Well you know a lot of Jiu jitsu is practiced today evolved off of what he has done. A certain Gordon Ryan owes his career to. We all praise danaher, but look at Gordon’s game and Marcelo.
He is the pound for pound goat for sure. I think Marcelo and Gordon’s careers will be seen like Karelin and Saitiev. One was the most dominant wrestler we’ve ever seen and the other the most technical.
Not taking anything away from Gordon, he earned it. However, Marcelo was also technical. You can't be that small and that precise with your attacks without being a masterful technician. He was a master at scrambles but locked onto people like a viper.
Yea but Marcelo is a savage in the gi as well...and has produced elite level talent underneath him as well?....yea I legit think there is zero comparison at this point he is THE GOAT. Who knows, maybe once Gordon has an entire career under his belt we can have this debate. But until then, there is just no point in speculating or debating the issue.
@@aplus1080 the general concensus in the community is that he competed natural. I mean, the guy is tiny. He always had big legs and maintained his physical attributes all his life with little change - PED user's physical attributes fluctuate.
P4P is super subjective. Everyone imagines small guys bigger but still the same speed but they never picture big guys faster at the same strength. Neither would happen, of course. Bruno Malfacine and Rafa Mendes are smaller weight class guys that would give Marcelo a run for his money P4P. I think Roger is the best by any measure.
Hey buddy, 43 year old 4 stripe white belt here.. I've only been training for 16 months and have watched A LOT of TH-cam videos trying to get better with information from multiple content providers. I feel guilty saying I'm just now stumbling onto your channel. This video here is by far my favorite. I'm a lighter weight fighter, 155lbs, and Marcelo Garcia has become my most favorite grappler to copy his game and use it in mine. Obviously I'm nowhere close to his level but I've been using X guard like crazy the past few months of training. This video is what I've been searching for. Someone who breaks down content in a visual context and explains it so well that a greenhorn like myself can understand and use it to my advantage. You're an incredible talent sir, I really appreciate and enjoy your videos . Bravo 🥋💪👍
I love Marcelo’s Jiu Jitsu, just after getting my purple belt another purple belt put me up on his MG action. That’s where I developed my Guillotine and SLX game I still use today! Definitely the 🐐! Great breakdown!💯
Marcelo didn't invent any of these moves. He popularized them. Marcelo showed a way to play a systematic, efficient game in Nogi grappling. DDS was the evolution of that approach, but it's way more intricate than just a "Marcelo copy + paste with heel hooks".
That was a nasty guillotine when the guy tried to bridge and turn into him and his neck was all contorted. Ouch lol Great vid! Do you write scripts for your vids btw?
Yeah, he damn near turned his head around backwards 😂 I tried out a script on the last couple ones. It helps to get back on track when I start getting scatter brained.
Some traditional Korean BBQ places will cook for you if you let them, but they will cook the whole plate at once so you will probably feel rushed to eat it (never feel that way) hoping you’ll order more 😂.
Marcelo is one of my favorite grapplers but Roger was much more dominant than he was. Was rarely in trouble, never submitted, finished most of his opponents while making them look like beginners. Not to mention he was away from jiu jitsu competition for many years, came back and submitted Buchecha like it was nothing. At the end of the day, who cares, they're both legends.
@@tommytommy2For me Marcello is cooler than Roger. I like his personality better, his moves, his techniques, and his style a lot better. Roger was good but I didn't like his basic style. Garcia was creative and innovative. He's small beating bigger opponents. Roger had a size advantage that helped him a lot to win. Physicality is a big advantage. Garcia never enjoyed a physical advantage. So it is harder for him because he never faced smaller opponents. Garcia was better than Roger at north south choke, giotine, and butterfly game. Roger probably had a better closed guard than Garcia. That was his style.
The High Elbow Guillotine allow you to finish even if your opponent passes to the "safe side" side control if you are able to stay on your side. Shit is cheating 😂
As someone who started way after Marcelos hay day, his stuff is still super fresh. Probably the most influential nogi guy at least.
Yes! He was so ahead of his time.

My favorite grappler of all time. I watched him so much growing up. I’m so happy he’s beating cancer!
If we're all brutally honest, Marcelo is the real goat. I mean, the guy was the smallest, most effective, not on PEDs and the nicest guy in the sport.

Welcome! Glad you found the channel.
Theres a video on youtube called: "Marcelo Garica will choke you and it will hurt".
I watch that video a couple of times each year
That video is (g)old

DDS just took all of Marcelo's techniques and added heel hooks
or Roger Gracie's.

@@forwardgrappling heavily borrowed from Saulo Ribeiro and Dean Lister too
He is the epitome of BJJ, small guy that would choke anybody out regardless of weight class...and friendly
not even watched yet, i agree, thumbs up, 10/10 video. Based
Fantastic video. Marcelo’s my favorite grappler ever
Best one so far!
brilliant overview
The Korean BBQ analogy got me. 😂 Great video man!
Great videos!!!! 👊🏻🥋
Powerhalf from an butterfly arm drag is my go to chain. Works like a charm as long as you have the right hook in.
good stuff. Marcelo is the goat to me
Marcelo is always going to be #1 for me
I actually thought the arm on your hair was a half sleeve. Very cool.😂
This is very helpful I’m a white belt, great video!
Nice video
Dude is a beast!
I need that..thanks
This video is great
I love Korean BBQ and this breakdown! Nice work mayne
😂 thank you!

Actually your video on Bernardo Faria is what made me feel the need for a script. Felt really organized and professional.
@@grapplingwithjiujitsu oh wow thanks 🙏
In an alternate universe is there a Garcelo Marcia that revolutionized jiu.jitsu?
You're a skateboarder?! Rad!
Another sport to ruin my body with 😂
Too true! 😆@@grapplingwithjiujitsu
I concur. 🐐

Bro this is a great video but the lights in the background really distract a lot :) It just might be me and my ADHD.
Gotcha, I think I’m going to try mess with the lighting in the next one. Thanks for watching!
Which jiu jitsu stars had amazing wrestling and bad jiu jitsu before Marcelo?
How come you put MG above Roger? Roger was never submitted whereas MG was submitted quite a few times. Mostly to heavier opponents, but still.

Shirt change...
Almost took a 4th one for this video lol
Gordon is better.
I love TH-cam…half the time Gordon Ryan only wins because of steroids, the other half he’s the GOAT.
@grapplingwithjiujitsu and Marcelo wasn't?
@@frankiecal3186 I'd say Rafael Mendes is better.
@@frankiecal3186 Of course he wasn't, look at his body
Looks like Gordon has fake accounts on TH-cam too
Yeah he’s goated for real
