I'm new at this so I appreciate any and all ideas! I'm not into release papers but I do save and use the backing sheets of all sticker sheets and used them (shiney side down) as a resting spot under my hand/arm as I work.

I too love to diamond paint for the therapeutic purposes. I have been doing it for about 5 years and also started with Amazon (and Wish - that was a nightmare!!!) I have seen so many tips and tricks but never this one. It’s very interesting. I may have to try it. 😃💜

I use a silicone mat to set my pinky on, ads a little cushion too. Plus it covers up the sticky section. I bought it off Amazon, Silicone Mats for crafts. 12 x 15 or larger, opaque or color ones and easy to cut down to any size you wish. I’m new too, started DP last Dec, love it.

@@diamondsandthoughts I forgot to say, if you get the silicone mats, place the shiny side down.

I have always started on the right side, so as I loved to the left, there are already drills down so I don't get in the glue. Our you can use the release paper to be under your wrist as you work. So you can still do a larger section, protect the canvas as you go, all the while keeping the precision of being able to rest your hand.

I am starting on the right side for the first time ever on the custom that just came in from Jaded Gem Shop. I am hoping one day I can show it online. But I have to get permission first. I am liking it so far though. (Starting from the right instead of starting from the left. I am also enjoying my custom too.)

I also just started back in about feb/march as well when I found Naomi’s stash vid that’s what drew me into the craft even further because I had no idea what a variety of companies were out there you know?!

I recorded this a long time ago and somehow didn't post it Oops. But I found her after this video and she talks about this trick in one of her videos too. Her stash video is a good one.

I too love Naomi! I’ve learned a lot from her as well. I don’t remember which creator I saw that suggested right handers to start at the right and go to the left. I too want to lay down my pinkie to stabilize myself and that one change has been a game changer. My last tip - which may or may not be an option - is that my nail extensions help. The edge of my pinkie nail is the perfect little stabilizer. Unfortunately, I picked up an autoimmune disease post-Covid (the virus that never truly leaves some of us) and between that and the meds, my nails are super brittle, requiring UV gel to harden them. Since I have to get them done each time I get into civilization anyway, why not add a teeny bit of length, right? 🤪

Oh man! I wan a get my nails done but i have to stick with stickers for now! And yes Naomi is amazing.
I never thought of starting on the right and going left. I should try that!

@@diamondsandthoughts I have to admit that it felt strange to start on the right, but after only one painting it seemed to become natural. I just started a new painting a few days ago and I had laid my release papers from left to right before I did it on auto-pilot! LOL

@@diamondsandthoughts Although I have to admit that I love making my nails look prettier, that truly is not the impetus behind this. When I say that my auto-immune and meds wrecked my nails, they really 100% ruined them. They are so thin, ridged, and brittle now that doing literally anything - washing my face, pulling the blanket up in bed, getting dressed or undressed - would make my nails split, sometimes horizontally but mostly vertically, and always up past the quick. After two years of this, my Dermatologist suggested I try it to give them a suit of armour, basically. I am SO thrilled to not be in constant pain from my nailbeds and I have fun playing with designs. If someone had told young me that my nails would get thin and brittle even ten years ago, I would have laughed in their face. I studied piano from the time I was five right to a B.Mus. are you university. During all those years, I was not allowed ANY free-edge (the white part) of my nail showing as they click on the ivory. Then I went to work in offices, so long nails were a hinderance in typing and filing. I just turned 60 in May and this having nails is still a novelty for me and I live by my fave Auntie’s motto: “I have to get old; I do not have to grow up!” 🤣

That sounds painful! I cant imagine that at all. My nails crack and peel but not like that. The sickers seem to work fine for that. Piano is so beautiful. I have only played wind instruments. my tiny fingers can't reach the keys lol.

You may have a easier time of it if you work from the right side instead of the left.
