31,954! This is great, some GM vehicles require the front bumper to be removed to change the bulb.

Ouch! Well if removing the bumper is easy then it wouldn't be so bad.

I found your video over a year ago when the driver's side light went out. It was so informative and easy that I found it again today when the passenger side went out. Thank you for making it so easy that even a petite 60+ yo could do it!!

Question? I changed the bulb and it was fine then it went out. I checked and the pig tails in the cover melted and the bulb melted at the contact point what caused that?

Thank you so much for this video. I have never replaced a bulb in a car before and I was a bit nervous but determined to do some of my own basic car maintenance this time around. You made it look as easy as it is. As my luck would have it, a brake light just went out, but now I’ve got a bit of confidence that I can do that one by myself as well. Again huge thanks.

Great video, very clear and concise. For anyone having trouble opening the light covers, try turning clockwise after going past the 1/8 counterclockwise mark, it usually gets it to pop out. Also, a strong piece of rope or paracord is really useful for getting additional leverage on the rotating plate, hook it around the main tab and manipulate the direction with rope.

    Hi Mike,
Thanks for making this video. While I've changed out headlight bulbs on older models of vehicles, I was at a complete loss when I popped the hood of my wife's new 2013 Toyota Rav4 & noticed the housing around the headlights. You helped make an apparently complicated matter simple. What's more, your extra advice on changing out the passenger side bulb saved me from yet more needless frustration, since that's the bulb that I needed to change out. Once again, thank you for all of your advice, I sincerely appreciate it.

I did not feel a pop or release for the cap, but I went back and froze the video on the release and tried to line mine up with that and found the "sweet spot" and it popped right open. I think the release window is very small and easy to crank past, especially when your cap is very hard to turn like mine was. Thanks for the video, saved me a bunch of money!

There are 4 little groves where you will be able to pull it out and I think it's possible to twist past those grooves because that's what I did. When you're turning it, you can feel it when it loosens up or releases slightly. When it does loosen up, that's where you can pull it out. Thank you for this video!

Thank you. My Rav4 is a 2015 LE AWD. I had 2 different guys at 2 different auto parts stores not be able to to this after I failed on my first attempt. The key is as another comment said, line up the arrow of the cover with the little circle to get the cap off, then if you can't get the light bulb out, take a screwdriver and loosen the two screws holding down that round piece that the light bulb rotates out of. When it's loose, the light bulb will rotate and pop out easily. (Be sure to put it the way it was, of course.)

Thank you! Mine was on the left (funny, none of these videos show the passenger side where you have to get your hands behind the washer reservoir) One extra note I would add is that casing turns tight. You really have to give it a hard turn and it does not give much. Popping it out is also hard as there is not much room. I was able to do it without taking off the reservoir tube. Thanks again!

IMPROVEMENT: Great video! I could not have done this without your information. I did find that the washer filler is flexible, held in place with a snap fastener. I used a small coin to pop up the center, and remove the fastener. This gave me excellent access to the passenger side bulb.

Great video, Mike. It's 2022 and my lightbulb housing cap that must be turned has no tactile/audible click. I was spinning and getting frustrated. Heard your recommended 1/8th twice and was able to force it off without breaking anything. Popped new bulb in before my better half had a long road trip this morning and was able to fix it under ten minutes. Kept a spare bulb in the glovebox in case we have a roadside need for a new headlight. Liked, commented and sub'd. Great work, king. This is the best explanation on youtube for this should-be simple task.

Wow- thanks for tutorial & all of the explanation. Really made it pretty painless. As it was, a pair of bulbs was $54.00, and they both went out within a couple of days of each other (Tuesday &Thursday night) & couldn't get it into a shop until the following week. Hard to use high beams on rural roads- too much oncoming traffic. Hate paying to have something so simple installed. Agree with Tae Yoo- hardest jar lid ever-lol, but slow, steady pressure wins the race. Also, I was able to dislodge the reservoir neck from the bracket to give me a bit more room to work. (2014 RAV) Thanks for keeping it to the point & short & sweet. For a REAL challenge, try changing the headlights on a 2002 beetle.

~ my 2013 put-up a struggle to get off. It did not want to turn as smooth as the video shows. I had to use tools to get more leverage before it finally moved in the proper direction. I guess a combination of dirt grinding within the sealing gasket and not being opened in a long time made it challenging but, in the end, it all worked out.. thanks for the video, sir!

My 2016 Rav4 XLE Hybrid does not have that large circular cover, but the rest of the process was similar. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you so much. The one thing you forget is the celebratory dance afterward! Maybe that’s just me after changing my first headlight!! Your video was easy to follow. What shall I fix next??

I think the model I have doesn’t have the plastic cover, but this was still super helpful for someone who’s never worked on a car before

Thank you so much for your video. It took me about 5 minutes to change both low beam bulbs. I did remove the connector for the windshield washer reservoir which made working on that side so much easier.

I am not a natural fix-it person, and this video gave me the confidence to do this job. Unfortunately, my light was the more difficult one, and I could not get that plastic cover to budge! I could do it with my hands on the driver's side -- either it was just easier or it's because the access is easier. In the end, I used a flat screwdriver. I wrapped a bit of cloth on the end of the screwdriver and put in on the cover. Then I tapped the screwdriver with a hammer. After a few taps (that got harder each time!) I got the cover to move. Then the rest of the job was as easy as you showed!

Awesome! I'm glad you could free it up with the screwdriver.

Thanks Mike!!!! I was trying to figure out how far that cover had to rotate as mine wasnt popping off no matter where I put it. But once in that sweet spot as you show it comes off easy. Easy job on the drivers side anyway.

I had so much difficulty getting the plastic cover out. Sprayed some WD-40 and waited a couple of minutes before trying again. I finally was able to push it 1/8 inch and pop the cover out.

Thanks! The owners manual doesn’t help much. Seeing you do it sure helped. Also, being that it’s 25 deg out and no garage maked it more difficult. It took some doing getting it to turn also. Thanks again.

Thanks for the vid. Driver side one rotate further then it needed (past where you would pull to undo it). For left side I just took the washer tube off the body by removing the platic tap. Great vid.
