Thanks for watching and I hope the video was helpful. I’m curious about the background noise though, because using a single microphone in mono mode, should not necessarily create background noise. What did it sound like?
Just ordered one of these thanks for the excellent review. I fish and film and I needed an affordable system. I was using a corded system but it kept getting snagged. I also didn’t feel like paying $450 Australian for the Rode. Can’t wait for it to turn up!

That's the microphone I chose. My only problem at the moment is that if I plug it into the phone, no audio sound on the phone comes out. So in a video chat they can hear me perfectly, but I can't hear the other party. If I choose hands-free during a call, the problem is that it disconnects the connected USB microphone. Do you have any ideas how I could use this microphone in a Zoom conference or in a car, for example?
I know what you're talking about. The problem is that phones tend to be all or nothing: if something's plugged in, audio in AND out is routed to that device, even if it's not equipped to output anything. You could get a splitter cable to separate the headphones output and mic input, and then stick earbuds in your ears...which kind of defeats the purpose. These just aren't intended to be used that way, unfortunately.
Thanks for watching! The outdoor shots were on a Sony ZV-1, and the studio shots were with a Panasonic Lumix GH4 (which is quite old!). I have since upgraded to a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4k for the studio shots, but still use the GH4 occasionally (and use the ZV1 all the time).
Hi Matt, how are you? It's me again between this buoy mic and hollyland lark m1, which one is better? Which one records audio better? Thank you, I hope you can answer me soon, greetings.
Hi, Danny! I haven't had any experience with the Hollyland products, sorry. The Boya doesn't record internally, if that's what you meant. But if you mean overall sound quality...I don't know!
I just tried a headset/lightning port adapter cable with the M1V series, and I can't get it to work on my phone. I think you need the phone-specific model, rather than the version aimed at cameras (which is what I have). They do include a TRS-to-TRRS cable if you have a dedicated input on your phone, but that doesn't apply to iPhones.
Thanks for your kind words! To answer your question, it depends on how you're using this. If you're using it with a camera and a 3.5mm input, then go with the M1V2. I declined to review the Boyalink because of how it connects to cameras. If you're using it only with a phone, then I'd probably go with the Boyalink.
Thanks for your information btw I watched your video more than 3 times HH I will use it with a camera but if I'm going to use it with a phone I think I will buy a jack or something like that because my main source of video recording is a camera
This model works on an iPhone (or android) if you use a mini jack converter cable. However, Boya makes a version that plugs directly into an iPhone, no cable required. M1V5 and V6. I have not tested those particular models though. Thanks for your comment!
i bought it, thank you! i record classes, but the phone app that is used, the BOYA app, is only in Chinese and it is not functioning well. do you have an idea for which app i can use on my phone while recording?
Yes...IF you have the Media Mod for the GoPro 10. Without that, you can't input external mics of any sort to the 10. (There may be third party ways to get audio into the 10, but I don't know for sure). I have this same issue with my GoPro 8 and bought a Media Mod so I could use external mics and a little selfie monitor. But yes, the M1V2 will work with it if you have the Mod.

Hi, Fatih! Thanks for watching. I tested the version that uses a 3.5mm cable. This is designed for camera inputs, but you could use this model with an audio adapter cable to your phone. Boya DOES make versions of this mic set that specifically plug into iPhone and Android phones, but I haven't tried those specifically. The audio quality is very good for the price. Hi, Danny! I haven’t tested the WMic5 system so I don’t know how it sounds. However, I do know that the m1v series sounds pretty good. Also, the m1v includes an input for external mics (such as a lav or shotgun), which the wmic5 does not. Since they’re the same price, I’d go with the m1v.
It should! I can't confirm 100% but I don't see any reason it wouldn't work on a computer's USB-C port. I don't have the USB-C version, just the minijack one.
Yes. I tested the version that has a mini jack output, so you'd need a 3.5mm-to-USB-C converter for it to work with your phone. They also make the BY-M1V4, which has a dedicated USB-C receiver.
Yes! It just means you have a little more cable hanging down from your receiver, and that you're using the analog signal rather than a digital one. Personally, I think that's a better option because you're not stuck with ONLY using the wireless system on your iPhone.
@@MatthewHaines Thanks for the info, I do use my mirror less camera, Ios device as well as my usb C android device for content creating. so will there be any effect in sound quality?

If you''re using it on a camera, then playback isn't affected. You can listen to playback as you usually would, either through the camera's tiny speakers or through its headphone jack. If you're plugging this in to a phone, then yes, you'll have to unplug the Rx to play back your audio. Boya makes phone-specific versions of this system, which might be a better fit for you. Since I didn't test a phone-receiver unit, I don't know if there is a headphone jack on the phone Rx's. There *is* a headphone jack in this version of the Rx for monitoring live.
Wireless mics are almost always omnidirectional, so they’re going to pick up sounds from all directions. I think you would have this issue with any model/brand of wireless mic in a crowd.
Hello, I just used my latest boya mic purchase the BY-M1V and noticed there is a delay in capturing audio in the beginning. So my first few seconds are always cut off or uncaptured by the mic. Is this normal?? I have the type C model
Hi! Unfortunately, I didn't test a phone-based version of these mics, so I don't have any direct experience with what you're describing. I do know that on many wireless systems where the receiver is plugged into (and powered by) a phone, they will shut off after awhile if the phone isn't active. They lose connection with the transmitter until the unit is powered up again. That might be accounting for the delay in getting audio. Does it happen even if your phone is unlocked and active? In any event, I would suggest contacting Boya and see what they say. Sorry I couldn't be of more help!
Nice review. I have a question. If I set the two transmitters to mono and record, can I separate the left and right channels and record them in stereo? I'd like to record the sound from the left and right speakers of the home audio. Thanks!
Yes, that should work. The transmitters are both mono already, but when you set the receiver to “stereo”, on Tx is recorded left and the other to the right channel. I will say though there are better ways to record audio than by putting mics in front of speakers!
@@MatthewHaines Oh, my question was wrong, but you answered it correctly. Now I understand. If I set it to split mode, I can separate the left and right channels and record it. Very thanks to you! Subscribed to your channel.😊

Wireless mics are almost always omnidirectional, so they’re going to pick up sounds from all directions. I think you would have this issue with any model/brand of wireless mic in a crowd.
@@MatthewHaines I really tried much but it picks the voice of crowd and even holding close to mouth does not pick my voice clearly except crowd
One man use this is it better sound quality Iam new blogger using it my videos
If I understand you correctly, you're saying you're currently using this system? That's great! It's a simple system but sounds really good.
Is this the raw audio?
No EQ added. Some limiting added just to even out some of the levels (which I always do).
@@MatthewHaines Cool thanks, new subs here. Is the mic still working?
@@nissangamba heh. Yes they still work. However, one of the transmitter clips broke off. I can still use that Tx but can’t clip it to my shirt. YMMV!
@Finn 💯!!!💙
He's a great kid!
@@MatthewHaines Yes I can see that and he is so cute and funny, I have two boys and he reminds me of them! Take good care of him!
Nice
Thanks!
i have problem with my mic tx to camera canon i get noise
Can you describe the noise? Is it continuous or intermittent? Also, make sure you're using the right cable for camera connection, not phone connection.
