- In this extended interview with "CBS Sunday Morning" correspondent Lee Cowan, legendary CBS News veteran Dan Rather, now 92, talks about his early life and years in broadcasting, including his experiences with Edward R. Murrow and Walter Cronkite; his proudest moments as a correspondent; the effects that the assassination of President John F. Kennedy and the Vietnam War had on his reporting; the role of social media in journalism today; and why covering some stories means that journalists must accept "danger is your business."

One of the very last legendary reporter
*One of the very last legendary reporters.
I grew up listening to you! The days of broadcast news and of great journalists such as Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward are solely missing. Thank You, Mr. Rather for your contribution to American journalism. 🇺🇲
Thank you for your service Mr.Rather.
Why would I watch you on CBS for decades, while in prison, if I didn't trust you! You are one of the best anchormen in history. Bless you Mr. Rather.
A legend. His intelligence, historical perspective and insights given in this interview have made me better understand the precarious predicament that now faces our nation. Thank you. Dan Rather. And a good job, Lee Cowan.
Thank you Mr.Rather!
One of the very very few people who was in Dallas on 11/22/63 and in NYC on 9/11
The CBS of old was the best news network. My wife worked on the evening news broadcast for several years during Rather’s tenure and they still stay in occasional contact. Rather wasn’t perfect but he was a newsman through and through. The Mapes story was never officially denied by the White House, btw.
One of the greatest journalists ever. Still is. Continue on Dan Rather. And, thank you.
'One of the best interviewers there ARE'? I'm sure he was nervous sitting in front of and conducting an interview with this legend.
Love ❤️ Dan Rather, He is an amazing person and he is so fortunate to have interviewed some wonderful people in this world 🌎
This is the CBS Evening News with Dan Rather reporting from CBS News headquarters in New York.
Ahhhh, music to my ears...
Master class. On both sides of the camera.❤️👏👏👏
Miss you Dan Rathers.
That was amazing!
Thank you
I miss seeing him giving us the latest news.
He was one of the first, I started noticing, as a toddler in the 60's on a 12"(or so) black and white TV.
I remember it was when he was in Vietnam.
I had only heard that as a word, in adult conversations, up to that point.
I would, from then on, look for him on television.
Thank you Mr. Rather, you're as family, to me, I'm sure others have my same feelings of appreciation for you and your work.
In Central East Texas (temporarily).
Miss him… what a humble, talented man!! 💙💙💙
Touched me deeply. I'm one of his 300,000 faithful. Read every substack: entitled STEADY.
Dan is one of the greatest journalists, and I started to watch the CBS Evening News after I had arrived at the US about 36 years ago.
God Bless you Mr. Rather........You have always been a Man of Faith and Truth. We LOVE you. Continue to be well and be strong.
HUG RESPECT AND ADMIRATION. Wishing you nany, many more years of life and good health. ❤️
Amazing longevity !
thank you dan growing up in the 80s you were the best!
He was reporting from the battlefields of Vietnam when I was a Kid. We sat around the TV during dinner time, or after. A very sad time in our history. Dan Rather gets all my respect!
Thank you Dan Rather ! ! ! 🎉❤
Great😊
The GOAT Dan Rather
Ain't seen the OG in a minute
It's the crazy old man show.
I so wish he could have been the CBS White House Correspondent during Trump's term to have held his feet to the fire..and the truth...like he did Nixon.
43:07 Corporatization, Politization, and Hollywoodization of Broadcast News
23:34 - 28:03
Is he the one that lied?
what's the frequency, kenneth?🤔
46:26-51:45 Liberal Media

"Self described autocrat who says on my first day in office I'll be a dictator" ...
I remember Dan have a nervous breakdown on live TV and start whinin an crying over a news report he couldn't handle on 2 occasions. I think alota news reporters are way better than him ,he took Charles keralts place when Charles retired.
Rather have Dan ❤
Dans a loon lol
Roger Mudd lost battle with Rather. He gave an interesting interview late in his life when he discussed the jockeying that went on and the rise of the star system.
LOST MY RESPECT FOR DAN WHEN HE CHOSE TO BECOME A POLITICAL OPERATIVE FOR THE DEMOCRATS. HE WAS NOT ALWAYS TRUTHFUL AND HE OFTEN MADE HIMSELF THE STORY. Ruined his career! 🤔
He is a complete shell of himself. It’s awful. Please take this video down he is talking after several strokes and paralysis
The man is 92 years old. Show some respect please. This man is still sharp and engaging. He's a living legend
@@JeremiahSpeaks he is completely off his game. Very sad
@@MalEvansUSAhe is not. Watch any of his the big interview videos and they’re all great
@@MalEvansUSA I don't see how. If he did have strokes and suffered some paralysis, then that explains it. Also he is 92. He is a icon.
❤@@MalEvansUSALOOK at Biden! He is sharper than Biden!!!
