Personally, I like the style of this channel a lot. Not as high production as MKBHD but it makes it kinda feel like he is talking more directly to you and feels less scripted. Not saying I dislike the other channels style though, both are great.
He could really do with a laravel mic. I get the idea of wanting to make a Channel using a phone… but the audio levels are alllll over the place. Playing through my atmos sound system is wacky
While it is nice to have buttons, there is a reason Tesla doesn't use them if they can: buttons need wires and wiring is one of the largest weight factors in any vehicle, let alone an EV. This is why many classic and old cars made of steel and iron still weigh less than many modern vehicles made out of aluminum and plastic.
@@iMeatbag in a compact or economy car weighing in the sub 3000lbs range sure but for your average person I’d argue the benefits of having a physical switch you can feel and hit without looking is more beneficial. Especially given the fact with modern techniques and technology you don’t even need that much cabling. You can literally have all the buttons on a single pcb with just one wire thinner than a phone charging cable plugging directly into the massive touchscreen or down to the car’s brain. Modern physical switches aren’t like old fashioned controls that link directly to the unit they’re controlling but more like mechanical keyboards with a fancy exterior which can easily be made to last an extremely long time and a ridiculously long time if you use Hall effect switches which basically use electromagnets instead of physical contact. On another note I especially love the button for dynamically controlling regenerative braking and hope it becomes a standard trend.
@@iMeatbag you can multiplex and serialize buttons lol, a blackberry phone weighs nothing while having all the buttons on the keyboard, weight argument doesnt make any sense in any truck let alone a 9000+ lbs car
As an European, the crab walk seems very nice for the inner city parallel parking. Especially for the small and tight spaces of the one-way streets. You'd be able to squeeze this monstrosity really nicely after you bulldoze everything behind you.
I also don’t think the crab walk can move at much of an angle. Like a few degrees. The car can’t move completely sideways. It’s actually a pretty useless feature
Funny thing is a lot of American roads aren’t designed for really big vehicles so to speak. In my town our downtown area has massive roads around the courthouse. This is because back in the 1800’s when it came together they wanted to be able to turn around a horse and carriage on the square’s roads. They just kept it when it was paved.
@@tylerdunlap6787that’s true in the northeast for the most part but when the freeways started bulldozing everything over especially in the sunbelt and especially in Texas you’ll see gigantic roads and stroads that have no business being as large as they are in the middle of cities.
I wish more manufacturers would give us buttons with tactile feel for climate control, radio, etc. Much easier to use when you need to keep your eyes on the road.
Physical buttons are too reliable and can’t be monetized. Locking you into software controls means expensive “repairs” for software issues which can be created on a whim.
Dang, that sucks! I don't see a lot of Germans probably wanting it anyway. It's GMC.

And would pay bigger taxes on everything, pay more expensive tolls on highways and parking lots because it would literally be considered a small semi truck, not a "car" anymore. Not to mention this hummer would be banned from driving on some roads and bridges. 4 tons is A LOT, and many smaller roads and bridges cannot take that weight, at least not safely. At this point, being electric, I'm asking myself how much of that 200kWh battery is being used/wasted just to "carry itself" around. At which point it stops being worth it to add more battery? Im sure this truck with 50kWh less battery would barely lose that much range because it would be carrying A LOT less weight anyway
@@tricct5890 Agreed. 7.5 tons was strict enough. In my family we have a Mercedes Unimog for the farm and we have to watch out which attachments we put on it, so it does not exceed the weight limit. For the younger drivers it's 3.5t. And for all who got their drivers licence before 1971, it's 7.5 tons. Which is obviously insane. Germany really did not let that 70's crisis go to waste and imposed a lot of laws restricting personal freedoms severely. E.g.: In 73, they also imposed a ban on driving a car on sundays, which fortunately was lifted shortly after. Unfortunately all other restricting laws of that time are still in place and were not lifted. No matter who was in power.
I just want to point out that you need a C-class Driving Licence for vehicles with Gross vehicle weight rating of over 3,5 t. GVWR is the maximum acceptable weight of fully loaded vehicle. Here just the vehicle alone weights 4,1 t, so GVWR is probably way over 6 tonnes! You needed C-class Licence even for Hummer H1, which weighted about 3,3 tonnes.
@@tricct5890 Actually, you don't need a full C-Class. For vehicles with GVWR between 3,5, and 7,5 tonnes C1 is enough but it's very rare for someone to get this one. Usually you already go with a full C-class.
I’d love to see you do a auto-infotainment video series. Like a run down of every manufacturer’s attempt to integrate technology into their vehicles (both from a phone integration, and then overall technology usage for climate control, camera, security, display etc) - show how they compare to each other. Could break it up into each price segment, vehicle class, etc. A whole series I think would be fascinating to plan and watch. These are great btw - killing it.
That would be a very short video series considering how slow and outdated a lot of car manufacturers infotainment systems feel like they are from 2008.
I'll be honest, I wouldn't want to rely on the Texas power grid to keep me on the road. That thing goes down whenever it gets hot or cold or windy or when Abbot wants to knock out the lights in a school to prevent the children from reading.
@@lexslate2476 Different cities have different priorities. I live in a city where the processing plants would lobby the shit out of Abbott if he let power go out for too long. It does need upgrading either way.

The crab-walk mode is there to enable parallel parking that E-Brodozer without crushing nearby smaller cars. Smaller cars like an F150 Lightning. Or a semi tractor. Not my jam. The buttons though! Will the rest of the automotive industry please take note of that setup! That part is awesome.
@@danmac6185 Actually, I learned to drive in an old Chevy dually and drove that for many years and had a Dodge 2500 (Quad, long bed) for years. Drove box vans and full sized work trucks with service beds for work too. Now I prefer my little truck. Hoping someday GM makes an electric Canyon/Colorado like thing that could tow more than 100 miles. A tall order indeed! And if it weren't for my small RV I'd likely ditch the truck altogether. We had a Bolt for awhile and although it was nothing fancy it was perfect for getting around and short road trips. Kinda reminiscent of old 1980's JDM hot hatches, just electric. @@T1Oracle Honestly, when you state the weight first and then you get to the fact that it IS speed limited. I tend to find myself nodding in agree to that call.
The real hummer (HMMWV) is a spartan, highly mobile special purpose vehicle. Dressing up commercial vehicles like this and labeling them "Hummers" is simply playing to all the wannabes out there who have no real clue.
@@CitEnthusiastYou're confusing 'Hummer' the brand for 'Humvee,' the questionable pronunciation of the military HMMWV. You can drive a Humvee if you want and can get it plated in your state. I'll take the working a/c and the 1000hp lol
As someone who lives full time in an RV and have been waiting for EV options, I can tell you crab walk would be AMAZING when parking an RV. Normally to make left and right adjustments you have to move both the truck and trailer forward and backwards. Crab mode seems like it would let you change the angle of the trailer without the extra back and forth motion.
in Germany you need to have a truck license for this. Everything over 3,5 tons is not considered a car. But if it barely fits in a parking spot in the US it won't in one in europe anyways. That thing is crazy. But seems like the most american EV out there :D
On the other hand though, it could be very beneficial for tax reasons (at least in Austria) if you have a truck license anyway (which we get in the military for free if one's lucky enough to become a driver in basic national military service). I donˋt know if I remember this correctly but wasn't this also a thing with previous Hummers?
That infotainment system with its UI is something I hope all car manufacturers adopt for their sedans because that's just brilliant design. All the little things that would be annoying and dangerous to access while driving (fan speed) all have physical buttons/knobs/switches to control. Good stuff!
'Aspect Ratio of a truck' that was The fun take from this video for me. Also, as you've mentioned many times that this vehicle is relatively large, a couple shots where it was parked to a normal car would've been a great addition. Just my two cents. Cheers guys.
It’s gaudy, heavy and excessive but it perfectly captures the H1 vibes that the H2 and H3 lost. It looks durable, it looks heavy (it damn sure is), it looks like it’ll get you through a brick wall.
@souravpaul3655 I like evs and all. But some vehicles just seem like an odd choice to go that route. In my opinion, if you like it. Good on you. It looks super fucking cool, but when I found out it was a hummer I thought "what the hell? Army and all that, you don't think EV on the battle field.". Just seemed like a wild route to take for the hummer in particular.
@@matthewdh123it makes a lot of sense if you think about it: the main disadvantages of EVs are the range and the price. Hummers are infamously fuel inefficient and expensive, so a hummer driver isn’t going to worry so much about range, and if you have money for a huge inefficient car you aren’t going to be scared off by ev prices. Also, why does a 4.5 ton tank of a truck seem like it wouldn’t fit on a battlefield? If anything, not carrying a huge tank of gasoline on your vehicle seems like a benefit in a combat scenario, not that this was ever meant for military use to begin with
@@ahmedmashhour1912 Making good quality review videos takes a lot of product knowledge and research, it's clear Marques was not well prepared or knowledgable about many of the vehicles functions or history. GM has the best regen system in the industry, not crappy like Tesla where it is only on or off.
@@dmitchellhomes you can definitely adjust the regen in a tesla. very light regen for new users to heavy regen for more experienced drivers so that you hardly ever have to touch the brakes.
The Hummer EV has a moon theme, specifically an Apollo mission theme. That is why the Hummer is towing a rocket in the tow/hall mode. Its also not just any rocket, it’s the Apollo mission rocket. The heritage is that GM and Boeing collaborated to build the lunar roving vehicles for the Apollo missions. I like the theme and think it’s a cool quirk and one of many subtle touches on the Hummer EV that are references to the Apollo missions.
@@dzerres Lunar Roving Vehicles were crafted by GM and Boeing in the 1960s! Those vehicles are still on the moon. NASA has a long history working with GM, you fool 🤣🤣😂

Same, I actually stopped watching some of the other videos because they were feeling overproduced. Probably a weird reason... this is pulling me back in
It actually significantly cuts down effort and time to make and record the videos. I’d rather 3-4 of these videos for the same amount of time and effort it takes to make just 1 of those higher quality videos.
This is actually an amazing idea. Just an iphone. Quick and dirty. It really shows Marques's skill and charasma. He makes it look natrual, fun and effortless. If I tried talking into a camera for 10 min straight I would be stuttering like I don't even know how to speak. Amazing work! Love it! (also the analogy is pretty funny, the ROG of trucks...lol)

I really like your reviews are focusing on the practical experiences of owning a car for everyday drivers. Most car reviews focus on either a basic overviews of specs/design or focus on an in-depth UX review suitiable for racetrack-style driving enthusiasts. I enjoy those reviews but I found that knowing the everyday user experience of owning a particular model is much more useful when buying a new car. I know I'm using using it to go from point A to point B most of the time so it's nice to know the minor nuisances (or improvements) that will impact my sanity everyday! Your new channel is off to great start!
Just wait till EVs are in the hand of every self loathing middle class parent who can't seem to move beyond highschool. You know, the ones that treat busy stretches of road with multiple lights and intersections like their own personal drag strips.
1000hp readily available in EVs for the general idiot on the road is dangerous, the standards are already low for the cars we have now but chassis like the Hummer and the Tesla can easily cause massive damage, I've already seen plenty of videos of the plaid going 80 in a neighborhood, that fast and the Hummer could go through a house
I like the new format, I like what you're doing, and will continue to watch your videos. You provide a nice review of the vehicles. On this vehicle, the UI you are impressed with has a utilitarian design. Lots of folks with trucks, also keep gloves in the truck. Having the large buttons makes it easy to work with while wearing gloves. Also, I believe the reason the seat vibrates instead of the steering wheel is an improved safety feature. As an example, if a driver were falling asleep at the wheel, on a long trip, and his/her hand falls free of the steering wheel, vibrating the wheel provides no functionality. The seat, however may actually get their attention. I would also say that if bad drivers are drifting lanes, its likely because they are not holding the wheel at all. I like the seat vibrating, it makes more sense.
Crab walk is useful when you car falls (or is starting to fall) into a ditch or something. Because it is taking the entire car, sideways, out of it, rather than pushing the front and letting the rear slide. Gives you more control. To be honest, to understand the Electric Hummer, the person needs to understand the original Hummer. Some cars are what they are. It's the same as if you have kids and wonder "who would buy a miata?".
I used to work for Chevy (and by extension, GMC) and can confirm that the seat buzzing for collision warning has been in all their trucks for a few years. Personally, I prefer it, as they have the left and right ass bolsters of the seat zoned to vibrate if something is on the left or right side of the car. Gives a lot easier indication of where something is for any split-second decisions you need to make while otherwise distracted!
It’s much better than just buzzing the steering wheel. The “safety alert seat” is yet another brilliant design that he couldn’t bring himself to give GM credit for. He’s such a biased hater.
"These graphics do look a bit video-game-like, and there’s one very good reason for that. The driver interface and infotainment screen in the GMC Hummer EV will run off of the Unreal Engine - a video game graphics engine that serves as the foundation for some of the most popular titles in the gaming world today. In addition to tapping the Unreal Engine, GM also hired an innovation consultancy and design firm called Perception to design the vehicle’s interface graphics. Perception, which has helped conceptualize futuristic settings and sequences for Marvel films, designed and animated the user experience and user interface for the GMC Hummer EV infotainment system and instrument cluster, giving it the high-end and graphically intensive appearance we see here."
@Mike S aren’t the majority of expensive vehicles using new technology? It’s kind of the point; if you’re spending that much money, you want the latest tech. And the latest tech is technically untested on a mass level. Edit: expensive vehicles are usually using latest tech OR highest quality materials. This isn’t a luxury vehicle so it’s definitely about the tech
My Hummer now has 16,806 miles on it. We put 9k miles on it in the first 30 days traveling across the country. I've also got a friend with a Rivian, he found out the hard way how insanely costly it is to repair them compared to GM and Ford's offerings. I'm still waiting on my Lightning Platinum too. Though I think by the time we actually get it it will just be going for sale. I've never driven anything in the truck market that feels like this Hummer. It is more responsive than our Raptor, and far more capable off road in situations that would matter. My center console toggles are used for fun stuff, like R2D2 "horns" and a siren for WTF mode on private roads where it's legal. I'm only 5'7", so I don't have any clearance issues while inside the truck. Honestly, the best part about my Hummer to me, is the fact that even in -30F temperatures, the battery compartment and it's temperature controlled environment is keeping me above 300 mile ranges. We learned from experience that at -30F, the Rivian (with heat) drops to about 190 miles.
That’s impressive. We need more owners like yourself to comment! I’m not sure if you’re aware but General Motors receive LOTS of hate from both anti-EV folks _and_ the pro-EV folks who are customers of other EV brands. There’s many naysayers to go around so the real world reviews from real owners like yourself are rare jewels 💎 aside from all the paid and bias reviewers, fanboys and social media trolls. Even Marquess comes across as biased in this “review”. 🤷🏽♂️

Or i’m pretty sure you can also use just the front 2 wheels to turn in with a much better turning radius and visibility/comfortably. Either way the crab walk seems mad useful

The vibration through the seat is probably a safety feature knowing people are taking their hands off the wheel much to often to go on their phones. Red light, drive through... going 120km on the highway lol. Literally both hands! So I appreciate it.
As someone who drives a truck for a living I can tell you that a truck has the same kind of "extra" brake thing, so for a trucker that is an amazing feature. Saves a lot on brake pads, especially when hauling something heavy down a steep and long hill. As for the crap steering, that would be amazing when having to maneuver in tight spaces. You don't see the "need" for it because you don't have experience with driving huge trucks.

The vibrating seat cushion is a feature from the Tahoe/Suburban/Yukon/Escalade. In some ways I prefer it over the vibrating steering wheel or beeping of parking sensors. And in those GM vehicles I mentioned, it vibrates a section of the cushion based on how close a side of the vehicle is getting to something at low speeds.
You had reservations about the Hummer through the whole video and then figured it out at the end. It’s very cool and very high tech that dash is well designed. Kudos to GM they’re really knocking it out of the park!

My Chevy Bolt has the same regen lever on the left side of the steering wheel. I think it’s a GM feature they’re sticking with. It’s so incredibly useful once you get used to it.
The Volt had the same regen lever. Regular regen was a little weak IMO. By the end of the lease, dragging an ICE around around got old. Great technology for the 80s.

Nice tour! What a huge beast of a machine. The brake regeneration paddles are great in traffic but leave a slightly sea sick feeling if you use the heavy setting.
This is such an interesting car, because even though its so big and has a small potential pool of buyers, you can tell that a lot of thought went into it. Some of the features are something every single other (electric) car should have aswell, especially the dash with PHYSICAL buttons/switches! Thats seriously such a smart way of solving a big part of menu navigation and searching for the right settings, which other EVs suffer from. EDIT: I dont like big cars, I rather hate them. What the Hummer does well however is the *details*, like the mentioned dashboard or storage behind the back seats. Those are all things that id like to see on small EVs aswell.
I completely agree, the design overall is very well thought out. And if we are being honest it pays true homage to previous Hummer models with the exception of the H3 which itself was not as ridicoulus as the H2 or H1 before it.
To me it shows a lack of thought. 9000lbs does not show any creativity in thought. It was a “let’s just make the battery really big.” Not a lot of innovation. The look is well done, but after that it is impractical.
@@niceguyrides It's just like any Super Duty truck or the Hummer series before it. It's not really meant to be practical, it's more of a specific use case car. And it's not even that much a concern as it being over 100k+ MSRP not even with dealer markups is probably gonna keep it out of most people hands. I'm betting most of these if you ever see them are gonna be garage kept and on pavement getting groceries, instead of their intended off-road use.
I would turn off the vibration seats, replace the weels and tyres with 20" all terrains and enjoy this fun truck without the roof! This thing is AWESOME!
Marques, you should've tested it offroad, of course, dude, c'mon! You have to retest it. Load it with people and gear and go at least 200 miles to camp in the wilderness!
That added regen lever behind the steering wheel was originally on the Chevy Volt 2nd Generation and it's also on all the Bolts. That's where it came from. It looks like the exact same level that is on my Bolt EUV as does the mirror.
It's mind boggling seeing the weight of these large EVs, the general EU drivers license for cars is limited at 3500 kg (7700 lbs) of gross weight, that means that most people in europe aren't even allowed to drive a Rivian or this Hummer
Interesting. A standard US drivers license allows you to drive any vehicle up to 26,000 lbs (11,793 kg) gross weight and/or tow a trailer up to 10,000 lbs (4,536 kg), as long as you are transporting no more than 15 passengers.
@@stephenj4937 I assume this is standardised across the entire EU, but in the Czech Republic, it is as follows: standard license is class B: Vehicle under 3500 kg (7716 lbs) and no more than 9 occupants class C1: vehicle under 7500 kg (16534 lbs) and no more than 9 occupants Class C: vehicle not limited by weight and no more than 9 occupants class D1: vehicle under 8 meters (27 feet) and no more than 17 occupants Class D: vehicle "designed for transporting people" All classes above allow towing up to 750 kg (1653 lbs) trailer, but only if the total weight of the rig fits into weight limit, so for the typical B class if you have a 750 kg trailer your vehicle must fit under 2750kg. To tow more you must get appropriate + E license, e.g. B+E or D1+E. Fun fact, if you do your B class driving test in an automatic, your license only allows you drive auto, to drive manual you need to get retested.

Crab mode is for parking and trailer maneuvering. Someone might use it off road but it would have marginal and niche utility compared with coordinated steering mode.

This is probably the best center console yet that I’ve seen on an EV One of my biggest gripes with nearly all the EV’s on the market right now is for the center console al they do is slap a touch screen in the censor and that’s it. Everything has to be accessed through the touch screen and becomes the vain of your existence when you’re trying to drive and can’t tell by the feel of a button but are forced to take your eyes off the road
Love the new format! And I get the lean "phone only" production style, but sometimes the iphone can't deside where your voice is coming from and it moves from side to side which gets annoying when you watch with headphones. Monoing the audio or using bluetooth lavalier would do the trick, but I understand if it's to much because it wouldn't be phone only anymore. Anyway thanks for the additional content!
In the UK you need a special drivers licence to drive vehicles over 7750 LB's, so most people here wouldn't even legally be able to drive it. Add to that the fact that its too heavy for any light bridge anywhere - It's an impressive bit of engineering but honestly I don't think a soccer mom should be able to drive something this heavy and quick without having specialist training, its fatalities waiting to happen.
The one from volt is binary, so all or nothing, I’m not sure what this one is but I prefer the continuous band of regent power the accelerator pedal gives me.

That's a cool correlation between the original H1 and this new electric one (in terms of buyer habits/styles). Also love the handheld phone vibe to this channel as other people have mentioned.
Sometimes the reason one is drifting in the lane is because one does not have a good hold on the steering wheel, or any hold. It's more rare that they're not sitting in the seat. I think that vibration makes sense.
How long is the bed? I think what a lot of car reviewers don't mention is the length of the bed, and the lack of these vehicles with the 6' or 8' beds. My current daily driver is a pickup. I would not consider buying my next pickup if it does not have at least a 6' bed. 8' is preferred. 6' I can fit a mattress in it if I'm moving or helping someone else move. Or can fit wood I'm buying for a project mostly in the bed without a bunch of overhang out the back. With an 8', I can fit almost all wood I would buy completely in the bed of the pickup without anything hanging out.
You're not going to be able to go to Home Depot, and fill up the bed with 8' drywall panels and 8' 2x4 studs. This truck was designed to be a lifestyle vehicle, not a commercial work truck for contractors and tradesmen.
GM will come out with an electric Silverado or Sierra for the people like you who need the utility of your standard truck. This thing can’t tow anything substantial and it’s bed is tiny, more like a trunk you can take the top off. I said in a different comment that this vehicle is comparable to a super duty, but really its more of a Raptor and TRX competitor (a segment where GMs showings have been incredibly uninteresting)
One thing you might consider relative to the crab mode, going back to your parking comments, it would let you scoot side to side in a parking space to help your passengers, and given presence when a parking neighbor is present also them, a little better access in turn without getting misaligned with your space.
I absolutely loved this paired down style of review/talk about the vehicles. And don't even mind the dip in audio quality when using a phone. I find it works perfectly for what you've set out to do. One thing though, at some point in the video, could you actually mention what phone it is you're using to record...unless of course you plan to reveal that in a major video at some point. Love the content. Peace.
I like the smartphone idea, although I would think an external mic (there's a lot of them for the iPhone) would improve the video a lot since the windnoise and shifts in audio channel is quite distracting for headphone users
3 second 0-60 at 9000 pounds is absolutely insane this thing is a weapon of mass destruction

NGL, I super agree. You should do more of these videos.

I agree on the center dash buttons, these actually look like a nice fusion between digital and analog.
While it is nice to have buttons, there is a reason Tesla doesn't use them if they can: buttons need wires and wiring is one of the largest weight factors in any vehicle, let alone an EV. This is why many classic and old cars made of steel and iron still weigh less than many modern vehicles made out of aluminum and plastic.
agreed!
Yup the dash buttons are an attraction....I'd buy this truck and I don't like the other hummers
Bro I am pretty sure this thing won’t even fit some European streets😂😂
This thing wouldn’t fit in the majority of the streets in my city 😭

The screen plus multi menu buttons setup is probably the best UI possible for an ev.
they could always add some haptics i guess
Physical buttons are too reliable and can’t be monetized. Locking you into software controls means expensive “repairs” for software issues which can be created on a whim.
they will bring that back as an invention and charge you for it big time.
yeah man, button simply a lot better when driving. i hate touch screen in some of the car just to adjust AC.
Amazing. In Germany, you would not even be allowed to drive this with a car licence - everything above 3.5 t requires a (semi)truck licence 😀
The USA is just ridiculous in so many ways.
It's EU regulation, so it's same for every EU country
@@jauho7483 Didn't know that!
*In most countries in Europe you would need a CDL (licence for heavy trucks) to drive that thing since it's over 3.5 tons.*
True. This is such a scam. previously limit was 7.5 tons
@@surrealengineering7884 that’s what it should be ? 3.5 tons and you need a damn cdl? That’s actually crazy
The button set up under the UI is actually so nice, better feedback than touch based buttons/settings

in Germany you need to have a truck license for this. Everything over 3,5 tons is not considered a car. But if it barely fits in a parking spot in the US it won't in one in europe anyways. That thing is crazy. But seems like the most american EV out there :D
same in norway. suprised gmc make such heavy cars
By comparison, at under 5,000 kgs, this can be driven on the basic (non-professional) driver's license in the Philippines.
It's not just a German thing, but an EU thing, since the driver licenses are the same in all the EU
Sadly yes it is the most american ev we have made :/
That infotainment system with its UI is something I hope all car manufacturers adopt for their sedans because that's just brilliant design.
All the little things that would be annoying and dangerous to access while driving (fan speed) all have physical buttons/knobs/switches to control. Good stuff!
I hope automakers stop investing in infotainment period and just focus on making sure CarPlay and Android Auto work flawlessly.

The Hummer EV has a moon theme, specifically an Apollo mission theme. That is why the Hummer is towing a rocket in the tow/hall mode. Its also not just any rocket, it’s the Apollo mission rocket.
What about employment?
I think nobody who has the money to buy this truck will wear gloves tho

@@Toymonkeyjr you don't see much of a difference from 7,000~ to 9,000~??? Who the fuck taught you maths? ~29% more weight... and for direct comparison, the new EV hummer weighs almost twice as much as the old hummers.
If I had to put money on it I would say anyone who can afford this will never actually take it off road.

9,000 pounds is insane. I wonder what's the 60mph-0mph distance. The amount of inertia this behemoth probably has is crazy.
I wonder if the navigation tracks road limits and will route the Hummer around roads that it isn’t allowed to drive on.
This car is ridiculous, there are too roads where you cant drive here, youd literally be stuck behind a river because some bridges in my area have 3,6 limit, I actually wouldnt be able to get to school on this
Per Car and Driver 70-0 mph is 211 feet
I wonder the amount of childs poisoned and toxic materials emitted for the battery of just one of these things.
@@teasippingguy9316 ....and the pollution created from the massive mining areas flowing into the groundwater and lakes and oceans. It takes a tremendous amount of rare earth minerals just for ONE of the batteries....tons and tons of it.
I imagine the ladies like it.

You had reservations about the Hummer through the whole video and then figured it out at the end. It’s very cool and very high tech that dash is well designed. Kudos to GM they’re really knocking it out of the park!
This guy is such a great presenter - and in general has a look, sound and feel about him that is warm. And he is so clear about everything he reviews. This guy should do the evening news or run for office somewhere.
no. He looks honest and genuine.....
Totally agree. His character is perfect to present in this way.
Yes, nice way of reviewing.
I think he would make a good phone reviewer.
so hyped for the auto focus channel!
the auto focus series are some of my absolute favorite vids and i love cars
keep up the great work!!

Great video, love the simplicity of the shoot. Straight to the point!
Hummers have always been impractical. They tried making them smaller to make them practical and it ended up killing the brand
What brand?
lol, no the company going bankrupt in the 08 crash killed the brand.
I bet you do drugs.
I completely agree, the design overall is very well thought out. And if we are being honest it pays true homage to previous Hummer models with the exception of the H3 which itself was not as ridicoulus as the H2 or H1 before it.
Exactly and they can also very easily add space to add auxiliary buttons/features in the car/truck like lights, compressor…….
I will say, out of all the EV pickup designs, I like this one the most aesthetically.
It’s ugly in person

Loving this throwback vlog style of the classic MKBHD years!
I would turn off the vibration seats, replace the weels and tyres with 20" all terrains and enjoy this fun truck without the roof! This thing is AWESOME!
20” all terrains would be some terrible puny and small tires. Did you mean 20” rims with like, 40” tires?
Yep first thing I did as a new owner was vibration off and roof stored in the trunk for some open air.
Yes.@@nozrep
How's that for timing. Just finished your first video and you immediately upload the 2nd!
The tailgate also has another feature that I didn’t see covered. The little cutout section also opens up for a step up into the bed.
Ya my Silverado has that, I think its standard on Chevy/GM after 2022
This is the best EV ever because it has enough bed for a fuel tank and generator 😊
Every truck has that now
Marques, you should've tested it offroad, of course, dude, c'mon!
@@stephenj4937 I assume this is standardised across the entire EU, but in the Czech Republic, it is as follows:
standard license is class B: Vehicle under 3500 kg (7716 lbs) and no more than 9 occupants
class C1: vehicle under 7500 kg (16534 lbs) and no more than 9 occupants
Class C: vehicle not limited by weight and no more than 9 occupants
class D1: vehicle under 8 meters (27 feet) and no more than 17 occupants
Class D: vehicle "designed for transporting people"
All classes above allow towing up to 750 kg (1653 lbs) trailer, but only if the total weight of the rig fits into weight limit, so for the typical B class if you have a 750 kg trailer your vehicle must fit under 2750kg. To tow more you must get appropriate + E license, e.g. B+E or D1+E.
Fun fact, if you do your B class driving test in an automatic, your license only allows you drive auto, to drive manual you need to get retested.
@@boban250 The last bit with the automatic transmission was revised recently. Now they will quickly let you drive a manual during the training lessons, but you will do the exam with an automatic but are allowed to drive a manual later on.
9000 pounds sounds like a lot, but a lot of the 2500+ class heavy duty trucks that have been sold in the US for decades are pushing 8500 pounds. Yes it's heavy, but it's not that out of bounds as far as large, heavy duty trucks in the US are concerned.
Which makes sense.
LOVE Auto Focus. So good to see you chasing your interests and passions and branching out. Stoked on the low production value, one-take style. Rockin' it.
Also... In a truck, you generally call that back section the "bed" - not a "trunk" ;-)
Crab mode is for parking and trailer maneuvering. Someone might use it off road but it would have marginal and niche utility compared with coordinated steering mode.
I really like it. It's a true Hummer for Hummer enthusiasts so I think it's really good of them for keeping that spirit and not trying to appeal to a broader base. Don't think I'd ever buy one, but wouldn't mind spending a few days with it.
I really enjoy this format. My personal preference though, would be that your audio would still come from a mic on your person. I don't happen to watch videos with headphones and I find myself playing with the sound when you change camera angles cause I don't hear you as well or you come in too loud. I really don't want to sound like I'm hating on this, cause I love the videos and content. Keep up the great work.
Yep, great videos but deffo needs an audio upgrade to hear all of the useful commentary more clearly.
It’s funny that when you watch an MKBHD video you don’t always notice the high production quality, but you can definitely hear it when it’s gone :D Audio was the first one that I noticed too
Audio bottleneck
8:45 - Honestly, I think the seat is a better choice overall. if someone doesn't have hands on the steering wheel, the feedback won't do anything. However, someone who's not attentive will more than likely always have their butt in the seat 😅
I was thinking of someone who had fallen asleep and dropped their hands off of the wheel. I like the feature too. Oh and people who text and drive. 🙄
Exactly. The wheel vibrating might feel nicer, but the vibration isn’t there to feel nice.
the regen paddle was on the bolt, maybe the volt also. kind of a chevy thing. pretty useful I think

Had a pretty awesome 4WS system on my old 88 Honda prelude. It was very useful. Wheels turn the same way for lane changes and turn the opposite when doing u turns. All mechanical system and over 200k never had any issues. Makes me wonder why more cars don’t have it.
on an 88 Honda? Whoa. That's 2020 and later S-Class level optionality

Auto review without A SINGLE MILE OF DRIVING! Reviews that internet truly deserves.
This is probably the best center console yet that I’ve seen on an EV
One of my biggest gripes with nearly all the EV’s on the market right now is for the center console al they do is slap a touch screen in the censor and that’s it.
Great Non biased review man. Love your channel God Bless.
The increased regen paddle shifter came from the Chevy Volt. It's great, gives you just a bit more control over how fast you slow down.
The one from volt is binary, so all or nothing, I’m not sure what this one is but I prefer the continuous band of regent power the accelerator pedal gives me.
it's a modern jake brake! probability my favorite thing on the truck😄
Letting off the accelerating carefully does this in single pedal EVs.
I would have loved to see you parallel park using the crab walk, I feel like that would be particularly useful especially in such a massive truck. Great video!
I was thinking the same until I saw how long it took for him to enable crab mode. Maybe if you could switch in just 2 seconds it'd be useful.
I might be getting ahead of myself here, but could this new 2022 GMC Hummer EV very well be the greatest car ever made in all of automotive history???
The wheel doesn’t even turn close to 90 degrees. The time to park using crab walk would be longer than just traditional parallel parking
@@costco_pizza Nah, that title probably goes to the Toyota Camry.
@@ayushmalpeddi2793 It doesn't have to turn 90, it just has to turn. Crabwalk is a feature on a lot of construction vehicles and allows you to move something the size of a semi in to a spot about a foot longer than it and do it maintaining the same orientation.
5:07 That whole section of the tailgate also folds down and creates a step. All the higher end GM trucks have this tailgate.
This. Really seemed like he didn't even know it was there? Makes getting into it so much easier
@@norgeek The crazy part was that right before, he comments that the handle was useful except the tailgate was high off the ground. 🤦♂️. The whole point of the handle was to help when using the step.
Strange that as a reviewer he missed this feature.
Yeah he really missed that lol
I hate that you wasted all your money and don't even know what you bought! the tailgate folds down to a step which is why you have the handle that folds out to help you up the step! The front trunk bags are for holding your glass tops! the crab mode is for off road!
Great review & editing! Keep up the excellent work!
I’m so glad you’ve started this Autofocus. This is dope. Some constructive feedback here:
Maybe get a little more training around these vehicles before reviewing them when they send them. This video seems a little tone deaf as far as truck purpose. Indicated by calling the bed a trunk and totally omitting one of the coolest truck related pieces….The multipro tailgate (which also turns into a step outside of the fact that that it has an OEM speaker system)
Excellent job boiling things down especially for a transitioning audience and keeping in line with your tech focus! I think a little additional training (even around electric car details) could work wonders.
I see you. I commend you. Keep up the good work.
He says ‘the bed’ when discussing the bed multiple times
That's a cool correlation between the original H1 and this new electric one (in terms of buyer habits/styles). Also love the handheld phone vibe to this channel as other people have mentioned.
Sometimes the reason one is drifting in the lane is because one does not have a good hold on the steering wheel, or any hold. It's more rare that they're not sitting in the seat. I think that vibration makes sense.
"This is the ROG phone if trucks" An analogy I never would have imagined I'd hear in my life😂
How long is the bed? I think what a lot of car reviewers don't mention is the length of the bed, and the lack of these vehicles with the 6' or 8' beds. My current daily driver is a pickup. I would not consider buying my next pickup if it does not have at least a 6' bed. 8' is preferred. 6' I can fit a mattress in it if I'm moving or helping someone else move. Or can fit wood I'm buying for a project mostly in the bed without a bunch of overhang out the back. With an 8', I can fit almost all wood I would buy completely in the bed of the pickup without anything hanging out.
Almost exactly 5 feet. 6 inches than the f-150 lightning
You're not going to be able to go to Home Depot, and fill up the bed with 8' drywall panels and 8' 2x4 studs. This truck was designed to be a lifestyle vehicle, not a commercial work truck for contractors and tradesmen.
@@cyclopsvision6370 hence the shorter bed. It helps with the arrival and departure angles.
Rear wheel steering is also great for reversing with a trailer.
I like this style of video! The review seems more genuine than a version with snazzy B-roll and cuts.
One thing you might consider relative to the crab mode, going back to your parking comments, it would let you scoot side to side in a parking space to help your passengers, and given presence when a parking neighbor is present also them, a little better access in turn without getting misaligned with your space.
It's funny you mention this. I'm not an off-roader, so 99.9% of what I use crabwalk for is adjusting in a tight parking spot 😂
That paddle on the wheel would actually probably come in handy on steep downhill roads, given the extreme weight of this thing.
The phone camera quality is good enough, I like it!
The main issue though is the sound, it's either to lowd or too quite and it changes constantly
Needs a rode clip on mic to keep it consistent
Not really a car guy, but loving the videos. Thanks 😁👍
My worlds are colliding. Any chance I'll see you commenting on videos of people building log cabins in the wilderness?
Hey biffa, want a cuppa?
I guess you've set it up so that anyone who likes this vehicle will be ridiculed but in the face of that I'm going to say this is a really awesome EV.
Peace.
The Hummer showed it was paired to Pixel.
@@JALee8 I never noticed that. Well there you go. Thanks for that.
He did mention in the other video: iPhone 13 Pro
I think it’s the coolest ev made so far... good job GM!
I like the smartphone idea, although I would think an external mic (there's a lot of them for the iPhone) would improve the video a lot since the windnoise and shifts in audio channel is quite distracting for headphone users
Maybe also a gimbal. All the shaking is very distracting.
honestly doesn't need all that
The F150 lightning isn’t a great option if you actually need a truck for truck tasks, but it definitely looks practical by comparison to this thing.
