    let me share a mistake that i made: Dont let the whole blue/brown/black belt thing get in your head too much. Everyday is different. Sometimes you may fail black belt drills, sometimes you cant do blue belt. Don't get angry if you have a bad day like i did. If you catch yourself having a bad day, stop practicing and try again on the next day with a fresh mindset and a rested body.

    Hi. I’m a new subscriber. Been riding since 1986. Here’s my question: how do you do a u-turn going down hill and going up hill?
    Love to see u do a video showing us how to do it.
    Thanks

    • @MichaelJeffrey
      @MichaelJeffrey ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes! I want to see this video. Went to a parking lot when I was learning and kept losing power as the bike went up the hill and gaining momentum as it went down. I almost dropped the bike many times. Was hard as hell for me and kinda created some fear in leaning. In a nutshell, I was trying to do circles on a slope

    Re rear brake: I realized it became more essential the first time I drove with a passenger. Not just the extra weight being harder to stop, but the distribution means you don't get NEARLY as much nice front-brake weight shift.

    My instructor kept telling me I was scared of the bike leaning because I was upright. I'm a female and it was my first time on a motorcycle. I didn't fall once and I was able to do normal turns and I only failed the test because I didn't go fast enough on the quick stop, I messed up the u turn and I stepped on the blue line when I came to a stop. Of course I need to practice my clutch and throttle control. But idk why he kept saying I was scared because if i wasn't leaning, then i would have gone straight 😅 it's like he was trying to get into my head or something

      Fret not. I took a Rider's Ed course long, long ago, and I was the first to run the course for the final. I got to the stop-and-make-a-quick-left-turn part, and foop! I put my foot down after leaning the bike right back up. Lost a ton of points, but still passed. What happened? Hit a patch of oil. They cleaned it up, and the rest of the class ran the course with no problems at that particular part. Sometimes you can do no wrong, but still wind up in not the best of situations. At the end of the day, it's "practice, practice, practice."
      You got this.
      Be safe. Ride.

    Thanks for the video. I have been practicing a lot and I can make u turns in three parking spot on my Honda rebel in friction zone and no rear break. Your videos have been very helpful. Ive been riding for about 6 months now. A few questions:
    They recently paved parts (leaving large black rectangles) of the street on the route I practice on. It feels like the friction between the newer section is different than the older area. Is this just in my head or is this a thing? Im especially nervous about the patch on a 40 degree curve.
    Second question: Ever almost fall over because of gravel where you stop? Like, I pulled up to a stoplight the other day, and when I put my foot down (bike was at less than 1mph at this time and it was time to put the feet down), I put my foot down on gravel, slipped a little, and nearly fell over. Im sure I looked as stupid as I felt lol, almost fell over at a stop. Are there other 'gotchas' youve seen like that?
    Again, thanks for making these.

    Thanks for the channel, great videos. It's been a lot of help. One question, aside from technique, is do you (or anyone) have suggestions on how to find a good practice parking lot? Every time I stop to practice at a parking lot (even at a huge lot at a nearly abandoned mall) security will come out and shoo me away. "You can't do that here - private property," they say. I don't argue but have inquired how to obtain permission without much information in way of a response. I respect they are just doing their job but it's frustrating. Unfortunately, I am tending to not bother practicing especially with any set up such as cut tennis balls or cones. Are there certain types of businesses/places where anyone finds they are more lenient to letting a rider practice and particularly set up some cones/balls? I have found a couple of spots (one at a disused park and another at a completely abandoned building) that work in a pinch but they are dirty lots with moss and trash - not to mention pretty sketchy. If it matters I live in Atlanta (intown or ITP eastside for locals).

      I don’t know if this would work for you, but in the summer, I have used the parking lots of local high schools. Newer schools are better since their pavement tends to be better.

    Hey man, I've been riding a lot on dirt roads (I bought a Transalp 700) but I'm falling like nobody's business on u-turns. It's very irritating. I can manage tarmac turns OK, but on dirt, I can't lean the bike and I'm going too slow. I'm kinda lost. Can you make a video about u-turns on dirty roads, or perhaps give me some points? I'm sorry to ask and do what you can if you can. Cheers.

      I've been focusing on keeping my weight on my outside peg with maintaining vertical to outside body position with the bike leaned to the inside. Using your body to counterweight the bike. It's been getting much easier the more I've practiced it... This is all on my Super Tenere 1200.

    • @SFUndertaker
      @SFUndertaker 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Your issue is likely due to losing traction. First, I am no expert, but after a couple of RawHyde courses and riding my 1200GSA on dirt, I’ve learned a few things. Traction at low speed on the tarmac is generally a non-issue, hence no great need to weigh the outside peg. However, it is more critical in a low-traction environment, so your (likely) front tire won’t wash out. The principles of the basic skills are the same, but there are differences on hard surface versus low traction environment riding and motorcycle handling characteristics. I’ve learned (kinda) the hard way. Many bruises on my body and ego to prove it. Now I suck a bit less.

    • @ElectronNinja
      @ElectronNinja 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Dirt boi here. On loose or slippery dirt, you aren't going to be able to use traction and speed to lean the bike over for super sharp turns. Instead, use your body weight. You can get incredibly tight full lock turns by standing and hanging off the outside of the bike. Bias to the outside peg and adjust as needed for balance.

    • @ADVBear
      @ADVBear 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CRGmotors Thank you for your reply. I'll try to do more of that. I think my issue is balance.

    • @ADVBear

      @@SFUndertaker This 'outside peg' is coming up a lot... I think my problem is that I'm not leaning my body to the outside enough - or at all, really. I'll experiment and practice more. Thank you, man.
