  • This dreamscape is a collaboration between Abigail Roscoe and Severin Solovej for our exhibition “El Hilo De Los Sueños “. This video was presented as an installation piece, in a dark room surrounded by paintings and photography by Abigail Roscoe.
    Comments from both artists:
    A. Roscoe: I often have deep, strange dreams that walk the line between becoming a dream or a nightmare, and often, they tend to be a mix.
When I made the video I was trying to interpret my own dreams- often repeating layered visions of places I've been, but also there is a recurring motif: the wolf, the axolotl, and other animals present such as the spider. The places I've been in blur, loop, and distort themselves. The dream is uncertain, but alluring. In the video I overlaid clips of my thesis which was an animation titled Dreamweavers. This animation also explored the state of dreams and the subconscious but more so focusing on imagination and the visuals. For this video I also created a new segment of Animation there is a new loop of a coyote jumping through a river and fish flowing and the solving into trees and various stages of transformation. I then overlaid all of this animation and video footage clips that I've taken and tried to create to my best ability a representation of my own dreams.
    Sev:
I wanted to connect my experiences with the few, albeit scary vivid dreams I've had, and the dreams recounted to me by a few friends. However, as I've been part of Ab's creative process this entire time, I was able to draw inspiration from their weird and surreal dreams. I wanted my work to reflect the feeling dreams evoke- I felt inspired by Ab's paintings and the inconsistency and chaos of the subconscious . Dreams are rarely linear or solid, and the tempo changes in my track are meant to reflect different stages of sleep. Combining the track with the music, we were hoping to explore the progression of dreams, how it often feels like you are slipping into the subconscious state, then followed by a sense of uncertainty, not sure wether the dream is a dream or a nightmare, and wanted to end the track in a way that lifts the mood and turns back into a dream, looping, and starting this journey all over again. During the process of this project, we also referenced other work that we've done- we utilize clips from our debut audiovisual proyect and warped it with new animation created by Ab, overlaid it on video footage that Ab recorded, and together we edited a piece that we hope immerses you in the feeling of a dream.
I enjoyed this collaboration, and We hope to create more alebrijes, more audiovisual proyects, and more animation and installations together. This is the start of our dream.

When i'm going to die, i want this or something very close to it play as credits sequence. If you know what i mean. I live in a completely different environment, so i find many frames and compositions alien to me, as in i definitely don't get that exact idea and feeling that author is conveying, and yet the overall setup of how frames intertwine with soundtrack and animations and some of more general ideas - all that makes me think that i know exactly what is going on here. Or rather, feel exactly that. I honestly wouldn't mind watching three or four hour long version, or rather just having it around and knowing that i can spend an evening alone, uninterrupted, drifting along with this...
