  • Scott Galloway and Jessica Tarlov preview the much-anticipated VP debate between J.D. Vance and Tim Walz. They also break down Kamala Harris's recent trip to the U.S.-Mexico border and the federal indictment of NYC Mayor Eric Adams over bribery allegations. Then, former Maryland Governor Larry Hogan joins the show for a candid conversation on the Republican Party's direction, his bipartisan legacy, and how moderates can shape the future of governance.
    Follow Jessica Tarlov, @JessicaTarlov.
    Follow Prof G, @profgalloway.
27:02 Introduction to former Maryland Governor Larry Hogan
27:25 How do you see the future of the Republican Party?
29:48 Why do you think there are fewer moderates in politics today, and what is causing the shift away from working together?
32:48 What issues do you find resonate most with your voters?
35:35 How do you reassure moderates worried about the Supreme Court going further right?
39:07 Would you have appointed the past Supreme Court justices?
40:00 How will you govern if you win the seat?
41:08 Will you vote for Harris?
41:39 Any observations or insights about the upcoming debate?

As a Virginia resident, I will say that a lot of the Covid guidance between MD/VA/DC came from Hogan. Really think he's a solid Governor. Where he completely lost me and would 100% prevent me from voting for him if I lived in MD was how much he praised Sinema & Manchin. I would not call them bipartisan. They are completely full of crap and just used the position as a cash grab. Not saying others on both sides don't do the same. But these two are not heroes and name dropping them as examples of what you want to run as is NOT a ringing endorsement.

I don't think some people seem to grasp that this was released early Tuesday morning on Spotify or wherever you listen. The TH-cam videos are always posted later. I have a feeling that over 99% of all their viewership happens over different podcast apps. Most people including myself don't have time to sit and watch videos. I just read the comment sections during work breaks.

If hogan had the balls not to sit on the fence, said yes I’m voting for Harris because not making a choice is the refuge of a coward and the antithesis of leadership, I might vote for him, but absent that, too often he’ll side with republicans who cannot be trusted. Blue is just safer for this former Republican turned independent (15 years ago)

Boy did Scott nail my concerns with the current supreme court and how Larry will be pressured to move the court even further out of balance. But even without pressure, the Senate has become a winner take all. When the leader of the Senate can suspect judicial nominations for the better part of a year until "their person" gets in power to nominate who they want, that is too much power in one person.
If the Senate could have better rules/guardrails that would compel timely hearings on judicial nominations, regardless of who is in power, the advice and consent clause would have proper meaning. I think the President should get 30-days to nominate a justice for the Supreme Court and the senate should be given 60-days (90 tops) after the nomination to have hearings and an up or down vote. We elect a President for 4-years. That person gets to nominate people for their entire term. If you want to suspend nominations due to elections...fine...the last quarter of a Presidential election (October-December). That's it. I think for a down-vote to an otherwise qualified candidate should come with legal justification for the down vote. Judges have judicial track records. It should be easy enough to come up with valid reasons for a down vote, if a good reason exists.

This debate was bland, Walz is a nice guy but he allowed Vance to lie too much without truly calling him out. Harris did surprisingly better with her debate because she knew when it was time to be aggressive. Also the moderators should not be scared about fact checking, making sure the clients are being truthful is a part of moderating.

    • @BrettM-lw2zt

Politics is so polarized that politicians can't work across the aisle because the electorate won't let them. If any politician is seen working with "the other side" then they lose their seat. We need to campaign to the voters of each party to change the mindset or we're going to be in gridlock forever. Nothing is getting done in Congress. I seriously believe we need to bring back, what's it called, the pork? We need to let politicians logroll and have those bridges-to-nowhere so they have something to negotiate.

Harris Walz hiding from the press does not mean there is room to grow with independents. That's a twisted view really and this hiding from the media to avoid hard questions from real journalists has already had an impact on voters. We aren't more open to them... we are disappointed.
