There's an option to rest finger on home button to unlock on settings though, so you don't have to press anymore. The home button has limited presses, sucks for it to get stuck down

Wow mate, you need to reset your phone. I have the 16GB space grey 5S on 11.4 and it works great.
How can I reset my iPhone in order to delete all the data and everything that slows it down but keep the photos?
you could reset settings but keep data, that resets all the setting back to the way it was when it was new but keeps your apps and data

J Walker true, had an s7 edge for 2 years and the last year the battery started draining like hell. Not even 8 hours and the battery was already at 20% or less. Very annoying. I own an iPhone 8 plus and that one works very good, I’ll see how it changes after a few years. Still, android is great!

I think it's a RAM issue, the new OSs just were made for iPhones with more RAM in general and so are much faster in loading animations. Also gives gives more headroom for apps to run in

When my 5C got phased out of support in August 2017 I almost went for a 5S, but I opted for an SE instead. A 6S in a 5S body was just too good of a value proposition for me to pass up with Walmart's $160 price tag, but I'm very grateful for the 5S anyways for it being such a legendary phone that Apple went out of their way to revive its design for a later phone.

You didn’t take into account the optimization of firmware. Obviously newer firmware on the same phone will be slower. The iPhone 5s was made for ios7

Great video, thanks! However, you should also compare with pre-iOS7 versions. There should be a massive difference. I can’t remember iOS feeling so sluggish on my iPhone4 back then as it is today even with much better hardware. Same with macOS which got VERY slow since Yosemite.

Geekbench 3 results calculations are different then that of geekbench 4. A 2600 on GB3 is like a 2200 on GB4.
After using 3gs to 6s now m using OnePlus 6 and m very happy 😁

If you recently bought these iPhone 5S devices used from EBay, how do you control for true factory internals? In other words, how do you know the 5 devices have exactly the same hardware? If some devices are 100% Apple factory but others have 3rd party screens, touch pads or other components, performance might vary, invalidating the test. Also, depleted batteries will definitely affect performance. Did all of these devices have the same level of battery degradation?

Esta prueba no tiene mucho sentido, son sistemas operativos distintos, con animaciones distintas y en algunos casos con procesos en segundo plano distintos. Además, no parece haber una gran diferencia en el rendimiento del sistema, en las aplicaciones depende, pues también las actualizan y añaden más características.
Yo creo que no hay obsolescencia programada, de hecho que salga iOS 12 para iPhone 5s es una prueba más que válida 👌

??? Atleast Google doesn't force the updates on you like with iOS 7-9. My iPhone updated in the middle of the night watering down the UX, switched to Droid, much better experience, app support follows through on older phones so updating to the latest software doesn't mean much.

iPhone SE 2017 here: I've updated from ios 9 to 11, and the battery life has dramatically changed to worse. I mean extremely worse. My battery used to last 2 days, and now I have to recharge it every 5 hours with the same use. How can software update affect the battery life so much? This programmed obsolescence it's unbelievably obvious. Ridiculous

iOS 11.4 is definitely the best iOS 11 update by far. I can notice a remarkable increase in performance since getting 11.4 on my 6th gen iPod Touch.
Tests like these are not always reliable and they are not the most precise , but you exceeded all these parts and made a great comparison 👍🏻
I have a 6 Plus, isn’t too slow actually as much as you might think but it can slack sometimes, I just hope iOS 12 can speed up older device and make them more stable
You can't "benchmark" network-bound stuff like Safari, Siri or App Store like this. There's no telling which device got what portion of the bandwidth.

I’m going to say the 64-bit Architecture has given it extended life, by enabling handling of more threads and processes. The A7 is still strong. If an Android from late 2013 got and the current Android Update, it would be completely unstable.
Please make iOS 10 on iP7+ vs iOS 11 on iP8+ comparison. Apple always tell newer is always faster than the older one but kinda doubt it.

im curious to hear a developer or programmer defend this notion that newer software is okay to be slower than older versions. especially considering how many times I read the phrase "bug fixes and performance improvements" when truthfully it should read "will introduce new bugs and performance losses".
