"Who doesn't love a good Nazi beatdown?" Apparently, quite a few people, these days.
The glowing cube thing was originally called the "Cosmic Cube" in the comic books. But that was a kind of stupid name, so in the MCU, they call it the Tesseract. This is not just a made-up word. It actually means something. A tesseract is the four-dimensional analog of a cube. In two dimensions, you can have a square. If you "stretch" that square into a third dimension, you get a cube. If you then "stretch" that cube into a fourth dimension, you get a tesseract. (Five-dimensional and higher cubes don't have special names like that. They just call them "hypercubes". You could have a 5-dimensional hypercube, or a 6-D hypercube, or an 11-D hypercube, or whatever. Sometimes, they'll just say "5-cube" or "9-cube" or "n-cube" for short.)

To be fair, in Russia they only advertised it as "The First Avenger", never as Captain America 😅

The grenade scene during training: Steve was not the only one to approach the grenade. He was the quickest. If you rewatch, Agent Carter also headed towards eh grenade. He yells at her to get away as he curls over it. Some people say she knew it was a dud, but I disagree. If she new it was fake, she wouldn't have run towards it. She would have stayed still and watched. Thus, Peggy also was brave enough to sacrifice herself. Steve got there first.

Chris Evans was actually one of my favourite actors before being Captain America. No joke - and I loved him as the Human Torch in the Fantastic Four films (yes, I know but we had so few comic films back then and F4 in the comics are my family) so when he was announced as the actor for Steve I was both excited and nervous. I knew he was a great actor but at the same time, if he messed up my Steve Rogers?!? Then this film came out and he nailed it. Just nailed it. It was a crazy time.

    • @melodramatic7904
      @melodramatic7904 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

I am the same! I thought he was the best (and honestly only good) thing about the original F4 films. I was the opposite though. Captain America is a really boring character and so they needed someone really charasmatic to bring him to life and not sound like a stick in the mud. I know Chris was one of the only people who could pull that off.

Well if you're looking for continuity, you're in the right place - the MCU has so much of it that it becomes its own kind of giant puzzle book; there are details in this movie that will come up 14 movies later. And even the most cynical "I'm not sure if this comic book movie stuff is for me" reactor gets won over once you get to the Avengers, because you might feel one way or another about a particular character, but everyone wants to see how all those personalities and storylines are going to come together. It's the start of a long party, enjoy it 🥂🍿❤

Imagine experiencing this as it happened though, watching the MCU build and being amazed by just the fact we ever even got an Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America movie (as a comic fan) to begin with - let alone THE AVENGERS. Looking back without being in it at the time makes it seem obvious, like duh it’s the MCU now, but back then it felt crazy.

Captain America is so iconic there wasn't even an official title card. They panned down to the shield in the ice, then went straight into the movie. 😎

Steve and Bucky are the bromance that started a 1000 fanfics.
There was even an online petition to make them an in-canon couple. I guess those fans just conveniently forgot about Peggy.

You hit the nail on the head about 'there was no formula'. I say this because after the success of Ironman, The HULK underperformed enough for them to release another Ironman movie to 'shore up' their confidence and they never looked back.

u hit the nail on the head talking about old marvel versus new marvel and the organic-ness of the phase 1 movies… i used to be the biggest fan of marvel movies, i was RAISED by marvel movies, i was in kindergarten when they began with iron man and i was in high school watching endgame-the franchise meant SO MUCH to me during all those years. but the latest things that have been coming out, the shows and movies… they’re CGI-ed to hell and back, they look bad, and they feel shallow. not to mention, there’s so many of these shows and movies coming out now it’s all so fatiguing, feels like marvel’s prioritizing quantity over quality. watching u react to the first marvel movies is reminding me of how good marvel used to be… how much thought and care went into different choices and how much hype there was at the time… sigh. great reaction series!!! ❤️❤️🤯🤯

Steve didn't know how much power was left to Red Skull's plane. He knew there were bombs capable of taking out entire cities. Steve could see on the screen the empty territory he was approaching. There was no time to wait and see.

22:30 Just some insight, a vibration absorber materials will not transfer back the kinetic energy back to the object, like throwing a ball to a mattress the ball wouldn't bounce back, the thing that make this scene weird is because vibranium is metal but this is entirely fictional so just go with it 🤓

I don't want to spoil, but some thoughts, the only other person to not run from the hand grenade was Agent Carter, Steve was the nearest & quickest though, two heroes. After phase three quite a few things happen which (although I 100% agree with your comments). In no particular order, in their planning, not that we knew it back then those first three phases were like a story arc & after phase three completed their plans were to release no movies for a year. Then to basically start again, kind of, in phase four, we assume finishing again at the end of phase six. That starting again in first gear when we were travelling at 100 miles per hour, now with new characters being introduced, definitely challenging for some/many. As a side note after phase three there is much much good Marvel content which isn't in this MCU timeline that is worth checking out, as a kind of break, like Foxes X-men movies (maybe Fantastic Four too), the Marvel Netflix shows, particularly Daredevil (although my favourite was Jessica Jones), the Tobey Maguire & Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man movies. There are others, but these are all worth a look (longer story). Anyway phase three finished then three massive things all happen Covid (shows losing episodes, swapping release order, problems with reshoots), which affects so many things to do with filming, scheduling, production. The change of Disney CEO at Disney, now reverted back to the Bob Igor, so we know that went well. Also the introduction of Disney+ which then put additional pressures on Marvel, their now flag ship to not only to produce content, but when & in what format. Anyway when you add all that to Marvel trying to add more diversity to it's continually expanding World & then getting sucked into culture wars/American politics, well lets just say a lot of the negative noise is premature, they are still fairly early on in the next story arc, some great content, some great ideas, some great new characters. Also some criticism is either harsh, unfair, or exaggerated (culture war, sadly the movies that carry the most criticism usually have the most diversity). All that being said not every character or movie is for everyone, that would be stunning, an impossibility if they were. They haven't all been for me, but they all add to this greater story, bringing to life so many comics. Thank you for your great reactions & reviews, a comic fan/reader/collector, if you enjoy half as much as I have you will have a blast

Feige had announced where Phase 3 would end at least 5-6 years before Infinity War. How they'd reach there would change but the end was defined. Same for Multiverse saga.

I mean, Steve chose to go down cause that was the only choice that 100% secure no one besides him would get hurt. Calling Howard wasn't a 100% bet, what if he couldn't figure out what to do? Steve would've crashed in an habited area. Also, if you recall, Armin Zolla was considered to be smarter than Stark, Steve doesn't know what the bomb is about. That was the intelligent choice.

So this movie was for quite a long while lowest earning movie. It's a good movie but Steve Rogers is kinda like Superman, no villain has anything to exploit against him so he wasn't liked as much going into Avengers. Phase 2 changed that.
