    I owned a 2006 FJR, sold it for a 2016 Super Tenere. I loved the Tenere and it is super comfortable but I missed the incredible roll on thrust of the FJR. I sold the Tenere and got another FJR.

    I think it's great that you are taking the time to film your opinions on two fantastic motorcycles. I've owned 2 FJR's ('06 & '14) and currently have a '16 Super Ten. I'd be completely happy with any of them. My thoughts are you're comparing apples to oranges though. The FJR is a sport touring bike and as such has a more condensed cockpit for the "sport" aspect. It's an extremely capable long distance rider. Many of the competitors in the IronButt Rally choose the FJR for that 10,000 mile event because of the ergonomics it possesses. It also has an inline 4 cylinder engine which is why it develops that top end power.
    The Super Tenere is for a different rider. The 2 cylinder parallel configuration is why it has the low end, tractor like, performance that shines in an off pavement environment. It's totally capable of long distances in a comfortable position but is set up so you can stand on the pegs for off road riding. The FJR wallows on gravel and is very expensive to fix if you put it on it's side. That is why I went to the Super Tenere. When I take my trips out west, I've seen too many cool dirt roads and mountain passes that I was not willing to take the Feej on. The Tenere is built just for that and is the perfect bike for my needs.
    The main aspect of both bikes is that they are dead on balls reliable (Yamaha!) and easy to work on if you have even minor mechanical abilities like me. You've made 2 good choices.

      Thank you for comparing and contrasting these two great bikes.I'm on the fence between the Tenere and the FJR at the moment.With covid,neither are available around my neck of the woods,and dealers have no idea when they might be getting any in stock.Gives me time to think more.

      @@travelinben1966 Well, you will be happy with either. Probably the biggest factor you have to consider is what you want to do most. Saturday, We rode some 4X4 trails in the Talladega National Forest that would be impossible on the FJR. I smashed my skid plate so many times the FJR would have bled out. I've also done track days on the FJR at Barber Motorsports. You have a decision to make but it's sure a fun dilema to be faced with.

      I'm 6'1 and I would not choose the FJR for an IronButt rally hehe Comfort is very subjective and height/weight greatly impacts comfort. The Tenere is MUCH more comfortable for taller riders. Riders under 5'8" will have plenty room on most bikes.

    Great revew! Sold my FJR and bought the Super Tenere miss the performance, looks, sound plus the wind and weather protection. The S10 is better for me as I'm 6'2 and mature therefore it's more comfortable and easier to ride. Way less energy needed for windy roads. On the freeway S10 cruising on 120kph needed a little more throttle and uses more fuel than the FJR. If I had the money I'd have both however because of my size and age the Tenere suits me better.

    I have a 2015 Super Ten and a 2004 FJR and couldnt be happier with the pair. Once I year I do a 3 week tour on the Tenere [lots of gravel] and when I`m in the mood for some high speed cornering the Fjr comes in. Both so easy to maintain. I feel complete :}

    Great stuff! Currently have a 2019 Africa Twin and looking at the Super Tenere ES...Update, just found this video again, after owning 2 Super Tens. I have also tried an FJR, and I would say if you are tall and comfort is a criteria, the ST winds hands down.

    Thanks for the Vid. I’ve had both and I think the Tenere is smoother. The FJR has a buzz that numbs your hands. The Tenere you’ll never get numb hands.

      Haha, My hands are numb nowadays even after a few kms on my Super Tenere... It might be something going on with my body or the fact that my handlebar is a bit unbalanced at the moment thx to missing the end knob from the right end of the handlebar. Gonna get it sorted Tuesday when the garage will be open. My next bike will be the FJR. Had the Super Tenere for 19000 miles by now. But to be honest, I am just hoping that I will stumble across something that can smoothen the vibes going through the bars so I can keep riding my Super10.

    I felt this was comparing apples with oranges. One is a sport touring bike and the other is an adventure bike. The fjr1300 is faster, but it will never take you to the places where the Super Tenere can take you.

    Very timely to appear on my recommended videos as I’ve just spent the last week trying to decide between the two. I love the Japanese in line fours but I also prefer to sit ‘in’ the bike than ‘on’ the bike. I’m also worried about the heat issue as I live in southern Spain and I have 1 kilometre gravel road to my house. So everything points to the Tenere but I love the power and smoothness of the four cylinder bikes.

    My wife loves the T10 and I prefer the FJR.
    In the twistys the FJR bottoms out with both of us, and that's the main reason my wife prefers the S10.
    By the way, Nick Sanders did over 750k miles on his Yamaha's without a single brakedown.

    I have a flashed '14 S10 and a stock FJR. I love them both but I have to disagree with your perception of the low and midrange power. My S10 did pick up a ton of low and midrange when I had her flashed it still pales in comparison to the FJR which makes tons of usable power from idle to red line. 6th gear passes, even loaded and 2 up are a snap from anything over 40mph on the FJR.

      @@VehicleHunter The vfr1200x was a great bike for solo touring and very comfortable for me, but it wasn’t so great for my wife on long distance. Also, the throttle was really jerky. I have a tw200 for off-road / adventure riding, and the fjr is perfect as a daily driver for where I live. It feels like a Cadillac, the VFR was more like a full size truck in comparison. If I get another adventure bike, it will very likely be a super tenere. I regret not getting it over the VFRx

  • @carsyoungtimerfreak1149
    @carsyoungtimerfreak1149 ปีที่แล้ว

    I believe you're comparing apples to oranges. The FJR is a pretty bike, not as pretty as a ST, but still nice to look at. The FJR is probably together with Honda's VFR one of the best sports tourers. It is more sporty than a ST or a BMW RT. Weight is not a problem once you ride. Oh and older guys can still bend, I'm 70 and one of my bikes is a VFR... And there is beauty in adventure bikes, they are all absolutely ugly... If you do a lot of riding all year round, my advise is to look at what Police forces are using most of the time. In most countries these are true touring bikes, with BMW dominating this market. Yet quite a few Police forces do use the FJR... And you can commute very well on a (sports) tourer, I do it almost every day...

    FJR= not practical, Super 10= practical. The fjr although got praises for its " sound" or smoothe engine, in reality it buzzes and, would you buy a bike for its sound? Everyday rider will buy a bike for how it rides and reliability, usability and ease of repair. Inline four are the worst choice for a motorcycle. My opinion. Go super10!👍

    • @kennethmcdonald4807

      I-4's suck only if you hate smooth, reliable power, longevity and ease of maintenance. I had an '85 FJ1100 back in the day, and the straight cut primary gear makes a turbine-like whine that's totally addictive and in keeping with the character with of that awesome motor. I love my SV650 also, but for a bunch of different reasons.

      Everyone replaces motorcycle exhausts so noise isn’t a good reason. The thing is the FJR hits the performance high of reaching 130 within 5 seconds of being in stuck in traffic with no hesitation and u are still comfortable to carve corners over 100..for people like me who crush highways to go anywhere it’s a no brainer choice
