    The Ollie is arguably the most widely used snowboard trick and is the essential building block you should have locked in before trying any other snowboard trick. The reason it is so important is because it is used everywhere; in the terrain park, off jumps, when you're free-riding, hitting side hits and even just cruising around the mountain. The more you practice your Ollie's, the better you're gonna get at them.

    By far best Ollie tutorial ever! Thanks, the flat stationary practice was the key! This tutorial makes the other instructors look like they are not doing it quite right!

    I would advice to beginner snowboarders to just ollie all over the mountain on every little natural feature you can find until you get real good at them

    I just learned ollies last weekend and have been doing them on the flats mostly, I tried a few on the slopes and the park and it was terrifying! It seems so much different when you're moving at speed. Any tips for when to initiate the ollie going over a jump etc?

  • @tristanbrookes1246
    @tristanbrookes1246 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Surely pop off a kicker is a bit safer than a ollie as it’s stable? Also an ollie is good for height but doesn’t it limit your chance of clearing the knuckle compared to a decent pop ( as in compressed into take off then release )?

  • @radride

    Thanks for the tips. I've been doing it all wrong this whole time and not getting any air. I was trying to Ollie like I did back in the day when I was skateboarding and it wasn't working. Quick question though, do you always start an Ollie riding flat or do you have to ride an edge to initiate on a steep slope?

      I had the same problem all last season. Felt lame because on a skateboard I could ollie 6 boards easy, on a snowboard I was barely getting off the ground. That pre-pop shift seems to be key. Looking forward to trying this out in a few months. 😎

      @@SnowboardAddiction awesome thanks so much. I have been trying to pop only off the tail and for some reason my body naturally started weighting the front leg then shifting to the rear the last time I went out. Finally got a good Ollie off and feels a lot more natural.
      I like how you really emphasize that initial movement. I feel like all the other tutorials skip that movement. Hoping to get 180s and 360s next season!

    • @PhaseSkater
      @PhaseSkater 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Snowboard Addiction lol I just bought this one brand new for my first board. Bank account is down now. At least if I really work on the technique and power of popping on a stiff flat board, then when I get a poppy soft board, I’ll spring high in the air. That’s usually how it is in skateboarding. Do all your tricks on a soggy old flat skateboard and when you finally get that new fresh deck with strong pop and concave, your tricks go sky high

    • @SnowboardAddiction
      @SnowboardAddiction  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It sounds like you aren't using the flex of the board enough, go check out our new video on generating pop! :) th-cam.com/video/-bCYIDG_2wg/w-d-xo.html

    • @othullo

      @@SnowboardAddiction thanks for replying! To use the pop of the board, means I need to load it, like press it/bend it right? I find bending it is the tiring part, it’s like u press hard on a spring, takes a lot of power, then when I release it, it doesn’t even bounce that much. Is it because the board is too stiff for my weight n size? Would a softer board be easier to pop for a small size light weight guy?

    Why is this manoeuvre called an ollie?

    • @silverkw
      @silverkw 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's from a skateboard trick. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ollie_(skateboarding)

    • @falcon5751
      @falcon5751 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      because it was stolen from skateboarding and the guy who invented the ollie was called ollie, he first did them when hitting the coping on the half pipes as to lift up the front trucks and jump off the coping so to speak.

    Won't women have a hard time doing these high because of the board could be too heavy for them?
