Jenny's character played a 'typical' portrayal of sexual abuse trauma and how it basically affected all her relationships for the rest of her life. (Btw, Jenny didn’t send the letters back, the postal service just couldn’t find her.)

You heard Forrest say Jenny's Father liked "touching" & "kissing" her & her sister's all the time!!?? Put yourself in Jenny's little mind & body & try to imagine the HELL she experienced everyday from birth! Imagine a little girl, basically a baby, having to deal with a grown, smelly, drunk & violent adult male sexually molesting you, raping you on a regular basis! -And that is supposed to be her Dad??

@gregloya3083 Alright let me put it like this When one thinks about films that have "aged well" one thing they kinda have in common is that they have captured what it means to be, or feels like to be, a human being. Technology and film making techniques will inevitably change and improve, but you know our sense of curiosity, our anxieties, feelings etc probably won't change all that much as they are what makes us human. Films that don't explore these conditions are generally doomed to age poorly; Movies that are popular and great only because of trending characteristics such a slag, phases of fashion etc will age bad due to the fact that no one will care nor understand those concepts in 30 years . I am trying to get my point without writing a novel ! Long story short THIS movie aged amazing For being OLD . it was a compliment I hope you can see my point now . Good day
One of the best things from this movie is that Gary Sinise was so moved from playing a Viet Nam veteran that he has devoted his life to helping and supporting veterans.

NIXON was the president of the United States. In this movie he invites Forrest to a new hotel WATERGATE. In this hotel the FBI founded some documents that ended with the dismission of Nixon , and the case was called Watergate. In the movie Forrest is the one who alert the FBI there were people in that hotel just as it was the beginning of the case
Pretty close Mr. Alfredo. President Nixon's attempt at reelection included an illegal effort to collect information about his main opponent in the 1972 election. It led to a break-in and burglary at the Democratic Party headquarters in the Watergate building, where Forrest was staying. The local police force in Washington DC was alerted to strange activity one night, and those police arrested burglars in the building, who would later be connected to the President and senior advisors by the FBI and news reporters - which led to his resignation in 1974.

Actually, Nixon had a secret source of money that was used by his secret operatives to undermine political rivals. His operatives broke into the Democratic National headquarters at the Watergate office complex with the intent of bugging the offices. A security guard interrupted the burglary and the men were arrested which started an investigation by newspapers that eventually revealed that Nixon was directly involved. Nixon resigned.
Actually the Committee to reelect the president (CREEP, not joking) broke into the Democratic national headquarters in the Watergate hotel. The coverup which Nixon was involved in was the scandal causing him to resign
Jenny never felt she was good enough for Forrest. That was why she stayed away from him. She felt she was damaged goods. Finally realizing later after she got off drugs and a bad life that she had not treated Forrest well. Great reaction!!
Exactly right! Plus, not only does she feel 'not good enough' for Forrest, but very likely Jenny thought she was abusing him, in the same way she had been abused. Those who have suffered at the hands of another person often try to make sense of what has happened to them by taking on the guilt of their attacker. Their fear of lack of control is so strong, so profound, they'd rather see themselves at fault, because at least that brings any solution to the situation back within their reach. They 'must have screwed up somehow', they think, because something so awful coming at them, unmerited, random, unpredictable, is too horrible to contemplate. In Jenny's case, she realized that as a child, she couldn't have influenced her father, but the desire to find some fault in herself and make some part of the pain fixable was so strong, she convinced herself she had inherited his predilections for abusing sexually someone weaker, emotionally younger.
So, Jenny's dad took advantage of her when she was a child, and now here she was 'taking advantage' of a childlike man, who didn't even 'know what love is'. She was protecting Forrest by removing from his life a 'monster' like herself, daring to have romantic feelings toward this good person who, while lovable, was unable to reciprocate love, being forever a child (or so she thought). Jenny was disgusted with herself for having the audacity to indulge in romantic feelings for someone like Forrest. As she told the cab driver, she wasn't running from anything. It was the morning after the night before, and in the cold light of day, in her mind, she was removing a threat from poor Forrest -- herself.
Jenny saw Forrest as a childhood friend first-and-foremost, also she was his friend when nobody else was and long before he became rich
Jenny's character portrays what many victims of abuse go through in life when they don't get proper treatment and therapy. Going from abusive relationship to abusive relationship. Not being able to love themselves, running away from people who treat them well, because internally feel they don't deserve love and at the same time fear the love will become betrayal, like his father's did. Forrest seems to understand how damaged and hurt she is when he says "some times, there are just not enough rocks".
I don't know what the writers had in mind, if during the three years Forrest was running she went to therapy, or if being a mother grounded her, she looked more peaceful at the end, even accepting her imminent death. There is an evident transformation in the character at the end.

Forrest embodies what it means to love unconditionally. He's pure in a way that most are not. I think most viewers understandably want to relate to Forrest and put themselves in his shoes, and for sure Jenny hurt him, so most viewers react to her mistreatment of Forrest the way they would if they were in his position.
But really I think most people are closer to Jenny and have backgrounds that damaged them and doubts that make them question if they're worthy of love. Jenny pushed Forrest away because she convinced herself she was sparing him, and it took her a long time to realize that was wrong.
If Forrest still loves her, not because of her faults but in spite of them, so should you. Instead of wishing Forrest would react like a 'normal' person and denounce Jenny, it is us who should aspire to rise to Forrest's level of love, patience, and hope for the future.
Resounding yes! So much of this movie was this message.

Like if you said to a woman that gets beaten by her bf to just bear it, love him despite it and have patience. Life isn't that easy, Forrest is an extreme case of purity because of his lower intelligence, he doesn't understand that things are more complicated than as he sees them, he is something like a puppy. It's ok not to be with someone who doesn't deserve you.

People who want to put themselves in Forrest's shoes haven't paid close attention to what it's like to be in Forrest's shoes.
From Elvis to AIDS (or Hep C) Forrest Gump is the story of a generation; the historical touchstones, the music, the traumas, and the philosophical and existential questions we wrestled with. It always fun to watch to watch people react and see which things the recognize or remember and which they don't. I enjoyed your reaction, even though I have to disagree with you about Jenny. You recognize her trauma and the effect if had on her self-worth, but (IMO) underestimate how it influenced every (bad) decision in her life as she tried to run from it in any and every way possible. Keep up the excellent work.
As someone born and raised in the American South, I can confidently say that the most accurate part of this movie is that we will sit next to a complete stranger and end up telling our life story. I've done it to at least two people in the past month, and it's happened to me five or six times.

Everyone quickly forgets that Forrest was running for over 3 years. Jenny had no way of contacting him. No cell phones in the 70s.
I'm glad you realized Jenny wasn't really a bad person. She hurt Forrest, but it wasn't out of malice. Because of her abusive background, she felt broken and worthless. She did love Forrest, but thought she didn't deserve him. That's why she left him in DC and got on the bus with the guy who hit her. That's the kind of guy she thought she was worthy of.
Yes. This is a point that a lot of these movie reactors don't quite get. Abused people often have low opinions of themselves and who they are worthy of.
This is the kind of guy she was worthy of. I had an extremely rough up bringing too, in and out of the foster system, I’ve been to juvie. In and out with DCFS my father was an abusive drunk, my mom wasn’t around. But I would never do what Jenny put forest through. Just because she had a rough upbringing doesn’t excuse her selfish, whoreish, waste of human existence.

I see the situation the opposite from you: Jenny is shielding Forrest from her life because she knows she is a mess. And promiscuity is a very common trait for women (and men to a lesser extent) who have been sexually abused.

Alabama’s football team is still a powerhouse to this day. The coach in this movie is a nod to Bear Bryant who basically created the machine it is today 🤗
Bear is a legend. But he didn't create what Alabama is today. They were not a major powerhouse for the national title for about 20 years after him. Alabama was not a threat during the 80s and 90s. Saban is the only reason Bama is Bama. Bryant was just a HOF coach, but it was in the 60s that he peaked

Jenny was a very hurt child who grew up to be a confused woman. We all know how childhood experiences can twist us. She never lied to Forest that she was romantically in love with him, he kept trying, she made it clear to him that she was lost and possibly depressed. I feel sorry for her, not everyone can show love or accept it. And you're all very hard on her.
Everyone has bad experiences. My life was far from perfect. I was never so self destructive and manipulative.
All through adult Jenny's storyline she only showed up in his life when she wanted something from him. Even when they ran into eachother by accident she would get him in fights then get mad at him for protecting her.
I can accept that her upbringing was bad and also blame her for her terrible choices as an adult.
Even in the end. She had a kid with Forest and said nothing. She most likely would have never said anything to him. She got sick and knew she was going to die. So she had no choice and again had to use forest. That's not okay.
It's okay to like her but people are hard on her because she deserves it. She's manipulative and toxic. Yes you can blame it on her upbringing. But it doesn't absolve her of her choices. Your upbringing only matters as much as you let it.

1. She shows up at his house with nothing and nowhere else to go. She wants a place to stay. She has sex with him then runs away again.
2. At the end she sends him the letter knowing she's going to die and is then forced to tell him about their son because she won't be alive to take him. At no point did she try to contact him earlier so she 100% only sent that letter once she knew she had no choice.
All the other times they see eachother are happenstance or he goes to see her. However even in those times we see her repeatedly put him down. Assume his feelings for her are wrong because he isn't intelligent enough to know what love is.
Yes she cared about him but that doesn't negate all the horrible choices she's made.

1. She didn't stay with him for very long, so I don't think that "she needed place to stay" is a reason she came. Forrest was rich at this point, and she didn't ask him for any money.
2. Agree, she did wanted something from Forrest, but it was not for her personal gain it was for their child. Other option was foster care.

1. How long she stayed doesn't change the fact that she only went there when she had nowhere else to go. Forrest himself says she had nowhere else to go and that's why she went to him.
2. Again no. She could have told him about his son LONG before she realized she was dying. Again only going to him as a last resort or when she needs something and has no other options. Yes foster care isn't a better option then be with the rich father. However instead of telling him about it or contacting him or even trying to. She got her own place and kept the kid a secret until she didn't have any other choice.
I didn't make her out to be anything. All of the things I said she did. She actually did. I'm not making her out to be anything. I'm just stating her actions.
My words are true. Every single time she goes to him. It's because she needs something or he's the last resort because her other options either don't work or she doesn't have any other options.
She did manipulate him. She did repeatedly put him down. Thinking he doesn't understand how to care for people because he's dumb or how when he gives her advice on bad people in her life she disregards it as he doesn't understand and that those people aren't like that all the time.
So I say again. How are none of these claims solid when all of them are hard facts on things Jenny did and said during the movie. Did she have a bad childhood? Yes it was terrible. However that doesn't then mean that all of her shitty decisions can be absolved. No she's an adult. It is up to her what she does and doesn't do. In her case she made almost all terrible choices.
So you tell me then. Can you name a single time she came to him. (Not bump into eachother like at the naked guitar show or like at the speech about Nam.) Without the situation being forced or her not having any options?
Also all your doing is making excuses for her terrible choices. You aren't saying anything about how she's good. Do you know why that is? Because you cant. Jenny is a kindhearted idiot who made so many bad choices in her life that she almost died and eventually got an illness that did kill her. Forrest should get checked cuz if it was aids or something he might have it too. 🤷

Some people make Jenny out to be the villain in this movie. The truth is she was a victim of child abuse and it prevented her from ever finding peace, until she finally had a child herself and was able to accept true love. Her character arc is, to me, the most important in the movie.

She was broken as a child through abuse and it shaped her entire life, she constantly tells Forrest to just run because that's the only way she knows how to deal with problems in her life or things she doesn't understand.

I used to hate Jenny too. But if you think about it, her father destroyed her ability to have a healthy relationship with men. She thought Forrest was too good for her, and that she only deserved men like her father. That’s why she was suicidal.
At least it’s easier to think of her as damaged than evil.

@@mattfinleylive clearly not, and for her chacter it's made quite clear from the start with her troubled past, her solution to everything is to run. This is why her advice to Forest was always "Run!". In her own life everything people got close she would run. For the same reason she almost killed herself. If you've seen Good Will Hunting it's quite similar but instead of push, it's run. At the end we see that she's sorted her life out, has what looks like a nice stable job and brought up a fine young boy. It saddens me to see people hating on a character that so well illustrates the issues people who have been abused have deal with.

Of all her mistakes I think you take away too many points on her not responding to his many letters.
I dont think she was ever home to receive them and were returned to sender because they really didnt reach her, not that she was actively ignoring them.
Jenny loved Forrest but, she knew she wasn’t good enough. When she started to feel secure, she would run.

34:15 no she couldn't communicate with Forrest, he had been running for all that time over 3 years , there was no way for her to know where he was during that time. Most people never piece that part together and think she just hid from him that he had a child. There are so many little details like how Jenny's only coping mechanism was to run, she tells Forrest he doesn't know what love is but she was the one who didn't know because she had never received it , Jenny's life is a tragic story of PTSD and how there was no help back in the 70's and early 80's. She finally found some meaning and self worth to a point when she had little Forrest and saw and felt real love for the 1st time. So many vilify her when she really was a victim who didn't know how to move past it.
Also it would've taken a lot of time and help to get herself straightened out. Probably getting pregnant was her wake-up call. She'd have had to get clean, get a job, take care of a child, STAY clean, just a lot of things. Who knows how long it took her to do all that?
@@Chanteuse66 I think when she left after they slept together, she had already made the decision to get better. She was very calm, not panicking or anything and when the cab driver asked her where she was running off to, she answered "I'm not running." She was leaving, because she still thought Forrest was too good for her, but instead of going back to her old life, she decided to make herself worthy of his love, because with all her package she could really screw him up and she didn't want to. So, I'm guessing the baby just came as a lucky coincidence, since she had already started to straighten herself out. But still, it would be a long time to work through such a trauma and I doubt she had a therapist or something! lol

The writer: this is one of the few movies that is far FAR superior to the book.
The book was ridiculous. It was smart to make this more of a drama with a few comedy elements.
Running is a huge theme in this movie. Forrest always ran for Life and Jenny always ran from it. A lot of people get mad at Jenny for that, but her life was a tragic one. The abuse she suffered as a child made her see herself as worthless and meaningless. It wasn't until she had little Forrest that she began to see worth in herself, but by that time it was too late.
I watched this movie about 50 times and everytime I see a reaction, I always cry like a baby at a lot of parts. This movie always tugs at the heart strings. It's a classic.

Everytime i have bad day, or weak or even a month, i watched this movie. Its make me smile everytime! Its pure comedy, its pure drama, there is romance, there is action, there is everything. And last scene? OMFG. Its so lovely.
I mean, people can "hate" Jenny or think she's not good enough for him, but being together with her was all he ever wanted in his whole life. And when she finally came to and married him must have been the happiest days of his life, even if it was only for a short time. And she gave him his son.
To me, Jenny is one of the most tragic characters ever.
And, please don't be ashamed to cry, it just shows you're an emotional and empathetic person, which is very sympathetic 🙂

I've had a really shitty day. And I decided to review this movie with you Biss. And I was captured by the good magic of this film, I no longer thought about my problems, I plunged into the life of this amazing man, Forrest Gump. In contact with you, thank you❤
I've seen this with other reactors also. You really can't hold a grudge against Jenny through the entire movie, and then expect to experience the complete emotion of the movie, in total, the way the writer & director intended.
Oh my god. I’ve seen this movie many times but cried from watching your reaction to this movie-
Such an amazing movie. I'm sorry to go there, but I do think you misunderstood Jenny a little bit, yes she is crazy, and yeah she did some horrible choices, but sometimes it's hard to make the right choice when wrong is all you have ever known, beginning with her father, and she knew that, which is why she stayed away from Forrest, she knew she would give his life for her and she did not want to drag him down that hole, but underneath all her bad choices there was a good heart and Forrest could see that, he always surrounded himself with people with a good heart, it's a little hard to be a Forrest to a Jenny, someone who has a pure heart but keeps making the wrong choices, hardly ever even apologizing for it, keeps pushing you away, but all she really needs is love, and as much as Forrest wants to give that to her, it won't be possible until she deals with her demons on her own and accept that she can be loved too. Which is what happens by the end of the movie
I cry every time I watch this movie, and even when you were doing the reaction video.
I’ve been dealing with the loss of my gramps a year ago and now my gram is getting significantly worse. I often think of Forrest’s mama talking matter of factly about dying bc it’s her time, and it doesn’t make the hurt smaller, but it helps remind me to spend time and be present with those I love now while I can
"Jesus Lord. Are we killing all the presidents, what the hell?!" gave me a chuckle lol.
So many people who encountered Forrest had tragedies in their lives, makes me wonder if he's cursed.😄 Maybe he's like Domino from the X-Men and unintentionally takes all their luck for himself.
Definitely one of the all time great movies. Don't know why you'd try not to cry. It's all part of taking in experiences fully.

The joke running through the movie was he was at the center of every major event in that period of US history.
Meanwhile, he was always saved by good luck, Jenny kept getting hit with bad luck.

Hello, this is one of the Greatest Movie, very emotional from the Beginning to the End. The Storyline and Music is amazing. Beautiful Reaction Miss Biss, thank you for this Reaction.
Hey Rainer, I agree with you! Forrest Gump is 1 of those movies that never gets old for me! Whenever I watch it, I just find that it is SO engaging and well-acted that it feels like it is a quick watch even though the movie is almost 2 1/2 hours long. I also think it has moments that most people can relate to on an emotional level. For me Personally, I often connect with this movie because my brother actually has Autism (So Forrest and my brother can relate a bit since they are both disabled).
I also just wanted to mention that I actually posted a video on my TH-cam channel that was almost like a tribute video to Forrest Gump (though I called it a Mashup). You see, there's a band named Family Of The Year, and they used their hit song "Hero" for Richard Linklater's 2014 movie called Boyhood. For my video, I used "Hero" as background music while showing various scenes from Forrest Gump. Aside from matching song lyrics with movie scenes, my intention with the video was to try and create something unique.

I've seen this movie so many times. 30-40 times, who knows. I used to watch my neighbors kid semi-often around the time this movie released on VHS and it's all that kid would watch. Over and over. All these years and memes later I can still admit it's a pretty good movie. There's nothing like it. That I know of.
Another good (but sad) multi-award winning Tom Hanks movie (lots of memes too) is Cast Away.
Zemeckis movies are always good. He has a style but still his films are individualistic.

All these new bands you got to listen to, including CCR. You met Jenny and Tom Hanks. What a day. Okay, seriously, there's so many good Tom Hanks movies out there. The Da Vinci Code, Cast Away, The Terminal, Toy Story, The Green Mile and Saving Private Ryan though that last one may not be up your alley. Not sure. And that's a very small sampling of what he's done.

For me, it's the moment after he discovers he's a dad and asks "Is he smart?"..just 😭😭 every time.
(And so many reactors hate on Jenny, even the movie seems to have this little vein of casual misogyny running through it. She's suffered abuse and trauma so obvs going to make choices that hurt her but in the end she makes positive ones and raises a son - very little empathy or benefit of the doubt is shown to her until she marries Forrest..just bugs me).

Great film. I understand being angry with Jenny. But, as much pain as she caused Forrest, I don’t think she was malicious. Hurt people hurt people. Being damaged by her father from such a young age, she hated herself and had a death wish, a theme throughout the movie. She just felt unworthy of the love of a kind and pure soul like Forrest. Great reaction. You should react to “The Green Mile”, if you haven’t already seen it. I’m sure a lot of people have recommended it.

this is one case where the movie is better than the book. in the book forrest was a big strapping. blonde lil abner type. big on braun. not much on brains. among his adventures he was an astronut with a chimp named "sue." a movie producer runs into forrest and casts him in a tarzan movie co-starring raquel welch. and he was reunited with sue on the set of the movie. sue and forrest wreaked havoc on the set eventually tearing welch's clothes off and she runs naked down the street.
the movie's much better than the book. but i must admit i wouldn't object to a raquel welch nude scene. thanks for the video.

She wasn't "running" like before...She was going off to make herself worthy and discover what it is to love. The child certainly helped. You understood the veterans' trauma, but you missed completely the different but comparable trauma she faced as a result of her childhood.

My Mom looked exactly like Sally Field in this, it freaked us out. We thought she had a secret movie career as kids. I also love that Lt. Dan's "Magic legs" were made from the same as the Space Shuttle. The next year Forrest and Lt. Dan were in Apollo 13 together.
Also, Lt. Dan told Forrest that if he ever became a shrimp boat captain then he’d be an astronaut, so by walking on legs made of titanium alloy he had something in common with space shuttle astronauts.

Surprisingly your opinion isnt THAT unpopular, about every single reactor ive seen reacting to this pretty much hates Jenny.
My and many others opinion is very different though. She was (sexually) abused in her childhood which fucked up her mental health. Major childhood trauma affects people, often not in a good way. Like you said, she cares deeply for Forrest but is afraid she would be a bad influence (propably rightfully so). She doesnt think she is good enough for him. Her childhood propably makes her believe she somehow deserves the abuse she experiences by her 'boyfriends'. Substance abuse and suicidal thoughts are the cherry on top...she is just lost throughout the movie.
Also, she didnt get the letters, so not her fault that they got returned.
Think about it, she couldve gone after Forrest, he was extremely wealthy, but she didnt.
Not telling him about his son wasnt a great move though, i agree, but i think she wanted to proove to herself that she could do it by herself. Change her life for the better (which she did - really imptessive in her kinda situation in my opinion).
Thats just some thoughts i have - excuse my rambling.

He was running for over 3 years of that. Kid was probably 3-4 years old. She used that time to get her life together. Unfortunately it was too late as she had contracted hep c. Or aids.

There's are the only kind of good movies, sweetheart. The back of cereal boxes in the 90s were more detailed and well thought out than modern films.
Loved the reaction Bisscute. This is one of the greatest films of all time and Tom Hanks was phenomenal.
What really hits me is the end, when Forrests realizes that he is a father. When he asks, tearing up: "Is he smart, or is he..." - because he knows that he is simple. He is not stupid, but his IQ is below average, yet it's high enough that he can understand the situation. He was worrying that his kid is "slow", like him.
But his kid was smart. The second best moment is when we see him saying goodbye to his son in the morning at the bus stop. I have a feeling that he will literally sit there ALL DAY, waiting for the little boy to come home.
And the message of the movie... everyone had such a complicated life, full of pain and challenges... and for a lot of them, Forrest was a beacon of hope, because, as "simple" as he is, he saw the world simply. He loved Jenny, no matter what. He was standing up for bullies, no matter what. And he was ALWAYS there to help anyone who needed help.
I think this movie also tries to tell this to us. Be kind and help others. Life is difficult, but often only beacuse we make it difficult for ourselves... (sadly this isn't true in many cases but I love this saying, even tho I invented it xD)

I like that the person most grounded in this movie is not smart but a very kind person. In a lot of ways our culture values smartness over being kind and caring.

I love this movie. Jenny has had a very hard life. Forest never gave up on her. She realised it but very late and they had such a short time together.
Everyone always gets mad at Jenny for turning Forrest away, but what they don't understand is that, Jenny feels like she isn't worth the love and attention that Forrest is willing to give her. It's not that she doesn't love him. It's that she doesn't feel that she's worth being loved.

I felt about Jenny the same, when I watched the movie over 20 years ago.
But since then I have grown up, am earl 40 now and can say you or me would probably acted the same when we would be her. abused as a kid and thinks she isn´t worth anything and thinks about suicide and she saw how pure and kind he was and didn´t want to pull him down too... I love her in this movie now. Forrest had luck that his mome cared about him and was the opposite of jennys father. Shows how f*ed up life can be. but same as leutenant dan, it´s still worth it and you can find something beautiful. i love this movie :)

12:13 it was a fuel saving measure. DURING AND after WW2 there were actually Public Service Announcments encouraging hitchhiking and car pooling.
You noticed that Jenny knew she wasn't right for Forrest. Spending the night with him wasn't the best idea, and she knew that too, which is why she left the next day.
But I believe that her getting pregnant is what forced her character to get her life together, and maybe she didn't reach out to him sooner was because of guilt but she probably also thought she had plenty of time for that, until she got sick.
Marrying him was partly for selfish reasons, but it also gave little Forrest a dad, gave him a son and someone to love for the rest of his life after she was gone, which is something that he would never have had otherwise. And that's important because he would make an even better dad than a husband, and I think we all know how good he would have been at that.
I'm a big fan of Jenny, I think she did the best she could.
It's so great that there are people who, having lived half their lives, have never seen the most popular films in the world and are ready to share with us their sincere and genuine reaction to watching for the "first time".

I don't think she really gets that Jenny's father destroyed her sense of worthiness along with her ability to trust love, or even accept that she might be ACTUALLY loved. That is common though, in that circumstance. I've seen a few reactors hate on her, and that's fine, even proper. I just find Jenny to be a very sympathetic character.😭

This is one of the greatest movies just because of the theme of serendipity and accidental success. It's an analysis of the "American Dream."
i mean. i get why people feel unhappy feelings toward Jenny. Maybe it's cause reactors are usually watching this for the first time, while for me I've probably saw it.... 20 yrs ago 😂 so I've seen in more and had time to think about it, but at no point in the movie when I watch it now do I ever feel anger toward her or think she's bad for how she comes in and out of Forest's life. We were following Forest. He had SO MANY life experiences for which Jenny was no where to be found. and the same thing was happening to Jenny. she had a whole life outside of the perspective of her in-and-outs from Forest's life. But that's not what makes or breaks an all-time relationship. She KNOWS hims, she showed compassion and innate understanding of him and his heart from the very beginning. Forest EXPLAINS from the very beginning how he came from family money, so SORRY if his mental faculties make you forget he's more privileged than Jenny in every way. BY FATE. She got a dead mom, abusive father, and scattered support system while Forest's mom shows from the very beginning that she would move heaven and earth if she could to help Forest be the best he could be. So I would love to hear the perspective of ppl who think Jenny is some unfair leach after 20 years, some SA w/ a side of abuse cycling, fighting for everything, selling pictures of your body for money that is so scarce, and having your decisions for what you think is best blow up in your face time after time and you can't figure out how to trust what you think is right. Worst is that the same reasons ppl love Forest seems to be the grounds on which they never look at Jenny. So, I guess inspiration or not, no lesson of compassion was actually learned here today.
This isn't a rant aimed specifically at you, it turned into a diary entry about all the regular things I hate about ppl feeling a sense of superiority that allows them to say who and who doesn't deserve sympathy. I think the answer is everyone, but I know that is an unpopular stance.
I think it is a unique film of its kind. Emotional, funny, dramatic, with many historical and social references. Definitely a cult.
