      True. It's really frustrating when the teammates just follow the ball waiting for a chance to goal. I wouldn't mind if they can aerial goal/pass to the teammates but they can't. Whenever the ball goes above, they'll always waiting for the ball to touch the ground. It's worse when they followed the ball, but to scared to hit the ball and do 180 drift to move back to their own goal to defense/pickup boost. Well, that doesn't help either, since they're just wasting boost for nothing or giving enemies chance to score a goal.
      Whoops, I'm not mad. I'm just pointing out my opinion. Don't mind me. (☉ε ⊙ノ)ノ Also, make sure you didn't read it in an angry tone.

      Agreed, but I wouldn't blame on individual lack of skill right away when solo queuing (not like you said it, but almost everyone did). Most of the time it's the team itself that didn't perform well, mainly because of communication, chemistry, trust, etc.
      But this is the internet, lack of human decency is around the corner.

    Issue with the offensive rotation... I normally end up in pos 3 cause I don't want to over commit. But normally when the ball is in the position when I should move up for a hit my teammates don't fancy coming back. Guys in pos 1 and 2 just chase the ball, getting worse hits than I could have. Eventually I get bored and push up and of course no one rotates back

      In lower ranks, this doesn't really apply since your tm's are probably ball chasing. During the first minute, look and see if your team is rotating; If they are join in, if not play defensively.

    • @DoodKevv

      yo if youre a low ranker knowing you should be higher (you prolly should be higher by now its been a year) just play defensively and hit some long power shots towards the opposing net whenever the opposition make a clear. Basically counter-attack

    Helpful Tip: Try and have at least one teammate that has full view of the play. In the case of offense, let's say position 3 could be that player. A helpful tip would be that position 3 is able to give callouts to help positions 1 and 2 decide what moves to make as the play progresses. Eg. "Double back, they're gonna clear." It's helpful in the off chance your teammates, for example, can't see an opponent approaching the ball. So instead of them getting beat to the ball and then being out of the play and unable to help on defense, they can fall off of the ball and prepare defensively.

    • @SatisfiedOnion
      @SatisfiedOnion 7 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      With doubles on offense, the passer has to immediately, in many cases, fall back to center field or a decent distance behind the shooter or follow-upper to be able to stop the counterattack. On defense, you need to always have one person delaying/pushing the other team to force them to make a mistake. One that mistake is made (or they have to make a big touch to get around your team mate), that's when you step in. It's very similar to how defense should be played in actual soccer

    • @Mr.v
      @Mr.v 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      also, when attacking, try advancing to the opponent's goal by passing the ball from left to right and right to left. it's the best tactic even in 3v3, but in 2v2 is most effective. avoid being in the middle of the pitch unless you are about to shoot on goal. also remember that it's very easy for 1 player to score against 2 players, so most of the times one of you needs to camp at your goal. no need to join every attack

      BOUCHER Victor imo the best defense play defense wise is one person in goal and the other trying to clear the ball if the person trying to clear the ball fails he rushes back to goal while that is happening the goalie goes out to challenge.FYI i am platinum so dont take that as a 100% fact it just works for me and my team mate

    Grand Champion thoughts:
    This type of rotation works for everything through maybe champ 1, but at the very high levels the only two rules about rotation are that the closest person to the ball that can challenge effectively goes to it, and that someone with boost is rotating back towards the goal (defense). For offense (in this scenario mentioned), I prefer that position 1 steals the boost and rotates to position 3, while two pushes forward becoming 1, and position 3 becomes position 2. Obviously that is dependent upon the situation though

    I did know about rotation, roughly, but didn't know about the "specific" positions and strategies (especially the 3rd position in denfence, since everybody just mosly goes sameball side and I usually take goalie). I'm a newly Plat 2 with 100/120hrs and overnight this changed my gameplay to the better. Also Mr.Napkin video helped a lot on how to take responsibility and I get less frustrated as you can always tell you self you could have done better. This allows for possible recoveries from 2 goals down. The great thing is that teammates really react to your positioning most of the time and overall the placement just balances out as long as someone starts to at least try to do it right. Thanks a lot!

    Big rotation advice from #74 on xbox in 3's
    coming from someone who is number 74 in threes on Xbox you did a great job covering rotation for offense. The only thing I would say is never rotate sideways once the passer passes whether it is good or bad he should take the back boost if there is any and proceed to rotate back to defense. The person who was in the middle for the shot will stay there depending on boost and maybe rotate back a little bit to mid field depending on the ball's position. now the person who started on defense will recenter the ball and try to get the original shooter to shoot. What me and my friends tend to do is once we grab their boost we try to go for a demo. also if you are on defense and the ball is just being centered and you know it will take a while for them to clear what we normally do is the person who is back will go to the corner boost that is open on their side. That way if we take both corner boost it will be easy for us to take middle boosts. Then a boost starve starts happening. All in all never rotate sideways on offense.
    as for defense I partially agree with you. At least for the champion level we have one person at mid waiting for the hard clear to redirect it in the goal. The person who clears it is normally in goal in the third person will be at a booster or behind him trying to contest 5050s in order to get a clear up the field. this only works if every single person on the team is capable of saving hard shots. If the pressure is on and there is no boost on defense, one person goes on the back wall above the goal. This allows him to get power clears very easily and buy us time to get boost. as for the other two, they should be evenly distributed in the net. this way any high shots the backboard a person will be able to save, and any low shots will be saved by the two people on the ground. Great video khan and for anyone that read this all this will definitely help.

    Another tip for people who don't have anyone to play with and have to solo que, here's my personal opinion based on experience (I almost always play with randoms, dia)
    You have to be aware of what your teammate is going to do. There's a big chance that he/she never saw this video and has no idea about your game plan. The only thing you can do at this point is to watch where your teammates are going and be at a different position then them. So if Teammate #1 is attempting a pass, and you see teammate #2 charging upfield to recieve it, you have to stay back in position 3, defence. Even if you are in the Shooters position, if you see your teammate leaving the defence, you should take his place and quickchat: "take the shot" or "defending". This way, if the shot get's saved, you don't end up with an open net. (When you really have a clear shot, you just quickchat: "i got it")
    On defence it's a little different though. When you see your teammate standing next to you in goal, you could choose to stay there for safety. But the best thing to do is to trust in him/her and to try and defend in a different place. What i always do is to try and stop the ball as much as possible so that the speed of their attack is gone. Usually i go for a 50/50 in the corner to stop a pass. This way your other teammate in goal can breathe a little. Usually they go for the ball after that. If they do, you go back to his spot in goal.
    This is hard to get under control because most of the times you focus so much on the ball that you forget where your 3rd teammate is. I've been in the position where i shoot the ball after a pass, and then i look back and i see that the #3 teammate is also going for it, leaving the net wide open. After watching this video i really saw what i was doing wrong. The reason why i'm stuck in diamond is because of my positioning and of my awareness of my teammates positions.

    I don't have experience in high tier ranks but it seems to me as though there are times that the goalie needs to go for a clear. At times, players may try to set it up so that they could do a quick pass off a backboard ricochet and the shooter could do a shot that is hard to block. Same is true for backboard crossover rolls, although that can be more easily anticipated if its a slow roll above your car. During those times, it makes since to clear the ball if you are the goalie since you can easily get better clearing angles because you are already facing away from the goal. I believe it's easier to anticipate the pass instead of the shot in that situation and so, in that case, the clearer should rotate with the goalie. Oddly enough though, I seem to recall making quite a few saves that way when rotating.

The worst thing is watching my beautiful pass sail along and I look back and both my teammates are huddled in the net of the opposite side. I am only at the net if no one else is there and ball is on our side. If I’m third position I stay at half field unless the ball is getting boomed, then I move back just a little bit. The passer becoming the shooter makes sense when I think about it. That was probably my main issue. Although what I see all the time is my team mates side by side in position 1 on offense, which means neither is there for a set and it leaves me to either risk everything on a shot or just stay back. Diamond 3 for reference

    great video man, don't have much to add. I see so many players around champ 3 to grand champ rank that are simply horrible positioning-wise. Sure their mechanical skill is "okay" but that's it, which sucks to play with in soloqueue.

  • @talmagegibster6075
    @talmagegibster6075 7 ปีที่แล้ว +36

    What do you do if it isn't possible to rotate? I'm silver 3 in everything except for solo standard, which I'm stuck in bronze 1 because my team doesn't rotate or do anything and sometimes can't even hit the ball. Do I just ball chase until it gets better?

    • @SnailJizz
      @SnailJizz 7 ปีที่แล้ว +44

      Talmagegibster I'm up in diamond but when I play with my friends in silver I find I can easily win with them by just standing off just behind the play and waiting for the ball to get into free space where I can do what I want because everyone is usually in the same area ball chasing.. hope this helps

      Talmagegibster, I'm in the champ ranks, do exactly what SnailJizz says. If you can clutch defense/keep clearing the ball down field you can just let your teammates ball chase and hopefully score. If you have the room though, don't be afraid to make a shot/play if your want, just don't over extend if your teammates are really that bad.

    in a lot of situations the defensive player that misses a clear can go up for a pass or go up to steal the other teams boost. Not having boost on defense is really hard to play with so doing this will cure that.

    I'm a gc in 2s on 2 accounts and when I play at lower levels I find people are too slow , can't defend and don't understand boost conservation , stealing , sharing and not going for boost when they can't (also know as ball over boost ) but the worst mistakes are ball chasing at bad times (yes ball chasing can be useful when you're winning by a goal having a ball chaser hit the ball constantly around there net until they clear it too the 100 boost defensive maestro who clears it back to the ball chaser)

    Everyone that is wondering what do we do in 2s? Well it's quite simple. In offense the defender will rotate to be the shooter or the passer if the pass gets over passed while the original passer can go back tot eh defending position(which can now take a shot or do another pass)

    Please keep in mind a few things regarding my post. I'm 40 years old. I come from a hockey background and I started playing two weeks ago only. But I think there is a flagrant mistake in the defense rotation shown here.
    I don't think having someone immobile in net is useful. Maybe at higher ranks it gets better although I highly doubt it. Rocket League is a game that plays at high speed and with big contacts. I'd rather have all three people rotate from back post to attacking the ball to rushing back to the back post. I don't think it's a good idea to look at it from the point of view of positions. It's three jobs from the point of view of one player and when done in rythm it makes for a much more fluid, constant and therefore harder to defend pressure. Basically the player at the back post is reading the ball to react to the teammate before him. Did he win/lose a 50-50, did the whiff, did he clear etc. From there he needs to attack the ball as soon as he sees the other teammate is getting ready to take his spot and while he's attacking, the teammate who whiffed (at silver this is the most likely scenario) is getting back to the back post to take the place of the player who is reading how the new attempt will play out.
    Again, not a lot of experience with this game but understand rotation from other sports and played my share oh hockey so do with this what you will.

  • @Cjrpos
    @Cjrpos 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    The only thing I'd change is I really prefer when the Keeper position (Position 3) is parallel to the goal, and typically at the back post, pushing to the forward post only when necessary. I feel like its easier to makes saves over the entire net from this position, generally. Obviously modified based on circumstances.

      You say go back on defense like that's all they're allowed to do when you see a teammate going for it go back and get a boost and stop getting them from the middle of the arena and hogging like i always say do something or come back so i can i mean clearly they're better if they see more shots than you.

    • @campfire8103
      @campfire8103 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I hate playing with 2 passers and always being the one that defends and sees all these opened shots but its risky sometimes going for it and don't have as much confidence because idiots are always ahead of me so if i miss it's all my fault literally but at the end of the day it really isn't.

    - Trust your teammates
    - When your teammate has the ball, get into a useful position (i.e. don't try to steal it - see point 1)
    - If you are between the opposition's net and the ball, go defend (don't go for the ball - see point 1 & 2)

    On defense, if I fail a clear from position 1, I cheat up on the sideline (sometimes all the way to half court or further) so the person in position 3 can clear it to me and make a counter attack. If you're constantly rotating back to net, you'll never make it out of your half of the field, especially as you get to higher ranks.

    Here’s the bottom line though, you can watch this video and understand how to rotate but if you can’t adjust to your teammates when you solo queue then you don’t deserve to be any higher than you are in rank. Rotating often makes you feel like you’re a smart player and you think because you were in the right position your teammates must’ve been wrong. Well yeah, but it’s your job to acknowledge your teammates positioning as well and adjust your rotations according to that. Sometimes on offense your teammate will constantly be the passer, banging the ball corner to corner. Sometimes your teammate loves shooting and will cut you off. It’s your job to recognize these playstyles and consider playing as last back for the majority of the game. Basically I’m saying that rotations aren’t everything there is and if you can’t adjust your rotations to your teammates, then you’re just as bad as them.
