  • Srettha Thavisin is set to be Thailand's next prime minister, after securing enough votes in parliament. He is the Pheu Thai party's nominee for the post. His victory possibly puts an end to months of political deadlock that has frustrated the constituency and harmed confidence in the country's economic recovery.

Pita got overwhelming support from Thai 🇹🇭 people but was denied a country leadership.
By contrast, unelected Chinese 🇨🇳 Xi Jinping changed constitution to be emperor for life.

Pheu Thai is the 2nd iteration of Thaksin's original That Rak Thai (TRT) party, he is its major funder and reason why his sister became Prime Minister and his daughter Paethongtarn is the second candidate for PM should Srettha fail. Further, a considerable number of opposition parties came from TRT as BJT party leader Anutin. And that includes the 2 parties of the Generals, Prayuth's UTN party who then resigned from it and the powerbroker Gen. Prawit's PPP party whereby a considerable number of MPs came from TRT and its follow up PPP party both then banned which resulted in current Pheu Thai party whose Secretariat and Yingluck received a 10 year bank (as did BJT leader Anutin from his TRT days) . One can say it is rather incestous, but shows you Thaksin's influence. The old establishment, Royalists, military all pulled down Thaksin and his parties, Most of the charges if not all that Thaksin was convicted of was arranged by the military putschists. They fear Thaksin as his populist policies has many of these old funder lose a lot of money iniated on-stop service, for utility bills, 30 baht health service, gave out 1 million baht to esch village primarily to activate the economy there. furthermore, he set up the OTOP program or One Tambon (village) One Product where the govt help standardize and marker these product. One course, his populist policies cost a lot of money but his govt. did repay the IMF debt back, only now back in debt again with the military running the govt. That is why many of the provincials, the poor and underprivileged adore Thaksin. However, Move forwaard introduced a lot of radical programs that gained the support of the people and why it won the most MP seats. Thaksin's Pheu Thai had 10 less MPs. NOw this new govt promised to change the Consititution which means it would last about 2 years and then new Elections. A Referendum is being set up and then the persons that will help draw up the new Constitution, Pheu Thai now needs to perform becsuse predictions have it that Move Forward Party will win a huge majority. It only contested 400 constituencies not 500 and came in second in many of them. It is truly a new generation of MPs, the average age being 42 and in the 33 Bangkok seats they won all except one and the candidates average age was 36. MFO is high tech oriented, its leader Pita is a Harvard Graduate and he inherited his father AgroFood conglomerate. BUT MFP came into being when its forefather party, the Future Forward party and its leader Thanathorn came in 2nd place, with Pheu Thai coming first in the election 4 years ago but gave billionaire Thanathorn the chance to become prime minister is first 4 years ago, But he powers that be had him found guilty of trumped up charges which led him and the parrty secretariat being banned for 10 years. but when his case went into the Criminal Court, he was found innocent . You see the military machinations. It is at that time that Pita Limjaroenrat took over with the rest of its MPs into Move Forward party that was already registered at the time. AND it won this year's election. IF not for the military handpicked Senate, Pita would have become Prime Minister with Pheu Thai joining up but most of the 250 Senators voted against him because of his plan to reform the Lese Majeste law. That killed his chance. The irony of the Senate is that its term ends May 11, 2024 after which NO MORE Senate. So if the original coalition could delay the process until that time then Pita is PM. SO NOW Pheu Thai needs toi go off its populist policy and set up a new platform and then REBRAND itself. Only then will it have the chance to compete against Move Forward party, and its policies came from Thanathorn, the brainchild who is set to return to politics in less than 2 years when his ban ends

Thaksin's Hellfire Party (Phua Thai) is just capitalists who can't see the people's voice in the eyes and continue to join together with the evil Chakri dynasty who continue to eat the people's taxes.

It sucks to think about this because most, if not all of the older Thai people (70-90 y/o) I’ve spoken to really liked Pita and wanted to see him bring about change in their lifetime

The PPT is the "realistic" democracy - I admire how they find the solution to conquer unfair election rules. PPT brings hope for the Thai people to recover from a lost decade under the Prayuth regime.

There was a deal between the Pheu party and the senators. Thaksin to come home for jail terms in exchange for the support of senators to Pheu party nominated Prime Minister candidate, Sretha thavisin.

It is the best solution now when the military still has the power to prevent the majority elected party taking office for at least, the power taken away from the military and that the country can go on.

Thailand is a vast land with great differences in Gini index. Thailand needs forward thinking businessman leadership to turn economic woes into opportunities. Military n Generals are usually the logical and not critical thinking persons.
