    Quick note about the headlight removal tools: they're highly prone to breaking or stripping (most typically the just split) if you have corroded or dirty headlight latching mechanism. I'd highly advise using a socket instead of the tool to just avoid the potential headache.

    Definitely need to move the condensers to the side to clean behind them. Found a lot of leaves and other organic material in there. The condenser hoses have some flex to them to allow them to move toward the center of the car. Great video!

    Installed the Rennline grills for my 2016 Boxster GTS a couple of weeks ago. Rennline has a good video on their site. More Torq screws and electrical connections on the 2016. I removed some of the wheel well liner to more easily reach the electrical connections that had to be disconnected on both sides of the fender (the 986 in this video doesn't have those connections). The grills need to be formed to perfectly fit the openings, but otherwise it was pretty straightforward. Went back together more easily than I thought it would. Nice video Vu. Keep up the good work.

    Bought the car 2 days ago(986 2.7) and this was my first diy. Very helpful and found out thru the replies the I could move the condensers! Thanks everyone! 😊

    I remember putting in a cable release hidden behind the tow hook so I could access the trunk in the event of a battery failure lockout on my 1999 - 986

      1999 986 has a cable actuated frunk release. A battery failure doesn’t affect the opening of the frunk.

    Great job Vu. Another easy but important DIY job. It's easy to fab metal mesh gutter guard material much line the Renline parts behind he grills - couple dollars. Don't use too fine of screen to reduce air flow but will block most leaves.

    Timely, as I just did this two days ago on my 996.2. As in your video a ton of debris fell out. Easy clean up, thankfully!

    Very helpful although I don't think you need to take the headlights off (I didn't). I had the same amount of leaves too. Also, just two screws and the condenser moves forward 3-4 inches exposing even more leaves.

    And by removing your front bumper and cleaning the radiators, now is your chance to extend or reroute the emergency pull cable for the frunk to open in case you have a dead battery.

    Awesome video, keep them coming! I would imagine the process is pretty similar on the 996 since they shared so many (all?) front end components? I'm going to give this a try this week or next and see how many leaves I have. Thanks!

    Looks like he has a leak in the condenser. This is evident by the oil stain on the upper right hand and the localized build up of dirt and dust.

    Is it ok to power wash the radiator and condensor?

    • @PorscheClubofAmerica
      @PorscheClubofAmerica  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The radiator fins might get damaged if the pressure washer is too strong. Personally, I'd suggest gently cleaning out with a bristle brush and compressed air.

    Why not just use a vacuum cleaner with crevice tool to periodically clean away debris obstructing the radiators instead of removing the bumper cover?

    • @PorscheClubofAmerica
      @PorscheClubofAmerica  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That'll help, but crevice tool won't get into the deep corners. Removing bumper cover is pretty easy and ensures you are able to clean it out thoroughly.
