Music video by The Human League performing The Lebanon. (C) 2003 Virgin Records Ltd - เพลง
As a Lebanese person, this song touches me immensely. Thank you, Human League, for your sensitivity and commitment.
2024. This song remains a masterpiece.
Sadly the Lebanese people are still suffering💔.
Born 1969 in Lebanon.
This is my JAM!
For 1984 the camera quality is phenomenal!
My guess would be that it might be because it's on film, rather than videotape
(Remastered 2003) the title
@@johnmorris910 That was just for the audio, the video was digitized as HD from a clean print in 2018
The 1984 cameras were great, you are just used to shitty TV rips from the time.
Funny how this song never loses the ability to be up to date thru the ages. Even today it's still up to date and relevant.
I recently saw Human League at Darker Waves, this song was very edgy back then and it's still is
Probably more relevant today than ever. Tremendous band.
¡Una canción valiente será nueva siempre!
Sad that it is still relevant :)
who is watching this in 2021 and thinking "i wish i was back there then" .. i was! great times.....and it was at this moment that you realized how great this band was.....!
Totally agree!!!
i was there, gandalf, 3000 years ago.

When the soliders have gone, from the Lebanon… Still one of the greatest songs ever!
2024. This song remains a masterpiece!!!!
"Seconds" is another under rated song...
Personally, best song ever from Human League!
Strangely appropriate now.
Praying for peace in the Middle East 🙏🏼

Take care.
Arnt we all , God bless to all reading this
There's been holy wars since the beginning of time...
Me too,not gonna hold my breath though.
This is one of the most under rated songs of the eighties.
Agree 100%
totally, I just happened to listen to it properly for the first time.
Possibly of all time.
@@samsundquist Okaaaaay, don't exaggerate too much!
YES!! so apropos even for today! Just substitute any nation in conflict for Lebanon. Ukraine comes to mind.
I am Lebanese and so proud! I was young when my dad made me listen to that song and told me about the war ... this song still applies for the whole world! Peace!

Always and forever, thank you to Great Britain and the British people whose creativity, since the 1960s, has given the rest of the World hundreds of unique bands such as the Human League and music of unparalleled beauty, quirkiness and atmosphere. What would our lives have been without British bands? Thank you from Sicily.
What a lovely sentiment Benedetto, thank you from England!
Now it's only American rappers and singers who are popularized. Has there been any world-famous British artist in the past 10 years?
@@Ozymandias1 Well, there is Radiohead, one of the best alternative bands to get well-known, Primal Scream are still making great records, Massive Attack, David Bowie within the last 10 years, although they did begin their careers earlier. But I agree, the 'charts' are absolute rubbish. I am astounded at what passes for music today

That girl is just... Whatever, rita or a - seen it all before (rihanna clone:(....), Adele is kinda EXTREMELY OVERRATED.... I think that's about it for the last few years... Quite sad really
Never thought I’d say this about The Human League but the guitars are astounding on this tune.
Reminds me more of U2 or simple minds.
@@garibaldi54cannot agree more
Fantastic band. I love how they evolved over the years.
It’s Joe Callis ? ex Rezzilos Saved that Band a think x
That camerawork is shockingly crisp for the 1980s.
They don’t just sound great they look great too. Hugely underrated song IMHO. Incredible to see a synth band showing how to use guitars to amazing effect
Yes, it is. Great song for modern lovers. Nice work if a person can get it.
They should have used guitars more 🤗
So true. The guitar makes it. What a band !! 4 kids from Sheffield creating legends.
I don't think Phil, Susanne and Joanne ever looked any better than in this video.
Guitars are out there..Beautiful band
I have heard of this great band for years. This is the first time I read the lyrics to this song.. I am half Lebanese and never got to go there because of the terrible wars etc. Thank you so much for recognizing the Lebanese.😢😊
Phil is part Lebanese I think. It impacted their career in the US as didnt fit the narrative. Peace 🕊
Be well friend

the bass intro... One of the most epic if you asking me...
Still listening to this in 2021!
Great songs never die
Me too,from1981,Grest band!
Same here!
Yes sure one of their best songs. Hard to beat that early 80s feel, its huge.
Bravo. Mark! 😉
yesterday, today, tomorrow, all time the best the human league
Very apt for modern times across the world 🌍 weren’t we supposed to keep the peace ✌️
Oh good Lord Joanne looks perfect here.
Iv always thought that about Phillip in this particular video, though he has always been perfect to me
Is Joanne the brunette?
@@indyjones1135 Yes
They all look perfect
This is such a beautiful song. Personifies the mood and atmosphere of the 80s perfectly.
Yeah it does...Great Sheffield band..I believe Phil Oakwy still loves there
This song echoes to the current theater of conflict in europe as this delt with the statehood of israel and inconvenient truth's.
@@steven-napoleonwilliams1422 Israel is still bombing its neighbors 40 years later, they just bombed the Damascus International Airport this week.
Thanks....I would like to visit...........LEBON..........
@@johnosgraveyardjaunts2235 Yes, The Human League has remained in their hometown, all of these years.
2024,still love it❤
The Human League indeed. They should have gotten a Humanitarian of The Year award with this song back in 1984 when this beautiful song of freedom came out. I'm sure it wasn't a very popular stance at the time so no surprise there. Pray for peace in Lebanon and for the women and children of Gaza.✝️🙏
🙏
nostalgic i can feel goosebumps and memories of my high school days the best years of my life, so simple then'
A timeless song for many good and, tragically, sad reasons.
I love Suzanne and Jane!! ❤🤩😍🤩😍
It's Susan Sulley & Joanne Catherall! And yes, still crushing on them big time 😍
One of the best songs from the 80s, the best decade in music

Now looking at the hypocrites from that era like Bono, Madonna...wanting socialism in America of all places when they have become rich and famous thanks to Western freedom and Capitalism.

I agree. I love 80's music.
This transcends time .I was 14 at a school disco now I'm 50 and it evokes the same response .
Same here 47 and same feeling
one of the best records of the 80's The lyrics say so much.
That bass kills..great song
Ah! That sharp guitar sound, those magic keyboards with the pounding drums , those 2 girls' voices, the bass intro...what an unforgettable song!
Even better live, as I found out tonight :)
What song?
6581 punk I completely agree. I've seen them a few times and even their most recent live performances are still very much on point.
@@davidlewis1787 THE LEBANON
Sabrina Gameplays Br lol, was joking, THL are great
This is the best of Human League's songs.
That bridge is sublime
It’s now2023 and I’m listening to this fucking amazing song
And listening to the words not just singing them.
This should have been a much much bigger hit than it was.
Simple straight to the point lyrics
They were picked on by the so called music critics for using the line ' used to be some shops' but what they were expressing is how simple life was and then the girls come in, quite hard I have to say " is where the snipers sometimes hide" that sends shivers, can you imagine living in that kind of fear. Phil had a friend in Lebanon who would send him art work and communicate to him of the atrocities and that's when he made this song
I bought this as a vinyl single when it was released first. That was many years ago and the soldiers are still in the Lebanon and elsewhere in the Middle East. Pray for peace 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Pray for lebanon 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
That beautiful country and her beautiful people have been through too much.

So relevant- and it was banned by BBC all those years ago.
Canzone fantastica ,bellissima ,sempre attuale e ascoltabile, canzone senza tempo😍😍😍👍
First time hearing this song. Love it!
Descobrindo essa música em 2024 ❤
Hugely and criminally underrated
Oh gods, Philip is so handsome here, I can't stop having my eyes glued on him! The perfect look!
How did such a harrowing song manage to sound so appealing and still be so powerful in meaning. Absolute genius
Same with ‘seconds’ which is also very powerful.
Simple and fantastic! The Human League is one of the best 80's sounds!
They ARE the 80's..
2024 and the story repeats but now we see the end of the Lebanon. :(
I am a boomer, born in 1964: „The Lebanon“ has been one of the greatest songs of the 80‘ies, with a content for tears for this sad country after almost 40 years!
Human League really puts you in a good mood, They don't get enough praise
You know what, one of the best things about being in my 50's now is that I lived my teenage years in the 80's..........Priceless and I wouldn't change them for the world!🇬🇧
Concordo
The best of new wave
Super song. There was such an explosion of British music, in the 80's just like in the 60's
They are all so unspeakably gorgeous at that time 😍🤩
Relaxed and at the top of their game.
Truly brilliant. The pride of Sheffield
yeah, Sheffield has quiet a few good bands actually, The Human League being my all time favourite, but we also have Pulp, Heaven 17, ABC, The Arctic Monkeys, Def Leppard to name but a few, I am quite happy to be living here....;-)
Thanks Sheffield. :-)
Blades.
The Human League were never a band but a 'pop group', the term to describe pop acts from the 60s onwards. I'm certain the HL do not wish to be labelled a rock band or any other type of band.
The word band emerged over the past 20 years due to dire Simon Cowell and his X Factor BS.
@@kevinmichael2023 so what? I think band is just the American version of group... I don’t think THL very much care about it,they are so laid back
1:33 What beautiful eyes
⁰⁰
Who? They all do
Really beautiful eyes!
I was too young to understand this song back then.
One of Phil's best looks with the longer hair and ever so present guyliner.
You simply cannot beat the 80s sway of the girls. LOVE IT!
yeah same for fsshion shows 80's and 90's an other fun, grace and charm.
Obsessed with Beirut. 💝
hope for a world without songs like this on Ukraine.
Remember the 80's...........💜💜💜
best bassline in history
When this song first came out all I could think is peace in Middle East ,now 2024 my heart is broken 💔
Les années 80 probablement nos meilleures instants de bonheur.
Vraiment
Amazing ladies... Amazing group...We danced it at the discos of Greece when we were young...
What? Like drugs?!
its amazing how this song is still just wonderfully written and the lyrics could as easily have been written about syria recently. Susan and Joanne just sum up early 80s new romantic looks too. Iconic stuff
Stop the suffering of children in both sides 😢
The golden age of the new romantic style!!! One of the best song ever!! Beers from Uruguay!!
Oscar Belza u do know the song is about the lebanese civilwar hahahahahaha
🇺🇾 nomá
Oscar Belza Agree with you Oscar. Raising a can of ice cold Bulgarian beer to your good health. Cheers!
Definitely one of the best songs ever
Kelly14UK, I fully agree with you. This song is definitely one of the best songs ever just like so many of The Human League's other hit. After learning that this song reached #11 on the UK pop charts and #13 on the NZ pop charts, I felt the song should've peaked in the Top 10. Still, I've loved this song since I first heard it in 1984 and I always will.
stop talking shit man its 1 of there worse
My favorite song from Human League and probably the most under rated of their hits IMO.
Best bass guitar
intro ever
Remember the shock when I first heard this back in 1984. Those screechy guitars were so unexpected from a previously all electronic band. After shock had subsided loved the song!
Yes,caught people by surprise all right. The only other Western pop song I'd heard (unless there are any that have slipped my mind) before then dealing with the subject was the one Mr Sarstedt did in summer 1978 called Beirut - Crumbling Stone By Stone. Bit of different vibe to this one!
Phil later admits that they were brow-beaten into using electric guitars and it was a betrayal of everything the Human League stood for.
@@smguy7 Well then Phil was an arsehole. Playing guitar doesn't necessarily make you sound like bluesy or some Zeppelin fartsy stuff.
A true 80's "modern classic"
An excellent song and what a good-looking musical group 🎶🎵
Phhil takes has such intense eyes, very expressive eyes,😍
I remember when this song came out. I don't know if I bought it right away or a friend came over and put it on my turn table. All I know is that the sound of this production was AWESOME - so powerful, and remains so to this day. Never saw this video before. Its pretty much amazing.
And the ladies were spectacularly beautiful
One of my Human League's faves... Just love the guitars and the basslines! Btw these basslines make me shiver. HL simply rule!!!
I miss the 80's....
Se ve IMPRESIONANTE éste video, parece grabado en HD,
muy BUEN GRUPO,
GRACIAS por compartir y un CORDIAL SALUDO a todos los AMANTES de la BUENA MÚSICA.
Top quality video. They were at the top of their game back then. Awesome tune. Always had a crush on the dark haired girl
A masterpiece of the 80' !!!!
THE MAGIC OF THE Eighties, OUR YOUTH, NOW AWAY, THE SCHOOL, THE HOLIDAYS, AND THIS SONGS IS DURING THE DAY, AND YOU SAY A LITTLE? ...GREETINGS FROM ITALY ✋🇮🇹✋ ... HOW MANY MEMORIES
I love the bass solo in the beginning of the song.
Those 2 ladies 👍👌🙌😍
Absolutely brilliant song, and sadly, today it remains as relevant as ever:
[Verse 1]
She dreams of 1969
Before the soldiers came
The life was cheap on bread and wine
And sharing meant no shame
She is awakened by the screams
Of rockets flying from nearby
And scared, she clings onto her dreams
To beat the fear that she might die
[Chorus]
And who will have won
When the soldiers have gone?
From the Lebanon
The Lebanon
[Verse 2]
Before he leaves the camp he stops
He scans the world outside
And where there used to be some shops
Is where the snipers sometimes hide
He left his home the week before
He thought he'd be like the police
But now he finds he is at war
Weren't we supposed to keep the peace
[Chorus]
And who will have won
When the soldiers have gone?
From the Lebanon, the Lebanon
The Lebanon, from the Lebanon
[Bridge]
I must be dreaming
It can't be true
I must be dreaming
It can't be true
[Chorus]
And who will have won
When the soldiers have gone?
From the Lebanon, the Lebanon
The Lebanon, from the Lebanon

Wow he’s singing for my country Lebanon 👍🏼
He's enchanting, what a beautifu man.
Memories of youth are the best. Great sound even today.
This was such an odd single at the time from Human League. But man what a great song this is in retrospect. Way ahead of its time.
I always loved this record.
Great song. Great group.
I’ve been to see them a few times most recently 2019 never disappoint his voice is brilliant even now
How to choose a serious political subject & turn it into a rip roaring guitar fused toe tapping finger clicking piece of musical greatness. The great Phil Oakey at his supreme best
Yes
Judge the music by the year it was made in - not the current political enviroment.
Simon Anderson The music still provides one hell of a punch because so little has changed since 1984.
The political situation is just as hideous today as it was then. It takes guts to write and perform a track like The Lebanon when 99.9% of artists will run away hiding from deeply held convictions in case their record label shits themselves and dumps them.
Yes, also because they succeeded in achieving great success,
but sometimes just considered superficially "new romantics"
A serious and volatile subject made into a respectful new wave song.
God the Brits made some brilliant movie back in the 80s, as an Aussie I salute you!
Das Mittelstück 2:10min. ist auch so toll ;). Schöne Musik aus schönen Zeiten :).
