  • Today I remove the 1FZFE motor out of my 1993 Toyota Land Cruiser to fix a broken timing chain guide/slipper and do an overhaul. Last month when I was replacing the valve cover gasket to fix some oil leaks I found a broken timing chain guide and in order to get to it you have to remove both oil pans and the cylinder head. I decided it's not worth it to do it in frame and removed the whole engine instead. Now I can replace everything and really go through this engine and refresh it! Later, this turns into a full engine rebuild.
    We were able to remove the engine by itself without the transmission but I'll definitely be removing the transmission too and installing these back as one unit. Way easier that way!
    The plan for this rig is to make it a capable off-road, overland, and camping vehicle.

    Next time to remove those tops bolt. Try drop the transmission down onto a jack lower it to lean the motor/everything back undo the top 2. Bolt the trans back up then undo the rest of the bolts and then attempt to remove the engine

    Hey boss, I guess this goes for anyone trying to separate motor from trans on theres for a swap, this is much easier.
    When I swapped my transmission, it instructs you to remove the center and shift console in order to remove the linkages obviously, but it also does leave a pretty sizable hole once everything is out.
    You can actually get much more access through using that hole and a breaker bar or long ratchet instead of going from underneath the rig. Just have a long enough extension or set of extensions and wobbles and youll be home free!
    Cheers!

    What a nightmare when you’re used to the simplicity of a pickup/4Runner

    There's an access panel just infront of the shift lever inside the cab just a pain getting the carpet up😊

      Are they!? Are you billygoatmtb on mud? I think we’ve talked in the cracked block thread!

      @@RM_Garage yup that's me BillyGoatMTB,
      You build looks great, looking forward to following your progress.
      My 1fz refresh is running great, with the hairline I'm planning on a new short block, head, and cams for a all new build.
      My project started with a very unconventional head gasket issue with great compression. I TH-cam the diagnosis as well as some of the build, hope it helps the next 80 series brother.

    you can reach the top bolts through the gear lever surround from inside the vehicle.

    Did you do a followup video to this? I'm curious whats behind the timing chain cover as I'm thinking about replacing it because I stripped the threads to the oil pump cover. I priced the TCC for about 255 on Amazon. But curious is there a gasket behind the TCC or do we put gasket maker RTV?
    Thanks!

      @RM_Garage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep! Check the channel for a whole rebuild series. There is no gasket, uses Toyota FIPG or RTV.
