Believe it or not I saw Jaws 2 before I saw the original and it’s what made me fall in love with the franchise. Super happy to add this one to the collection!
Seeing Jaws 2 in the theater is one of my favorite childhood memories. I love Jaws 2 but it’s kinda like Halloween 2, a good sequel to a untouchable masterpiece.
0:15 I saw Jaws 2 in the theater when I was little. When entering into the the actual theater there was a cardboard cutout of Bruce 2 that you walked through. And, of course, I reached out and touched one of the teeth. It was packed and buzzed with excitement.. As soon as you saw the image of the top of the divers in the first scene, a black guy grabbed his significant other, and yelled "there it is". She screamed bloody murder. Every time Bruce charged at someone, the closer he got (with the soundtrack jumping) everybody would pick up their legs lol. It was the first movie I was a part of where everyone applauded at the end. On a side note, Jaws 4k, like The Shining, has Dolby Vision and HDR10+. So when I had a Samsung, which they only have HDR10+, I still got the great visual. However, I also have a LG C2 OLED, and I haven't watched Jaws 4k on it yet. Getting Jaws 2 4k Steelbook in the mail today 😅
Jaws 2? Oh, I bought the steelbook because it's part of the franchise. But, to be honest, this movie was the first time I cheered for the shark. Shark eats helicopter? "Get 'em, Bruce!" LOL.
There were so many missed audio opportunities for a Dolby Atmos or even a 5.1 remix: The John Williams score, water lapping all around the sailboats, underwater bubbles...
Jaws 2 was considered a horror film and horror films were considered lowbrow entertainment, not worthy of Dolby Stereo. There were exceptions, of course, like Philip Kaufman's Invasion of the Body Snatchers.
Out of all 4 JAWS movies my favorite ones are JAWS and JAWS 2. If they ever release JAWS 3 in 4K I hope they can somehow clean it up. JAWS 3 was filmed for 3-D so it has some inconsistent images will see if they can work some miracles.
My copy of Jaws 2 arrived on July 4th! I love it! The only thing that bugs me is the 45th anniversary sticker is in French because I live in Canada and sometimes that kind of thing happens when ordering from Amazon even though I don't live in Quebec.
''JAWS PART 2'' is great. The 4-K is spectacular. Colors is deeper, picture is crisp and certain scenes are shown LIVE as if you''re in a concert. 3 and a half stars.

Hey Ken, this was the very first sequel I ever saw of any movie. I was lucky I saw Jaws in the theater when I was eight and then I saw this three or four years later in the theater as well. what you never noticed Arnie from Christine was in this and I guess you didn’t notice that Napoleon dynamite was also in this as well😂 I didn’t think this looked as good as it could’ve either I thought the beginning night scenes were dim, and some scenes were soft. Maybe Dolby Vision could’ve helped but some scenes especially the outdoor scenes looked fantastic and a lot of the underwater stuff as well overall if jaws is a 10. Then this is an 8 1/2 really enjoyed watching this. I have a great one.
Love Jaws 2. It was the first Jaws film I saw in the theater as a kid. I lived only a few blocks from Universal Studios and loved the Jaws attack on the tram tour. I also had the t-shirt with the iron on artwork of the movie poster. Great late 70's memories all around.
JAWS is one of the greatest films ever produced. JAWS 2 is a good one, worth a buy next to the original. My only complaint is that Universal could have done a better effort regarding the soundtrack the same way they did in the original.
A good solid sequel, Ken! Got the steelbook that came out previously on this for the Blu-ray, but will definitely pick this 4K up. The Chief does get in touch with Richard Dreyfuss' character via phone call, etc., and lets the audience know he was in it in some way. Keith Gordon's first movie here, Ken. He's also in Dressed To Kill (1980) and Christine (1984).
Even though they didn’t get Spielberg back, using the same cinematographer and John Williams, as well as many of the actors from the original elevated this movie. It has the same atmosphere and it’s a very entertaining watch. I think of it just like I do Halloween 2. It’s not as good as the first but the mood and look make them enjoyable to watch.
Jaws 2 was my introduction to this franchise. My parents took me to the drive-in, I was 7 and had been dreaming about seeing a Jaws movie since having seen the TV adds for Jaws at 4. Now, I have a deep rooted and lifelong fascination for the OG film and sharks. Love your show Ken. 👍
What I enjoy about Jaws 2, is the return of Roy Scheider as Chief Brody. He gave Jaws 2, class. It was also awesome seeing Lorraine Gary and Murray Hamilton. Some of the shark scenes were cheesy, and I wish they would of done the Indianapolis prequel, but Jaws 2 is entertaining.
I have never seen Jaws 2 so this might be a pickup for me. I saw the original for the first time in full just a year or so ago when it came back in theaters and loved it
I had been looking around to find out about the sound, it seems it was originally recorded in mono. Maybe there could have been a remaster to get that 5.1 or better audio, but it maybe just getting what was originally there. Mind you I never saw it in the theater, but we Didn't see Jaws either. It's worth investigating.
Jaws was originally mono too. Universal went all out doing a 5.1, then a 7.1 and now a Dolby Atmos remix. They cheaped out on Jaws 2. Guess, the law of diminishing returns, Jaws 2 didn't make as much money as Jaws, so it didn't merit the expense of a remix.

The original is so good because we had Shaw and Dreyfuss in the fight. Different types of men all working to conquer this beast.. The sequel tries to focus on the teens and their summer experience but with so many of them it becomes kinda generic. Overall it keeps the flame alive but obviously not as strong as the OG. Some really beautiful photography throughout and I'm glad to add it to the collection
I’m wondering if because of all the negative talk about the film and the sequels in general, plus the fact that Jaws made $476.5mil world wide and Jaws 2 only made $187mil world wide on almost triple the budget, maybe they felt like Universal shouldn’t spend as much on the restoration. Also like you mentioned about the price point, Universal probably figured they’d need to sell it for cheaper to move as many copies as Jaws probably did
Just finished watching the 4k and I was quite disappointed. The HDR is good in some shots, and then the next shot will look dark and sometimes (around 1h38m) look like damaged film stock. The audio was poor as well, with some hissing and clipping issues. Pretty bummed after looking forward to this release for months. Jaws 4k is still stellar though, I'll stick to that and Jaws:The Revenge which has a decent bluray itself.
Jaws 1 I learned from many different Documentarys etc was filmed mostly I think on overcast type days. And Speilberg believes its the best times to film.
Universal is so cheap! They would likely have had to pay each person that was interviewed by The Daily Jaws which they wouldn’t do. The special features ported over from other formats are great but for the 45th anniversary, more is warranted 🦈
Great sequel imo. Seen 2 as a child before the original. Jaws 1975 is my favorite movie of all time. 2 is a great shark movie on it's own. As a sequel it's up there with the best in cinema as far as sequels go imo. Best shark movie since. The Shallows was pretty damn good out of the new movies.
Roy is great here. Part of reason his alienation feels so real is because he was. He was extremely unhappy while making this movie... luckily the movie seems to benefit from it. This is a good sequel. but it kind of drags in parts because Brody doesnt have anyone to reall6 play off of. I love the paranoia angle, but Roy needed another character and performer that was on his level. Most of the other characters are too underdeveloped. Nobody else is written to stand out. Jaws is king, Jaws 2 is good... but Piranha is the better fish movie of 1978.
Couldn't find it in any stores, had tags for it! But not a single copy! Ended up ordering it from Amazon. Which they're telling me it's gonna take two weeks to get it out to me.
Of course the original is a classic, but I always defend part 2 as an awesome and worthy sequel. 3 & 4 are just guilty pleasures. We have Sea World passes so I always enjoy giving the poor man’s Jaws 3 tour when there. Lol
The first Jaws on 4K is probably my favorite 4K transfer. And I agree; Jaws 2 isn't bad at all, it's just not anywhere near as good as the original. Jaws 3D is a cheesy monster flick. But Jaws the Revenge is just terrible.

It is a shame that, after all these years, they STILL haven’t made a surround soundtrack. This was the perfect opportunity! I thought they would have for the Blu-ray but, no. They will if it comes to 4k I thought to myself. I wouldn’t mind, they’ve made so much more effort with far inferior films! Disappointed.
I bought the steelbook finally (they put it out 2 days later). *WARNING:* the Blu-ray inside is the 2016 edition, not a 2K downscale of the new 4K transfer.
Might have to wait till the 50th anniversary to maybe get the better sound because they are gonna resell this again in the future. Isn't 8k coming soon too?
I've always thought that Jaws 2 was a solid movie while it's not as good as the original it still gives you some satisfying scenes the scene with the shark sinking the helicopter is one of the best in the movie I'm not sure which version to buy I'm not a 4K person and I own the old Blu-ray but I love Steelbooks I do prefer the original artwork over the one they went with for the Steelbook but it is cool Amazon has a pricey version with the original poster and art cards but it's ninety three dollars
If Jaws was a solid 3 1/2 out of 4-star movie for me, Jaws 2 was a 2-star yawner. And then Jaws 3 and Jaws the Revenge happened and they gained #2 a half to a whole star. I still watch this movie wishing the shark eats all the annoying teenagers but it also gave me "Sh-sh-shaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrkkkkksob,sob,sob", which still cracks me up to this day. Jaws 2 was a straight horror movie complete with Phantom of the Sea-scarred killer while the original felt more like a modern-day thriller.
I saw it in theaters. The VHS was meh, the dvd was pretty good, not great. I'm waiting for my copy of 4K. FWIW: JAWS 4K was the best looking and sounding version I have ever seen. Better than theatrical prints.
Jaws is the better film, but John Williams’s score is just as good or slightly better. I think he had a larger orchestra and it’s arguably more complex.
1:59 This is the same tune out of Xbots when a game comes out exclusively on the PlayStation they shit on it but when it gets announced for Xbox they cheer and laugh at PlayStation on losing an exclusive. Death Stranding, Hellblade and Persona 5 come to mind.
Despite how great the original Jaws 4K is, it is not the best way to watch it. If your city ever gets the 3D version that they released last year run to get tickets. Easily the best 3D I’ve ever seen. Jaws looks like it was made for 3D. The technology is also great. You know how after a while the 3D just flattens out? That never happens in Jaws 3D.

Jaws is the first 4k I ever bought and 'hooked' me on the format.
I always really liked this movie. The fact it has Chief Brody back elevates it to a decent story.
Jaws 2 is a lot like Rocky 2. A worthy sequel, fun and easy to watch.
Halloween 2 I would say as well.. to follow up Jaws, Rocky and Halloween is a herculean task. These were all enjoyable sequels!

I'm surprised the film wasn't Stereo in the first place, it was the norm by 1977/78 for big films like that to be in Dolby Stereo.

I feel like Jaws 2 is very underrated. Yeah it's not good as the first movie because that movie is a classic but Jaws 2 is a good follow up sequel

The soundtrack is by John Williams, so no, they couldn't have done better. Unless you're talking about the sound mix.
A lot of the difference in how the lighting looks likely comes from the difference in shooting locations since a good deal of 2 was shot in Florida.

A local theater here in Arizona is showing Jaws 3D in 3D next week.

I bought the steelbook finally (they put it out 2 days later). *WARNING:* the Blu-ray inside is the 2016 edition, not a 2K downscale of the new 4K transfer.

Might have to wait till the 50th anniversary to maybe get the better sound because they are gonna resell this again in the future. Isn't 8k coming soon too?

I've always thought that Jaws 2 was a solid movie while it's not as good as the original it still gives you some satisfying scenes the scene with the shark sinking the helicopter is one of the best in the movie I'm not sure which version to buy I'm not a 4K person and I own the old Blu-ray but I love Steelbooks I do prefer the original artwork over the one they went with for the Steelbook but it is cool Amazon has a pricey version with the original poster and art cards but it's ninety three dollars

A good sequel but we really should have had John Hancock's darker more intense horror movie instead of a more summery adventure.
That did sound like an interesting take listening to his interview.
Both Jaws and Jaws 2 are supposed to be summer horror films involving sharks.
If Jaws was a solid 3 1/2 out of 4-star movie for me, Jaws 2 was a 2-star yawner. And then Jaws 3 and Jaws the Revenge happened and they gained #2 a half to a whole star. I still watch this movie wishing the shark eats all the annoying teenagers but it also gave me "Sh-sh-shaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrkkkkksob,sob,sob", which still cracks me up to this day. Jaws 2 was a straight horror movie complete with Phantom of the Sea-scarred killer while the original felt more like a modern-day thriller.

Blasphemy!!!😂 Though it is a really good sequel. The best out the three sequels. It's like the Aliens of the Jaws franchise.
I saw it in theaters. The VHS was meh, the dvd was pretty good, not great. I'm waiting for my copy of 4K. FWIW: JAWS 4K was the best looking and sounding version I have ever seen. Better than theatrical prints.
Jaws is the better film, but John Williams’s score is just as good or slightly better. I think he had a larger orchestra and it’s arguably more complex.
I agree. Williams' score for Jaws 2 is definitely bigger, more complex and has a wonderful youthful energy for the teenagers in their catamarans.
Plus the harp work for the underwater scenes like Ballet for Divers is so beautiful!
1:59 This is the same tune out of Xbots when a game comes out exclusively on the PlayStation they shit on it but when it gets announced for Xbox they cheer and laugh at PlayStation on losing an exclusive. Death Stranding, Hellblade and Persona 5 come to mind.

Despite how great the original Jaws 4K is, it is not the best way to watch it. If your city ever gets the 3D version that they released last year run to get tickets. Easily the best 3D I’ve ever seen. Jaws looks like it was made for 3D. The technology is also great. You know how after a while the 3D just flattens out? That never happens in Jaws 3D.
Look Jaws 1 is the best but 2 is really good fun but I love Jaws 3. Revenge I’m not so crazy about but will watch it upon occasion.
