Actually the Poles were very polite. They let Mahbubani talk and didn't interrupt him. This is remarkable considering that their views are totally in the opposite of Mahbubani's. If this had been held in US on a talk show, Mahbubani would not have been able to talk for 10seconds without being interrupted.
She is evidently an avid consumer of the narratives of the western mainstream media and wearing her misplaced emotional sentiments on her sleeve is an embarrassment.
About d Russian Ukrainian conflict, the Poles are quite selective n chosed to ignore certain things..like persecution of Russian Ukrainians, NATO eastward expansion, etc..haha
After the event in Smoleńsk in 2010, the Poles played a weird game of dubious pro-propaganda with the US EU and Russian, it is very weird game, and you only need to look at Ukraine now. A jungle world of bio and nuke, drones and missiles ... but they survived the Hitler Stalin 6-years war and the 40-years cold war , so this was ment to be so.
Although she keeps saying Russia is the aggressor, most of the non European world does not see Russia as an aggressor. Russia would not have invaded Ukraine if the US had not been behind the 2014 coup, if nato had not kept expanding eastward and if it had said that Ukraine will not be part of nato. Russia had little choice but to invade Ukraine because of those earlier events. That is the main difference in how we see Russia. Food prices may be high but we definitely do not blame Russia because the instigator of all these problems was /is the US. No doubt the worst thing is the loss of Ukrainian lives. That is the saddest situation. But I agree with John mearsheimer who says it is the US that led Ukraine down this path. We hope that Ukraine will be allowed by the US to negotiate peace with Russia. And it may be a bit cruel to state this given the wrong choice made, but if only Ukraine had not been persuaded out of the first settlement by Boris. There would have been half a million Ukrainian men still alive today.

You are exactly right! Prof Mahmubani was being diplomatic by citing he was not at expert on Russia and Russia invasion of Ukraine. I am sure he knew very well the reason ,being a diplomat in UN and a geopolitical observer for fifty years...He did not want to justify Russia's action for the simple reason Singapore took a stance ,on the behest of the US, to sanction Russia, and it would take a lot of explaining to do that would counter Singapore's position on Ukraine...so, the best way out was to say he did not want to touch on the subject. I can understand why the Polish finds the Russian as an aggressor because historically , Imperial Russia and modern day USSR had invaded Poland many times.
Ukraine politicians must be corrupted with money in USA and is held at ransom by USA, likes most other corrupted politicians from other country. That is how USA control other countries.
I have to say most of the Polish people have the thinking of "Europ's problem is the world's problem, the world's problem is not Europe's problem". They only remember how bad they were treated by the Russian or German, but always fail to remember how bad they treated other people when they together with the Lithuanian were running the show.

She was erased as a state during 39-45 from the european map , her intelligencia was killed in 1939 after Hitler ‘s invasion and her land desacrated by squalid concentration camps ! Europe is an idiotic victim of a war someone else created against her will, for Ukraine should have remained neutral and accepted , as concluded during the Minsk accord ,to grant the autonomy to the Domblast region ! are these people supposed to the elites of Poland? I will be very surprised if yes. oh my...unbelievable... like professors talking to high school kids
These people are not the elites of PL, but the polish elites present the same school of thought unfortunately. A year ago if someone said in a debate in Poland that the article 5 of NATO doesn't work "automatically" and that we may end up in a solo fight it was deemed by majority that saying things like that is undermining of NATO and pro-Russian - and that's only one example of naivety, there's ton of more. Foreigners must understand that our political system, political parties have roots in the Solidarity movement - people ruling our country are simple workers who didn't have much sources of information for majority of their lifetime, their view of the West is idealistic because they hated the Soviet Bloc, therefore it is very hard for them to crush the old view on the West inside their heads.
This is a very good dialogue. The mentalities are so different and they are adversarial, but I hope some of the points Mahbubani was making got through. Mahbubani once made an insightful observation: Everyone was predicting that Europe's past would be Asia's future, meaning that Europe have achieved peace while Asia would be like the pre-war Europe with wars breaking out of all over. Then he said, yet the guns are silent in Asia. And now wars are breaking out in Europe. Mahbubani was very patient and tried his best to avoid talking about Ukraine, but even he lost some patience: Europe, do whatever you want, but face and accept the consequences. Poland isn't facing the consequences. Ukraine is.
Kishore: Ascended master in geopolitical reality. The rest in the video: Naive hordes of children thinking Santa Claus exists and the world is always Garden of Eden.
This is the first time I listen to Polish people talk that much. I found the Polish are lovely people but it is very dangerous when it comes to Geopolitics. The Polish stand firm to China but on the other hand, the richest CEOs like Elon Musk, Tim Cook and CEO of Boeing are lining up to go to China. Why they are going to China and not Poland, think about it my friend
You ask why PolandPISM has only 3.2 subscribers and an international event featuring the knowledgeable Kishore Mahbubani can only attract 3.2 k views after 3 weeks on TH-cam ? Just listen to the naive comments and accusations thrown by this Polish "China expert" at Prof. Mahbubani !
Prof Mahbubani, a stumbling Chinese economy is likely to enjoy a US$1 trillion trade surplus in 2023, not only doubled the pre pandemic 2019 level but larger than Poland's entire GDP!
This is so entertaining that I'm watching it a second time. The naivety of the Poles represented by the host and the audience is so astounding and I salute Prof Mahbubani for being his usual learned articulate self, having the patience to explain to people who obviously have an engrained bias.
Mahbubani: I advise that you be as pragmatic as possible. US has been and will always be pragmatic. US went to bed with Mao, even though it is a superpower. It has already had one Trump. Polish neocon: We need to stand up to big powers and let them know there are red lines they cannot cross. Ukraine is fighting and dying for the red line. Mahbubani: You should do what you want. Stand up for your principles and accept the consequences. That about summarizes the whole conversation.
Summery of this conversation. Poland - EU we won't change or adjust with changing world order & we would go to war to prevent it. Most asian countries want to adjust with changing world order & don't want to fight war.
Poland was one of the cheerleaders of the invasion. Poland even sent some troops to Iraq. Mahbubani was too polite and diplomatic to mention this. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polish_involvement_in_the_2003_invasion_of_Iraq
Professor Mahbubani, thank you for shining your thoughts on the global realities any country should be thinking about. This is the first time I have witnessed a forum where the professor faces European-centric thinking, which is most interesting. He did an amazing job!
I don’t think Russia woke up one morning and decided to invade Ukraine, maybe the Europeans should see the Russians perspective on behaviours of their western neighbors since the end of the Soviet era. Also the host made emotional comments of Russians killing the Ukrainians, but before the invasion, Ukrainians themselves are killing each other. There are actually many Ukrainians in the east that welcomed Russia military intervention, even pleaded for Russia to do so before.

The PISM speakers state their view of Europe, Asia and Global issues. Kishore state his view of Europe issues as an outsider with some facts and examples, emphasizing pragmatic "national interests". There is cognitive dissonance between the two approaches and conclusions. The audience can weight the evidence and decide for themselves.

33:58 Whataboutism... clearly is from discussion with people without children. If you do not practice fairness in dealing with your kids, you will have no end to the conflict...
Another great performance by Prof. Kishore. The audience does not understand meaning of looking into geopolitics & being utterly pragmatic. Firstly Poland is not Ukraine because is Poland is already under US nuclear protection umbrella - NATO, and economically part of EU, but is border & very near Russia - that's the Poland's geopolitics reality, not other Asian countries. To be pragmatic for Poland, may further invest in military strength as "porcupine" that deters anyone, including Russia to try attack. That's just as tiny countries in dangerous regions like Singapore, Korea, Taiwan, Israel & etc had to do. But also to improve the economic performance, and then become a good reason for West to project (like Taiwan with semi-conductor for USA to protect for their own self interests.) Try to look beyond academic levels but realism and pragmatism to situations.
I don't think US will intervene if war breaks out because of Taiwan declaring independence; actually, US is already moving the chip making capacity out from Taiwan
The context some foreigners might lack while listening to it is, that Poland has Just gone through ± 200 years of brutal occupation/hard dependency and it DID affect the way the people here see the world. This is one of the differences between the Eastern and Western Europe that might not be very well visable for the people from (for example) Asia at first. Also, as a Pole, I just wanted to let you know that luckily PISM does not represent all of the polish academia nor the strategic thought. Luckily. And hopefully, this - idealistic - thinking will keep vanishing as it is right now.

On the housing issue in China, you can see it as profit-taking after 30 years of bull-run. Chinese households have huge savings. There is a large pool of property buyers waiting to enter the market. Another point is that Chinese property tycoons have borrowed extensively, especially USD from foreign institutions. Remind you that only China has the economic health and size for hot money. Wishfully, those risk-takers are waiting for the Chinese government to bail them out. But China and the USA are having an economic war currently. Chinese government and investors won't step in until those speculators have bled out. Ha ha ha!
The housing prices have been going up too fast and for too long. The property developers were trying to corner the market by outgrowing each other. China introduced the three red lines (limit borrowings) to cool things down.

One feature of Asia which is lacking in the West is respect for elders. Prof Mahbubani presents cogent arguments based on many years of study and experience. The emotional responses of the crowd suggesta difficult future for Poland.

She is biased opinionated and her mind is fixed.
When we invite a guest to hear his opinion we should take this opportunity to learn his perspective. We can disagree but we should take the most from it. Dear PISM learn from this brutal experience - you were faced with reality, deal with it.

MR. KESHOR IS EXCELENTLY AND FANTASTICALLY WELL EXPLAINED AND THINKS TRUTHFULLY ON A SUPER HIGH LEVEL.
Prof Mabhubani one of the greatest scholars
Are you joking? Krimea was also taken In peace way? Russia is aggressive!!
@@margaretxxx8286 , Was Crimea historically part of Ukraine? I thought it was incorporated to Ukraine by Khruschev to permit Ukraine to have a seaport?
@@margaretxxx8286 The population of Crimea is Russian, has been for generations. They voted to be incorporated into Russia. Since they were treated as second class citizens by the Ukranian government. Suggest you read the other Reply which gives you some background when the war really started. The Ukranians were used to provoke Russia into a war with Ukraine and supported by Nato. They thought Russia was for the taking and imposing sanctions would crash its economy. They thought they would be drinking vodka in Moscow by Spring! So how did that work out? The tools destroyed Europe all themselves!

These people are not the elites of PL, but the polish elites present the same school of thought unfortunately.
High school?! Elementary at best!
@@kamillencki1557 . Thanks for the info, though I question how it can be still true after so many years since the Solidarity Movement?
Ukraine is.
Prof Kishore should be more blunt to his audience. But yes, he is great.
His training is in diplomacy. Notice that he avoids the most explosive issue of the Ukrainian war while the host kept goading him.

Even a wiseman cannot move sway this group of hot-headed teenagers. How sad
One advice to the host, go back to school do more home work!

I guarantee you one thing if China surpasses the United States you're going to get a whole hell of a lot more than just an economic war.
