Of all the axel repairs I have seen on line, this to me has the best chance of maintaining. The addition of three stud plug , reinforces the over all strength of the project. One man's opinion.
It was welded once already. You can see old weld mark's after he turned it ? Won't last on the roads they drive on.
These guys have been doing bush fixes like this since forever. It’s all handed down knowledge, most of it learned the hard way. Will this fix fail again someday? Given how these guys use equipment I’d say it’s likely! But if the owner can baby this for 6mo as he keeps an eye out for a replacement the it did it’s job. Keeping a truck on the road and earning for its owner.
Is it how we do things here in the States? Nope not anymore, and maybe we’re a bit poorer for that.

start using mig/ tig welders.. you need to remove flux before welding...
This type of repair should be welded with at least 7018 in stringer welding passes.I would has used 309 stainless welding rod.Or chrome moly rods.if not then 8018 welding rod which is similar to the base metal.Never use yet rod for this type of repair .not 6024 ,7024,7028 never 6012 or 6013.Don,t let the temperature between passes go over 300 farenheit.So as not to destroy the heat treatment or if the metal was tempered after heat treatment.

Isn't the weld weaker than the rest of the axle?
Yep.
That weld is definitely the weak point. No pre or post heat on an alloy axel and tons of porosity in the weld. When done correctly that is a viable method of repair, but it needs to be a full penetration weld with the proper filler rod and weld procedure.

Эта ось лопнула потому что она была перекалена, о чем забывают многие производители, контролировать. Чтобы она не лопнула ее надо просто положитьв ко тер и отпусть.
