    I'll try to write a seventeen syllable comment! Interesting and helpful film. I wish I had your freedom of approach. Having several paintings on the go is brave. It must give you freedom to experiment.

      Hi William I’m glad you enjoyed the video. I think freedom is something many of us have to work on and the techniques are devised to help that. Working in series is one such approach and quite a lot of artists work in this way. It means you can move on to another painting rather than getting stuck and too fiddly with one. It also enables different angles of the subject to be explored.

    I just found your video and subscribed right away, because I found it extremely useful, and because I have affinity with your style. The video seems to be done ESPECIALLY FOR ME, as after the holiday pause I now feel lost, and am trying to go back to my painting routine !! Thanks again and arrivederci !

    Thank you for sharing your process. I follow a few different artists and its nice to ‘compare and contrast’ (as I remember from school all those years ago when referring to essay-writing). It’s very generous of you sharing in this way. On Monday I actually did some sorting of my own art space-even though I work in sketchbooks rather than canvases I added another table which suddenly helped me ‘breathe’ in the space. I can see what you mean about the change in colour palette-The new one has more of a ‘weathered’ feel it seems.

      You are very welcome. I’m glad it was useful and I think reorganising a space is often inspiring to do and often nudges our work forward. Thanks as well about your comments on the colour palette - I agree - it’s more raw and edgy somehow!

    I've been struggling a bit to get back in to the work I was doing before the Christmas break and this was certainly helpful, thank you. As always, I love the small studies - they're fantastic, especially the view of the double page spread.

      Hi Jillayne I’m so glad the video is helpful. I think it takes a while after a break. Thanks too re the small studies - I think they are a great way of practicing marks and working out our preferences.

      @@LizAckerley I came across the paintings of Daniel Chubb the other day. There are some similarities in technique to your work, although the subject matter differs, also scale. They might be worth a look.

      Hi Giovanna I’m so glad it was useful. I agree it can be hard and it can be overwhelming too. I find these tips just help me to focus and take small steps rather than be overwhelmed by the bigger picture of having paintings to create and finish!

    Thanks Liz I’d be really interested in a more in depth look at journaling about art as it’s something I don’t do and not really sure how to start.

      You are very welcome. I do cover journalling in a number of my videos ( please check out the playlists). In this video I explain specifically what I write about so that’s a good start point for you. I may try to cover as well in some of my videos this year, so please watch out for them.

    Thanks for sharing your tips Liz, I like the idea of exploring a different colour palette and how you said “it wasn’t telling the whole story”. That’s a great way to assess the colour palette. 🎨

    These seem like great backgrounds. Do you ever finish your paintings?

    • @LizAckerley
      @LizAckerley  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Sue I don’t really create backgrounds and yes I am usually working in series to produce finished paintings. All the work on my channel is sharing different stages of the process. There are several finished series shared on here including my Wild Flora series : th-cam.com/video/Zh3jkCf4a8M/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Kh6DpbiVka-V8sZ2 and Landscape inside out which is in my exhibitions playlist.

    Too muddy neutral. Try using a fluorescent color to highlight your colors. 🙏🏼😊

    • @LizAckerley
      @LizAckerley  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi - at the moment I’m exploring this different palette -if it’s the small studies you are referring too. Fluorescent would be too much for the feel I am after but the vat orange should provide enough brightness vs the neutrals. The subject matter warrants some more muddy colours. As with a lot of art- it really is dependent on the intention and what we are trying to say.
