As an ex-munition specialist for the army it will be interesting to see. Pyrotechnic hazard class and full on explosive hazard class are different. Basically they cannot be stored togeather. Pyro like smoke and flares can be stored by themselves or with small arms ammunition. Pyro as mintioned above has a G hazard class and small arms has an S hazard class. Explosives like comp B, C4, or ammunition with actual explosives inside like 120 tank rounds or 10 lb he 2.75 folding fin rockets have hazard class of either D or E. Their are hazards charts out in public view that display this information. Just going off this video I would say IWA is correct pyro and Simms ammunition is not in the same hazard class federally. They can not be shipped or stored togeather. I'm guess the AFT, just wants to halt citizens from training.

This is VERY similar to 2015 when the ATF banned 40mm IR Parachute Flare rounds, and even attempted to ban practice Chalk rounds, saying they were both "Explosives", and therefore each round required Destructive Device registration. This was because the NFA states devices containing more than 1/4 oz of an "explosive or incendiary charge" is a destructive device. At the time nobody fought back because the world of DD owners was relatively small. I think this will come down to a legal battle of definitions, whether these items are pyrotechnics (which require an FEL [Federal Explosives License] to make/sell, but not privately own), or explosives (which requires an FEL if you sell/transport them, but not own), or destructive devices (which would require a Form 4 transfer AND a FEL to privately own, per the "explosive or incendiary charge" definition). I work in this space so I'm relatively familiar with these laws. Setting up explosive storage magazines can be expensive, needs to be placed specific far distances from certain structures/byways, and is subject to IOI approval inspections, and re-inspections- not feasible for non-businesses. This is yet again just another attempted overreach, by an irrelevant anachronistic agency, that has been politicized for an agenda, not the pursuit of real justice. The 2A is becoming normalized and that scares the hell out of them.

I heard about those chalk rounds the ATF went after, they should never have been allowed to get away with that in the first place, I will bet you it terrified them that they would eventually be popular products. If you think about it, it bothers them that they don't know if people will turn them into explody things, it must bother them so much to think about. People could actually 3d scan and print those things too if they take that ATF rule down.

Good point on the 40mm IR and chalk rounds. I’ve heard about the 1/4oz of explosives, but I’ve also heard that the chalk rounds specifically had something to do with the powder. If I’m not mistaken, power falls under FEL requirements except for when used in the “sporting purposes” manner. With 40mm not being a sporting use exception, ATF said the rounds themselves were DD because of that power use exception, making it subject to FEL and DD requirements.
No idea if that is also true, just something I’ve read about. Trying to find information on what substances and their uses fall into FEL territory has been a wild goose hunt for me.

“These can potentially be used against law enforcement”
Yes. So can many other things. That’s kind of why we own them. Interested to see how IWA international will respond to this. Currently kicking myself for not stocking up a year ago when I told myself I should

A few years after 911, the ATF went after the amateur high powered rocketry community for their rocket motors and igniters. It took that community several years and $$ defeat them in court. But in order to fly, you had to obtain an explosives permit which meant a $200 fee, an extensive background check that included interviews with the ATF and an explosive storage magazine to keep the motors with annual magazine inspections. You were also required to keep an official inventory log of every motor you bought, sold or used at a sanctioned event. In most cases you were denied because the local fire department would not allow(for obvious reasons)an explosives magazine in residential areas where most of us live. When the community finally got their day in court, the ATF quickly lost because they couldn't prove the motors could actually explode.(Which they can't) The photography and airsoft communities might want to look at this case if they want to organize against this latest ATF transgression. There might be some precedent to be utilized.

So you can purchase Shotgun Primers and Percussion caps but these ignition sources are now forbidden. I think the goal is to attack individual components that can be used to self manufacture ammunition and or devices. Remember they are trying very hard to push for background checks and registration of ammunition.

It seems like they want control of chemicals for entire industries, this is not ok. They must know about the premium waterproof hobby fuses people use in model rocketry and fireworks, they must not like it.
It looks like we have found another item we can add to our watchlist collectibles list of items to own.

I'd love to see how this plays in the courts. The BATFE saying these are now "explosives" (as defined "able or likely to shatter violently or burst apart,"), I'd be looking forward to the court video the BAFTE brings showing one of these blowing apart rather than just smoking...
Under their new definition, the BATFE would be able to regulate BBQ Charcol, wood chips, 2-cycle engines, etc...

So they pretty much just lurch from one thing to another regardless of whether or not the thing they are "banning" is actually even a problem. What it really comes down to is they want to the limit the individual American as much as possible. If one thing doesn't work, like the braces, they just move on to the next thing. If these airsoft grenades were an actual problem, they wouldn't have been legal for the past, I don't know, forever?

Law enforcement is allowed to legally lie to people to install these policies, we should not forget that.
If a person can legally lie, then they can attempt to change the laws to their liking in the name of control, we must not forget that and we should always try to remember these facts.

I can see how flash-bangs can be classified as a low-yield explosive because a lot of them are also concussion grenades... but there is no way in hell you could consider 99.9% of smoke grenades as explosives. Are they going to claim matches and road flares are explosives next? ffs.
