Actually, this is a classical dance of Ryu Kyu which comes before the Japanese dominance upon the island of Okinawa…even the language is different and it is under extinction…I learned to speak the language of Okinawa but cannot speak Japanese fluently…they are almost completely different from each other…
@@mrphantom8608 Most Japanese people cannot understand Ryukuyan languages just like Berliners can't understand Swabian and how Parisians can't understand Provincal. It's not an exaggeration.
i grew up watching my obaa-san and her friends dance, one would even dance wearing geta with the castanets. we would attend the annual obon celebration...would this be the proper forum to ask if anyone knows the "dance of the coal miner's daughter?" it was the only dance i was taught...i know the lyrics phonetically and have been desperately trying to relearn or find some place i can try to regain some of my family's history. also, thank you so much for sharing, this has brought back very fond memories.
I learned to speak the language of Okinawa because I was born there and didn’t go to school to learn the Japanese language..and my father used to play the sanshin and my elder sister used to dance all of those dancings, the classical and the folkloric of Okinawa… so could you please write the title of that song in Okinawan language but in English characters? For example, I used to dance ( when I was a child) a song with this lirics: “ashibi jiyu nagachi…hatarachu nu hitu nu kukuru urishisa ya..yusunu shiyumi (repeat) yuiya sasa! Yusunu shiyumi…it was 65 years ago….and the Okinawan language is under extinction unfortunately…
FAKTAAV GADO2 lol.. how do u know, even many ordinary okinawan didnt.know the relation between Nusantara and Ryukyu, it is reflected in music ( scale), dance (hands.gesture similar to that Balinese), some historians would agree on this. you can try listen Gamelan Yunta or performances of Sanga Gamelan from Okinawa.
I have always found a similarity between the musical scales and 'feeling' of javanese and okinawan music, and some instances of chanting in okinawan music sound to me more akin to southeast asian music than to chinese or japanese music, but I thought it was only me overthinking it
So simillar with Javanese pelog music scale. Feels like watch a Japanese dance with Javanese music.
Yes,exactly

@@nobukoaccorsi2755 Both Ryukyuan language and Japanese language belongs to the Japonic language family. Stop exaggerating!
I do find Okinawan music pretty unique and it does remind me of Javanese music. Although the hand movement might be due to Buddhist influence.

the level of refinement is breathtaking
around 1:18, zo odori reminds me of the syncopated, rhythmic music I heard as a child. very nostalgic... i hope they will perform in Los Angeles.
Very elegant!

チバリョウウウ ウチナアンチュウ!
Mirip nada pelog jawa asal indonesia hampir persis
The music and some dance movements remind me.of Javanese gamelan and dance. I wonder if there is a historical connection?
Are u sure it’s not because of Buddhist influence? Javanese were probably Hindu or Buddhist before they adopted Islam.

I guess,( prior to subjugation by the Satsuma clan,) Ryukyu was strongly influenced by china as can be seen in this dance.
The music was so similar with Javanese music
