Movie has soul . The actors told a great story . Chris Tucker is a great storyteller through his comedy . He was comic relief but he still conveyed the seriousness of addiction, poverty , ptsd, and being black in America. Very multi dimensional artist . These movies weren’t just to glorify bank robberies it was informative about how systematic oppression can make you turn to this. Great movie . One of my favorites along w/ set it off .

Yeah the movie had a whole lot of heart and soul and not only touched on racial issues because there's also the terrible way Larenz and his band of brothers black and white soldiers were treated by the country they sworn to protect is just a whole other type of dirty and evil that the film so brilliantly addressed. Larenz Tate, Keith David, Chris Tucker, Terrence Howard, Bokeem Woodbine etc. all so great in their roles! Idk if you've ever seen The Godfather, Taxi Driver or Goodfellas but imo this movie ranks up there with those iconic crime drama\thrillers. You mentioned Set It Off which is another good one.

@@kendallrivers1119 hmmm 🤔... You mean the way black soldiers were treated???? Here's some food for thought. Did you know Puerto Ricans, Trinidadians, and native americans served in Vietnam... Oh how do I know? Because I worked in military records... Not a Hollywood set... Then why does a guy who looks like John Wayne get all the credit. Because the Illuminati play y'all for idiots... Even now lot of Africans and Bosnians fighting for USA in the military. Where's their war movie??????!? It's not just white guy in uniform fighting...

Dead Presidents is a movies, movie...
One of my top five...of all time..!!
Some friends and I were kicking back, smokin' n relaxin' when someone said... "Put a movie on or somethin' man"...guess what that film was...
Comfortably numb and sunken way deep into that couch, Dead Presidents took me on one hell of a ride..!! It was like living a whole other life, in an afternoon...and opened my young eyes to many many things. One of the most blessed and life changing things, was the music...most of all I would say, was Issac Hayes..!!
All I could say, to EVERYONE involved...
    Thank you..!!

I never thought that Dead Presidents was a back exploitation film. Crazy though I was in a TV production with the Hughes Brothers and they would play their Underground films for us every Friday in class. Yeah its an underrated Vietnam film along with a story of life for Africa Americans during the 60s also a heist film. Its not easy to mix genres and deal with serious subjects as they did. Nothing wrong with the black exploitation films as everyone loves a good cheesy action or horror film but Dead Presidents was way more gritty and real then that and not a fun film but dark and a movie to show the truth of struggle and life for many dealing with addiction and PTSD after the war. Yeah it also showed the otherside the Africa American story of that era which hadn't really been shown in film before. Most Vietnam films were around the story of the typical caucasian and their struggle. Its good to see another perspective. That is what has always been great about the Hughes brothers they are willing to make more controversial films then just stick to the usual Hollywood narrative. Their films are gritty and real and hold nothing back and true stories that need to be told. Dead Presidents is a powerful film because it doesn't hold back but is in your face and real. Its cool to know its loosely based on a true story. Its a story not just of Vietnam but Harlem. Great classic 90s film for an era where Hollywòod was willing to put out great films. A classic for sure.
