To answer one of your questions, what Bruce was working on that turned him into the Hulk was an effort to reverse engineer/recreate the blue stuff that they put into Steve.
Also, regarding Steve's courage, I remember one comic where Hercules says (yes, that Hercules. You'll meet him eventually) "On Olympus we measure power against Zeus, wisdom against Athena, speed against Hermes, but courage, we measure courage against Captain America"

The serum they injected Cap with IS related to the Hulk: Gen. Ross told Blonsky, in The Incredible Hulk, that the serum he gave to Banner to work on was part of the work trying to recreate the WWII program for super-soldiers: THATis Erskine’s formula, that IS Captain America’s serum. But, as we saw here, Erskine died after creating Cap. and the serum was lost. So the only thing the army had left to work on was Steve’s blood which they took after. Plus, the angle Banner was working on had to do with radiation resistance, hence why his serum had a different affect than Cap’s (also Banner’s genetics play a part with that different serum). It’s a little in the same way that the serum worked differently for Red Skull because it was a variant that was not as perfect as Cap’s version.
General Ross was trying to replicate the super soldier formula when he turned Bruce into the Hulk. He used a version of the formula on Blonsky.
Not just the Avengers, but the following Captain America films get better by leaps and bounds!
A good movie. The MCU really picks up speed with this one. And it only gets better from here.

Regarding the death of Dr. Erskine (Stanley Tucci), per Joseph Campbell's analysis of The Hero's Journey, the path to becoming a hero requires the death of the Hero's parent/mentor/teacher as a motivator to start them on their path.
Howard Stark is a lot like Howard Hughes. Howard was the wealthiest man of his time.
Tara, a quick suggestion. A small pair of field binoculars may help with your reactions. If l know you, your going to want to get right up close on this one. Especially right after his transformation. We all know how you reacted to Thor. At some point, you may want to consider reacting to ' 300 ' lots of this shirtless stuff going on there as well. This should be fun!
I also want to point out in the beginning when the commander guy threw the grenade, Carter ran towards it too

The beginning of the movie is a team finding the wrecked plane with Steve frozen in the ice (where you see Cap's shield) in the current day. Well current when the movie was made. As they said, the shifting ice pushed the plane back above the surface. The end is after they took him out and revived him. The serum is what kept him alive in the ice all that time. Everything else was the story of how he ended up in the ice.

The blue glowing thing they said was Odin's is the tesseract...the same thing the frost giants tried to steal in "Thor". It hasn't yet been explained how it got to Earth.
Captain America has self regenerating abilities so he was just frozen like cryogenics of today
Steve didn't want respect. He just wanted the opportunity to serve like the rest of the soldiers, with or without the super-soldier syrum.
I think there's an element of respect there, though. He wanted to prove that he could do his part, even though he'd been rejected (so often) for being too small.
Of course, combat troops only make up a minor part of the military effort. Steve could have gone to work in a war plant; the troops need guns, after all. But it's understandable he'd want to be doing the most direct part.

to answer your questions:
1st, nope, the Tesseract have nothing to do with Stark's chest-piece..
2nd, yes, the experiments done by Banner (w/ the govt) was trying to replicate the super-soldier serum Dr. Erskine did for Rogers..but, as Erskine is the only who knew the correct
serum, Banner's serum is kind of a miss from it..
I hadn't thought of it until Tara brought it up but Howard Stark did have access to the Tesseract for a long time so while Tony's chest-piece isn't directly related to it studying the energy of the Tesseract led to the creation of the Arc Reactor which led to the creation of Tony's chest-piece.
Superhero rule #1. You can't be a hero without losing a parent or mentor

A great Disney plus series is Agent Carter
Yeah, the Capt America character was created during WWII as basically American war propaganda. The whole "Star Spangled Man" sequence when he was doing theater to encourage people to buy war bonds is an homage to that. Also, him punching Hitler in the face during those shows is an homage to the first appearance of Capt America in the comic "Capt America issue #1" from 1941, which depicts him punching out Hitler on the comic's cover. At the end of the movie, when the kids are running through the streets with trashcan lids painted like his shield...that was something kids actually did.
Sorry I've commented so much, but this is one of my favorite MCU movies, and I'm also fascinated by WWII and especially the shifting attitudes and propaganda on all sides...so this movie is right up my alley. So, I will once again encourage you to react to "Jojo Rabbit".

Great reaction to a great movie. And such a trauma for Steve as well, but very cool and accurate to the long history of the character. 🙂
And this movie helped change my view on Tucci. But the first movie I saw him in he played a major jackwagon who put a woman's foot in his mouth, so, yeah, wasn't a fan... 😀

@@TaraTunesIn Jackwagon is my term I can use in any company, so it gets used a lot. 😀 Also, the film I mentioned is Big Trouble, starring Tim Allen and Rene Russo, and it is a great movie well worth watching.
BTW, there is a Captain Canada in the comics, but sadly he hasn't made it to the MCU...but maybe someday!
I hope he does someday for sure!! But I hope they wouldn't make him a cheesy, syrup guzzling, hockey stick weilding apologizer... haha there is a lot more to us than is commonly represented in American films :)

As far as suspending disbelief about the technology in the 40s, I think the idea is to pretend that the technology was really that advanced but hidden from the public. And there's a ton of folklore out there about Nazis having ridiculous tech. It's not true, but it helps support the idea for the sake of historical scifi.

When I was a kid, I thought Captain America was boring. Now, he's one of my favorites.
Just a note: The "Copyright" Watermark does nothing legally. It doesn't change whether or not you get a copyright strike. You're reviewing copyrighted material. You just have to pin down the fair use dance. The watermark might as well say "Olly Olly Oxen free". If you want a watermark, your name is better.
I appreciate the note, but the "copyright" thing seems to work for me. Having a watermark over the movie does effect whether or not the video is blocked for copyright, and allows me to leave longer movie clips in the video. I use the word COPYRIGHT, because that's what it is..

It is sad how many skip over the "Agent Carter" series. She has a life after losing Steve, after all, and you get a lot of back story on other "historical" MCU characters.
