always looking for variations of some of the classic drinks. This is perhaps the best example of a excellent upgrade to the very well know drink around the world the Margarita. I have had dozen's and dozen of Margaritas during my travels around the culinary world and I have to say this is by far the best Margarita I've had. The lemon is perfect. I prefer a full bodied Margarita where I can taste the Tequila and the Cointreau but a few of my friends prefer a little lighter version so I walked back the Tequila and Cointreau by 1/4 a cup. But most of of us like it just the way Chef Jon makes it. A clear winner which will be my go to Margarita mix now. You will want to use Cointreau with recipe it does make a difference.
La bebida preferida al estilo del chef Jon Ashton, el sabor e un rico coktail como una margarita, limon, sal y el teQUILA de su preferencia, recomiendo esta receta.
I just love the humour you have. This will always keep audience like me engaged in your videos. I just love food and i will always be a subscriber from now on. Thank you
It’s blanco not bianco. I personally think a blanco is the better option, and that Olmeca Altos is a great option, especially for the price. I also think upgrading the triple sec is totally worth it.
I'm only at the level of silver tequila but adding a reposado or an añejo will add more flavor to the drink. I like the idea of infusion. The juice and the oils of the fruit. Im gonna try that. So far, the best blanco tequilas I've tasted are Jose Cuervo Platino and Corzo. The quality of the tequila is important to me. If its made the traditional way, where they cook the agave in a brick oven, the product taste much better. Thanks for the video.
Trying your recipe today, thanks! BTW, it's BLANCO (pronounced blonco unless you say it differently across the pond), not bianco. Altos repo is actually a great choice for margaritas. It's decent tequila for a lower price. You could even sip Altos if you don't have anything better around.
A favorite Mexican restaurant of mine uses the juice of two limes to the juice of 1 orange. I find it to be a lovely balance of tart and sweet. Next time I will be adding the zest to the mix.
Yes, I have seen orange juice added to the mix. Blood oranges make especially pretty drinks. Play around with your fresh citrus. If you have no fresh citrus, make a whiskey drink...
I met a cheeky sod who said, "I have had a Margaret, not a margarita." 😆I don't drink but enjoyed watching your video. Picked up a few nifty tips. Thanks much. Kan pei!
Excellent explanation jon..i would never cook any food..but your cooking style is making me to cook food.any way this lime juice is very healthy & super cool.thanks for sharing this video.

This is my first video of yours, and I already love you! This will really make my Margaritas better. And, I use the same tequila you use! I tried others but that brand of repasado is best.
A Serious Margarita is mostly tequila, flavored with fresh lime juice and orange liqueur, preferably served straight up. A very strong drink. Serve a maximum of 2, followed by a serious meal. To serve several people several margs, perhaps with light snacks, use your imagination. As this guy does. Mix and match FRESH citrus juice. Serve over ice. Tequila must be 100% agave Blanco or Reposado as you wish...

What might I use instead of triple sec? Any substitute ideas? Triple sec doesn’t agree with my body… but I love Margaritas!
Grand marnier
Cointreau also works 🙂
